We finished our last three fire trucks at the end of the morning.

We will take them out after lunch.
I decided to wear my North Shore hoody for the occasion.

Here are the thirteen fire trucks I helped building. Fourteen trucks were built, but one  is missing because it is sold and gone.

By the way, eleven are already sold. One goes to the campground. One goes to the Campinginontario.ca association for an auction.

This is the end of the construction of fire trucks, but!

We don't waste any time and start on the next project. A Heavy Duty Wrecker (tow truck).

The shop seems so big!

The wrecker is going to be big, 18 feet long. Jan is very good. He uses only a photo as a plan.
As for me? I only do what Jan tells me to do. Which is a lot!!!

Trying to figure out the scale of this wrecker.

A small heatwave came through our area in the evening. It created fog.

Jan is studying the photo for the next step.

We are building the floor and everything that goes "under" the floor.

I am learning so much with Jan.

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Gabriel is with Jeremy, Kristin and Natasha for spring break.
Take a guess at what they are doing?
Ice fishing!

Natasha is riding her pony.

I made some pretty big purchases from Amazon.ca. I ordered Monday night, it was delivered at 10:30 this morning. This is what we bought.
After I did some research between the price in Canada and the U.S. I decided to purchase the "Surge Protector and Auto shut-off PWD50" from Hughes.

One of the features is the possibility to monitor your power usage on your smartphone.

My laptop is dead, or I should say my screen on my laptop is dead. I already paid to get it fixed, but it did not work for long. Something with the video circuit on the motherboard. Anyway, it is dead. But the hard drive is still good. I ordered a casing for the hard drive to make it portable or an external hard drive. I now have a portable HD.

And lastly, I ordered two air filters for our air purifier. I am very happy with our purchases.

I forgot, I did not work today. Jannie and Jan are visiting some friends.

Jannie is babysitting Patricia's dogs. Charger, the black one and diesel, the brown one.

The end of another working day. The floor is not properly installed.
It may seem like not much was done, but a lot of thinking was done to make it with the right proportions.

It was a nice sunny day today.

We are invited for supper at Jannie and Jan's place.
We are having a "meal in foil".

It was very good and easy to make.

I know I said this before, but we had so much fun with them.

Thanks for the good food and good time!

Today, we did install the floor.

The "wrecker" is taking shape.

We are very happy with the progress we made today.

Only half a working day for me today.
The campground with the water from the snowmelt.

This is normal, soon the water will be all gone.

Our names and date, plus COVID-19 is written on a board going to the wrecker.

Sometimes, it is the small stuff that takes time to build. Like the two front seats. It took over an hour to build them.

But the "walls" are quickly done.

Jan also spent a good amount of time on the front fenders.

The results at the end of my half-day.

I did some shopping with Michele this afternoon.

Photos of our Natasha with her Dad at breakfast at A&W.

Jannie and Jan invited us for an afternoon in the "County". We are going to visit one or two sugar shacks in Prince-Edward County.
It is an open door of 6 or 7 sugar shacks. During the pandemic, they are following all the safety protocols from the government.

First stop, County Shores.

This is Andrew, the son of the owner. He "discovered" maple syrup around 12 years old while visiting a Sugar Shack on a school trip. Jump 10 years later, he has over six hundred taps. Andrew is very passionate about maple syrup.

This is Michele. If we would have seen a person like this a year ago, we would have called the police. Now? It is almost normal.
It was windy and cold today.

The sugar bush with it taps and tubing for the collection of the sap.

They had a food truck on the premises. We all had the water buffalo sliders with a salad covered with a maple syrup dressing. It was good.

We are in wine country also. We stopped a one of the local wineries, ThreeDogWinery.

This is the bottle of red wine we drank. A good red wine.

The taste room and we could only drink our wine outside following all the rules...... COVID-19.

I forgot to take my mask off to drink! Good wine with good friends.

Our last stop of the day is at Walt's Sugar Shack for some meat (?). They are renowned for the quality of the beef they produce.
We could not buy any because they sold out for the day.

Today was a nice sunny and cold day with good friends.

It is moving along pretty fast.

Michele kept the car for the afternoon.
Many days, when I am done working, I stay with Jan and Jannie and have a cold beer and shoot the breeze. Since Michele has the car and has to come and pick me up, she also stayed for a beer.

Tuesday, March 9, 2021

Once again, Michele saw the fox hunting for the muskrat.

This was another good day at work. BTW, I say work, but I am a volunteer and during this time of COVID. It is great to be busy, cheaper than therapy.
We are cutting and installing the last part going on the fire trucks. The lightbar on the roof.

Here are the fire trucks with the red lights on the roof.

A closer look.

Natasha is at her daycare in Moose Jaw.

Today is the day we move the "cooking shack" to almost its final resting place.
The morning was spent working and the wrecker, but the afternoon was for the cooking shack.
While we are moving the cooking shack, Michele has a coffee in the office at the campground. She watches the action on the security cameras. Number 1 is the office at the house at the campground, number 2, is the back of the house, one road over. It is Janie and Jan's house.

Michele is enjoying the show.

This is just like a reality show on TV.
We have to move/roll the cooking shack from its position to the patio. We are 4 people, Jan, Jannie, Patricia and me.
We are using old awning tubes/rollers to roll the shack into place. The Kubota RTV is pushing the cooking shack over the rollers.
We can see Jannie looking over the situation.

The finer details of the plan are being implemented as the shack moves.

It is working, with minor adjustments along the way.

Oops! A substantial adjustment is needed to make it on the patio.

The last 4 or 5 feet are the easiest. All is well.

One last pull, we are done, almost. A few things still have to be done to the cooking shack, then it will be moved closer to the house.

If you look closely at the last photo, you can see in the top center a trailer Jan built for the playground and on the right of the trailer, all the fire trucks.
With this job done, we are back working on the wrecker.

Monday, March 15, 2021

The bulk of the work is done. Now, we are working on the finishing touch, like the air horns.

It is moving along.

We made a new compartment for chains and a bar.

It was a good day. We had a lot of fun.

Until next time.

Life is good...
