Wednesday and Thursday January 16 and 17, 2013
Two very easy days.
Wednesday we played a new dice game. It is called "Left, Right,
Center".
Very fast and lots of fun to play this game
Thursday, Keith and Isabelle invited us for dinner at Buffalo Wild
Wings. Thanks Keith and Isabelle. We will probably see you
this summer on our way to Moose Jaw.
Friday January 18, 2013
The sky is cloudy and the temperature is on the cool side at +20
C. This is a good day to visit the Tampa RV Show.
Breakfast at Mac Donald.
The Tampa RV Show is huge. Here we see the "campground" for the
RV Show. These RV are not for sale.
As I said, this is a huge RV show. The tickets are good for two
days. They know that most people will not have time to see
everything in one day.
Two motorhome interiors that we liked.
They even had a "Vintage" section for old RVs.
On the left, a Ford Model T 1916 that was modified in 1916. They
even had slide outs back then.
I guess slide outs are not so new after all. On the right, a nice
trailer from the 50's
It was a very busy day at the RV Show. We did mostly "window
shopping". We are keeping our motorhome for a few more years.
Our circuit board for the motorhome has arrived today. I will
install it tomorrow.
Saturday to Monday, January 19 to 21, 2013
Saturday morning, the first thing I did was install the circuit
board. Everything works now.
Saturday evening we had a dance at the Rec Hall and it was lots of fun.
Sunday Michèle watched the semi-finales of Football. Four teams
were playing for the finals. Michèle watched both games.
Surprise! Michèle won at the "pool" and got $35.00
Monday was another laid-back day. We did the social tour to say
our goodbyes to all our friends at the RV park.
Pete and June, we will probably see you this spring as we make our way
back north.
The rest of the day was spent packing up the stuff in and under the
motorhome. Amassing what you have out after 5 weeks.
Tuesday January 22, 2013
8:15 am and we hit the road.
First stop, in the RV park, to hook up the car to the motorhome.
A few people stopped to say goodbye.
Here is Pete coming for a last goodbye.
On our way south to Homestead, we take I-275 and the Sunshine Skyway
Bridge and then the I-75.
Total cost to use the bridge for the motorhome and the car, $4.25, not
bad.
This is pretty well the same road we took through the Everglades in
November
2010.
A short stop at the information center and look at some big
alligators. Lucky us, an alligator is feeding right now. He
is 4 or 5 feet long. It was pretty neat to watch him eat.
He is feeding on small fish coming up to the surface.
Two other alligators sunning themselves. They were up to 10 feet
long.
We arrived in Homestead at the Boardwalk RV park around 3:30 pm.
Patrice and Manon are not here yet.
We got set-up quickly.
Patrice and Manon arrived about 30 minutes later. Here they are
setting up with their new (to them) truck-camper.
Once we were all set-up, we had a few beers and talked up a storm.
It is always a pleasure to see Patrice and Manon again.
Wednesday, Thursday, January 23 and 24, 2013
Wednesday is a relax day, lot of catching up to do. We
spend the afternoon at the pool and we enjoyed a very good
dinner.
A very good day!
Thursday is like Wednesday. Michèle and Manon took a nice walk in
the RV park. They came across this "fruit".
It is a water coconut.
Next to the pool we have some banana palm tree.
Two very good days.
Friday January 25, 2013
A big day ahead of us. We are going to Shark Alley N.P. We
are riding the paved trail to the observation tower some 11 km
away. This will make a nice 22 km ride on our bicycles.
Getting the bicycles ready for our ride.
Before we even got on the road, we saw some alligators and one
turtle. Manon and Patrice are very impressed by the alligators.
The trail is pretty strait, some of the birds we saw on our way to the
tower.
This year, we see a lot of young alligators measuring about 12 inches
long, pretty neat!
The alligators are looking for heat and they are coming up to the
road looking for that heat. Most alligators are sleeping, but we
still give a wide space to the one closest to the road.
After about 11 km, we are at the observation tower. Here, we are
leaving our bikes to the good care of this alligator. He is a six
footer.
On our way to the top.
View to the north from the tower.
Many alligators are sunning themselves and they are big. On the
right, a soft shell turtle crossing the river underwater.
On our way back, we saw this turtle by the road. It is about 24
inches long.
After a 22 km bike ride, we need a good meal. Alligator tails,
frog legs, fish, chicken and a club house sandwich. Everything is
deep fried except the club house sandwich. A good meal.
After our meal, time to go on an air boat ride. Lucky for us, we
are the only 4 on the small air boat.
We ask the driver to give us a "good ride".
The driver is giving us a good ride, many donuts. We estimate our
speed at about 50 km/h. Here is an old hunter's camp used until
the 70s.
Our air boat!
We stopped for a few moments at an old Indian family house in the
everglades. Here, we are coming back to the dock.
We sure had a good ride, thanks to our good driver.
