We are going to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or
RCMP, Depot.
The Depot is the place where all the new cadets come to get the basic
RCMP training. Regardless where they are from in Canada, the
cadets all come here at the Depot for the basic training.
Here, we are at the entrance of the RCMP museum.
Got to have a photo with the RCMP moose.
Because we were members of the military, we have a discount of $5 off
each tickets.
The museum also have a special section for Halloween.
Some of the weapons found in jails.
So much material relating the rich history of the RCMP. Very
interesting.
I only included this photo because of the horses walking on main street
in Dawson City
during the gold rush. Look how deep the mud was!
Pretty cop!
"
We will protect you!"
What a cadet's room looks like.
After the museum, we are heading to the parade square.
But first I have to explain the street signs. They all have the
name of an RCMP who died while on duty.
If you look at the top one, the number 6352 represent the serial number
of the RCMP. This number also tells us he was the 6,352 member to
join the RCMP. Next you have his rank and name. In the
middle you have if it is a road, a street or an avenue followed by his
last name. At the bottom you have his birth place and the year he
died while on duty.
The Depot chapel, it is the oldest building in Regina. Built in
1883 as a mess hall, it was converted in a canteen and a reading room
in 1889. It was partially destroyed by fire in March 1895.
Rebuilt in the same year, it became the chapel in December 1895.
The steeple entry was added in 1939.
The chapel is now on Canada's Historic Places registry. This
means nothing can be altered in or outside of the chapel.
On each side of the altar is a stained glass memorial window, each
portrays a member of the force. On the left is a constable in
mourning;
on the right is a trumpeter sounding reveille.
We came to the Depot for the
Sergeant
Major's Parade.
What is that?
Having done parades during our career, we found the drill to be
somewhat different from ours.
Here is why.
The parade is about to start.
It was good, the Sergeant Major's Parade take place three times a week,
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is open to the public.
We really enjoyed our visit at the RCMP Depot.
If you are in the Regina area, it is worth the stop.
Sunday October 20, 2013
Thursday, Friday and Saturday were cold, we did not do much outside.
Saturday, we were supposed to visit a place for us to stay because it
is getting cold in the motorhome and the campground is about to
shut-off the water for the winter. The people phoned us and
something came up and we could not do the visit Saturday, but they
could Sunday evening.
So here we are Sunday morning and I decide to convert one of our neon
light to LED lights.
Here is the one I will modify.
The fixture with all the hardware removed.
I installed 3 strips of LED light in the fixture. Connect all the
wires and re-install the light.
Just before I turned them on.
Hey, it works!
With the light cover.
Tonight we will see how good/bad it will light the area.
We leave Regina just before supper and head to the village of
Marquis. It is north-west of Moose Jaw. We will be visiting
the
house where we may rent a room for 2 weeks.
Nice sunset as we drive west.
So many birds in the fields.
We have supper at the good old MacDonald.
We did not take any photos of the place we visited. We meet Jim
and Bonnie and toured the home. We are happy with what we
saw. We will be moving here tomorrow. As a bonus, we can
put the motorhome by the garage.
Monday October 21, 2013
Michèle watched TV until about 2 am and here is the temperature
inside and outside. No snow so far!
I am up by eight and here is what I see!!!
Getting motivated for our departure. Coffee, checked my
email, dressed for winter...
Let's go!
Once everything is put away outside, I have to move the car out of the
way to drive the motorhome out on the road.
The snow keeps coming. I refuse to buy a snow brush!
Hooking up the car to the motorhome.
Michèle is getting ready to check all the lights inside. I am
checking
everything outside, here I am looking in the car to make sure all is
right. Michèle is spying on me with the back camera...
11:10 am and we are ready to hit the road. Temperature -0.8
C. Even the little man in the thermometer is dressed for cold
weather!
Driving out of the campground.
Driving to Regina and the circle route.
We saw two accidents on our way to Marquis. This one involving
two
cars and another accident involving a transport truck in a ditch.
We are following the trucks and they are only driving 80 km/h.
They are
not going fast for a reason. Some spot on the highway have ice
patches.
Shortly before Moose Jaw the snow and rain stopped. Great!
Short stop to fill the propane tank.
After the propane fill, we pull a little further to have lunch.
Surprise!
Water is coming out of the fridge area. I notice
the water pump is going non-stop, I shut the pump, no more water.
I am looking under the fridge.
It turns out the leak comes from a solenoid for the ice maker, it is
located behind the fridge, outside. It
cracked because it froze. I guess no more Ice Maker for us...
Marquis, here we come. This will be our home for the next two
weeks.
Once settle in Jim and Bonnie's house, I winterized the plumbing of the
motorhome.
This way, nothing else should freeze and break.
No, I did not use the windshield washer fluid (blue), I used the proper
plumbing antifreeze (pink).
We are "starting our life" in a house today.
Wednesday October 23, 2013
"Our" new home for two weeks.
The store in the village. It even has a mini liquor store.
Marquis has a post office.
Marquis is a very quiet village with only about a hundred residents.
Thursday October 24, 2013
The temperature is warmer then expected, time to do a quick wash of the
motorhome.
The motorhome is covered of sand and dust. It is good to see the
motorhome clean.
Jim and Bonnie are very nice people, their dog, Tika, is also very good.
I think we made a good choice for a place to live a few weeks.
Friday October 25, 2013
Another view of our temporary residence.
A few of the streets and building in Marquis.
On the left, a church turned into a house.
The main street with the post office, the convenience store which has a
small liquor store inside. The village office.
Now don't forget we are right in the middle of rush hour, just joking!
Tonight we are having Ribs with Jim and Bonnie.
We ended the evening playing cards, we had a very good time.
Saturday October 26, 2013
Shopping day in Moose Jaw.
Michèle started the day with a haircut and the unavoidable visit to
WallyMart
We decide to have lunch at the Overseas Restaurant on main
street. We are very disappointed by this place.
This is only our personal opinion.
Marquis being a long way from a major liquor store, we make sure we
will not run out of anything soon!
Another must stop...
We actually came to Moose Jaw to do grocery because we will be having a
raclette Sunday night with Jim and Bonnie.
Between Moose Jaw and Marquis the land is very flat.
We detour a little to drive in the little village of Tuxford located a
few kilometers before Marquis.
Tuxford is barely bigger than Marquis.
Relaxed evening, mostly reading, TV and some internet.
Sunday October 27, 2013
Funny weather we are having today. We had a +1 this morning and
now it is noon and we are at -3 C.
Tonight we are having a raclette for dinner. This is the first
time Jim and Bonnie ever had a raclette.
They really liked it.
We finished the evening with a good action movie.
Monday and Tuesday October 28 and 29, 2013
Jim and Bonnie are back to work today.
Not much to report for the last few days. The nights are on the
cold side, -10C, and the days are in the +5 range.
We are sure glad we are sleeping indoor!
Wednesday October 30, 2013
We are back in town, (Moose Jaw) to buy some candies for Halloween.
When we got back home, we went for a walk with Tika, Jim and Bonnie'
dog.
Tika is one good dog.
Thursday October 31 to November 2, 2013
Halloween night was a big success, 12 kids showed up for candies.
Marquis is a very small village.
We remembered Cold Lake with 150 kids on Halloween night.
Friday and Saturday were quiet days.
Until next time.
Life is good...
