Welcome to 2023.

Some photos of our family in Comox.
They are at Goose Spit Park for the Comox Polar Bear Swim.

They are courageous...

Kids are always attracted to water.

Gabriel's first saltwater fish.

A few days later, it was Natasha's first-ever haircut.

Monday, January 2, 2023.

We are hiking/visiting Tumco today.

Guess with who?

Not much is left of the town.

1780 is when the first documented prospection was done in the Cargo Muchacho Mountains.
The mines are further up the valley.

You always have a cemetery in a ghost town.

Reading a little history here.
The actual town of Tumco really expanded after 1877.

Looking to the west at the Algodones Sand Dunes.

Not many structures are left.

We could see many holes in the side of the mountains.
They were testing shafts into a vein to check out the gold contained.

Some "Sluice Boxes" were used in the later years of the mine's operations.

Because it is a valley, the water, when it rains, does a lot of erosion.
The Grand Canyon?

Michelle doing the Titanic thing!

A ghost?

Or a monster?

It is beautiful!

The mines were in operation until 1942. More than 200,000 ounces were extracted from the mines.
How many kilometres did we walk? I do not know, but it must be over three kilometres.

The great adventurers.

It is our son Benoit's birthday today.
Happy Birthday, Benoit.
Since it is almost a tradition with Benoit.
We have Tequila shots for his health.

Ready?

Licking the salt.

Drink the Tequila.

Bite the lemon.

And to confirm we had good photos, we had to do three shots of Tequila...

Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Jeremy and Kristin sent us this photo of Natasha being mad at her dad.

Less than an hour later, she loved her dad again... They do not know what happened.

It is bingo night.

I won one bingo with two other people. The prize was $7.

Michele won $20 by herself.

Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

Someone gave Gaétan this sunshade a year ago. He is not using it and gave it to us.
It only needs a good cleaning. I will borrow the pressure washer from Éric sometime in the next few weeks.

If you remember, we sometimes had issues with our stairs extending while driving.
The cause was the two magnets no longer lined up. Why  don't they line up all the time?
Over time and driving, the screen door ended up out of square. It drooped, preventing the magnet from lining up at times.

To bring back the door to a good square, I added a piece of metal at 45 °.
This way, the two magnets are lined up and stay lined up. No more stairs extending while driving.

Friday, January 6, 2023.

It is "Howling At the Moon" tonight. We are going with our friends Jannie, Jan, Judith and Éric.

This one has been howling for a while!

We are a little far from the stage, but we can listen to the music without having to talk loud.

It is not a sand desert here.

Michele and Jannie each bought a hoody with "Howling At The Moon" on it.

Michele loves it. The front.

And the back.

The stage.

Us.

This time around, we did not take food with us. We will buy it from the food trucks at the party.
We chose this one because the line was shorter. Michele had the BBQ Loaded Nacho and I had the Chicken Bomb.
It was good.

We are listening to the music and waiting for the moon to show up and howl.
A big cloud is preventing us from seeing the moon rise. Shortly after the moon came out, we did howl at the moon, along with over 1,000 people.

The sunset was better than the moonrise!

A few fireworks were launched.

The band was pretty good and lots of people danced.

By the time we got back, it was only 7 pm.
Michele suggests we go to the pool for a while.
Good idea.

We had a good day.

Saturday, January 7, 2023.

A lazy day at home.
We are having a group supper and Jannie and Jan are joining us.
I think I will use this photo to sell the MH.

We are having supper at Gail and Dennis' place with Michelle and Gaétan.

We are having Tomahawk Steaks. This is the first time we have had that, same with Jannie and Jan.
Michelle is supervising Gaétan cutting the Tomahawk Steaks.

The meat is very tender and good.

It was a good meal with friends.

Sunday, January 8, 2023.

We had a few drinks at Jannie and Jan's place. Michele cut Jan's hair too.
Once again, we forgot to take photos.

Monday, January 9, 2023

It is our Monday hike in the mountains.
The group.

We are hiking the Fortuna Wash to Box Canyons and Petroglyphs trail.
The trail is about 3.3 miles. We should gain about 400 feet in elevation.

Let's go!

The ladies, Michel(l)e.

Yuma.

Our destination is somewhere in there.

The right branch of the trail will take us to the Box Canyon to the petroglyphs.

Looking down the canyon towards the valley.

It is steep at times.

Here they are, the petroglyphs.

It is not easy to see.

Michele did not climb all the way to the petroglyphs. She waited for us halfway up.

When we came back to Michele, we had lunch.

Us.

Gaétan and Michelle are taking another trail.

They had to backtrack. It was no trail.

The gang after the hike.

And the crazy photo in the car.

Once again, it was a fun hike with good friends.

Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

We contacted the people we bought the 5th wheel from to see if we could go and revisit our 5th wheel. We want to see what will come with the 5th wheel when we get it.
I took only one photo, it is of the water softener. Michele did a good survey of the inside.

Michele won another $20 at bingo tonight.

Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

We took no photos. We were invited for supper at our neighbour's.
Another couple was also invited.
We ate good food and had a very nice evening.

Thursday, January 12, 2023.

Like every Thursday morning, we play bean bag.
It is also a way to meet other people from the Park.

And we got more photos of Natasha.

Friday, January 13, 2023.

We received the dates for when Jeremy and Kristin are going to Hawaii.
They will be away from February 25 to March 4.
Michele will go to Comox from February 17 to March 12 to look after Natasha.
As for me?
I will stay here in Arizona.

Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Natasha had her first soccer practice today.

She worked so hard that when she got home, she had to take a nap.
She had to nap with her soccer jersey.

Michele spoiled me this morning. She cooked breakfast for me.

We are having supper at Judith and Éric today. It is their way to say thank you for all the help they got with the trailer they bought.

We had a really good "Tourtière du Lac St-Jean". It is Éric's specialty.

During the evening, Dennis said he was cold. Judith got him a blanket to keep him warm.
Dennis was embarrassed.

We had a lot of fun.
A big thank you to Judith and Éric for the very good meal and a fun evening.

Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Even if Natasha's birthday is in a few days, Jeremy and Kristin had the birthday party today.
Kristin made all the cupcakes with a mermaid tail.

Natasha, the mermaid.

This is the partier.

They had quite the spread.

They had a room at the sports center on base.
After the cake and the snacks, time to play in the gym.

She sure has changed.

It was a hard day for Natasha.

A few days ago, Jan asked me if I wanted to join him for a ride with him on a side-by-side ride.
Of course!
We went riding in the hills around Yuma.

We had four side-by-side for the ride
They are really nice people.

We had many stops during the ride. It was to look for rocks, special rocks.

Sorting out the spoils.

Jan and his side by side.

A bush with flowers.

I had a good day with Jan.
Thanks, Jan.

Until next time.

Life is good...