The tour is not over yet, next we get an information session about
the turtles
and alligators living in the Everglades.
A baby alligator, but still very sharp teeth.
Two very courageous person...
Got to have a photo with the big alligator! A short break before
going back home.
We had a pretty busy day today, we are tired, but very happy.
Saturday January 26, 2013
This morning we are off to the Flea Market, it is a few miles up the
road. We love this flea market because it has some new stuff, but
lots of used stuff. Off course, the food is usually good...
We ate at a true Mexican place, quesadillas and tacos, not made the
north American way but the Mexican way.
We also tried a kind of "cake". It is made with sweet corn bread
and cheese, just like a grilled cheese. OK, but not much better
then that.
Manon and me sharing a cup of fruits...
Most of the vendors are Mexicans, Cubans and Jamaicans. They all
play music at a very high volume. To the point where it becomes
irritating.
Back home, we took a little dip in the pool. Outside temperature,
+25 C and the water is at +25 C. Ahhhhhh!
Another very good day.
Sunday January 27, 2013
Patrice wants to see some fishing from a pier. Off we go to Miami
and Miami Beach.
Surprise!
Every time we tried to get to the beach and a pier, we came across the
Miami Marathon. Too many cars, nothing moves...
We got tired of this waiting so we headed back home. We stopped
at the BrandsMart U.S.A. store to compare the prices for households
items to Canada. Not to much difference.
Back at home, myself and Patrice decide to go for a bike ride on the
bike path next to the bus road. This road is for buses
only. It goes from Florida City to south Miami where the
train/metro takes over. What a great idea.
After talking to some of the seasonal people on the park, we learned
that it is a little on the cool side at +24 C. It is usually more
like +28 C.
Monday January 28, 2013
This is a shake down trip for Patrice and Manon, their first trip with
and RV (truck
camper). The connections for the sewer in the park are very high,
un-usually high. Patrice has the idea to use a rain gutter to
help
in keeping the angle "right" for the drain hose.
Pretty well every evening we watch our favorite show "Le
Tricheur" or "The Cheater" in English.
Life is good!
Thursday January 29, 2013
Key West, here we come!
Manon and Patrice are coming with us to Key West.
Some of the sights we saw on our way to Key West.
Patrice needed a new pair of sandals. We stopped at a few places,
mostly the "Sandal Outlet" stores.
Here is the purchase.
Had to stop at a Chinese buffet for lunch! Small, but good
food.
The next two night are at the Days Inn. We forgot that the
chickens are running free here in Key West.
Our room and the view from our room.
Once we are settled in, we take the free shuttle to Duval Street and
Mallory square for the sunset.
Duval Street.
A good frozen Margarita.
The girls did some shopping and we did some waiting...
One of the street entertainer in Mallory square.
All our eyes are pointing to the west waiting for the sunset.
Getting close to the sunset.
Always beautiful...
Once the sun has gone down, the street entertainers continue to
entertain the people.
Always something different in Key West.
Back in our room, we "skyped" with Danielle, Jérémy and
Gabriel. We sure do miss then a lot.
A very good week, tomorrow we visit more of Key West with Manon
and Patrice.
Wednesday January 30, 2013
Today is our only full day in Key West. We are making the most
out of
it.
We start the day with a guided tour of Key West with Old Town
Trolley. The tour lasts one hour and half.
The tourists.
Even if we have done this tour the last time we
were in Key West, we love doing tours because the guides always tell a
little something different from each other.
The end of
US 1,
This point is 3846 km from its starting point in Fort Kent, Maine.
Hummm! Sponge man or the typical tourists? I like the one
on the right!
We had lunch at
Hogs
Breath Salon. Good food.
For the afternoon, we revisited some of the sights we liked.
One of them was the southernmost point. We are closer to Cuba than
Miami.
We have booked a sunset cruise for this evening.
It is called,
"Commotion On The Ocean".
Live music, free drinks and free food,
all for $40 per person.
As we are waiting to board the ship, we look out to the sea, like the
pelican!
This is not an aquarium, but fish swimming around the docks at the
marina.
So beautiful.
Our ship, the Key West Fury with the "
Commotion On The Ocean" cruise.
Ahhhhh!
Our cruise goes by Mallory Square. The band is rocking the boat.
All you can drink beer and margaritas...
We never get tired of the sunset here in Key West.
Back at our motel, we took a little dip in the pool before we called
it the night.
A very busy day.
Thursday January 31, 2013
Our stay in Key West is over.
We are heading back to
Homestead. One of the many old bridges.
OK, in Florida, they are called alligators and they are from the
crocodile family. I kept correcting Patrice and Manon to say
alligator. Well, after seeing this road sign, they pretty well
said what they wanted...
Lunch at Subway.
We made it home.
After we got settle in, we spent some time at the pool.
Until next time.
Life is good...
