1 to 15 August 2023   16 to 31 August 2023

Tuesday, August 1st, 2023.

Michele bought some used stilts for Natasha.
She tried them, and rapidly, she gets the hang of them.

This is just a pretty photo.

Jeremy is working again this evening. Kristin and Gabriel are going to play soccer with some friends.
Natasha is spoiled. She gets glow sticks again tonight. She is hanging on to them.

Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

Natasha is at daycare.
Kristin, Jeremy and Gabriel are gone to Nanaimo for the morning for service on the Audi.
Michele and I are going to Parksville to look at some travel trailers.
Nothing moves us in what we are seeing.

In Parksville, they have the Sand Castle Sculptures show.
We stopped by to have a look. In no particular order, here they are.

It was nice.

Gabriel is in the MH for a sleepover.

Thursday, August 3, 2023.

This morning, we are on our way to Trent Falls and possibly for a swim.
It is not very far from the main road. The last part is pretty steep.

This is what we saw as we arrived. The photo on the left is now and the photo on the right was taken on June 26th.
This is the result of the drought we are having in the Comox Valley.

We still went in for a swim. The water was cold.

Jeremy is flying his drone over the falls and filming at the same time.

This is downriver from the falls. Because of the low water level, you can see the bottom of the river.
Some of the exposed rocks do have weird look, like the one on the left. It looks like the spine of a dinosaur.

The boys, big and small, had fun building dams.

Natasha has fun with the giraffe.

Grand-maman bought a leotard for Natasha. She loves it.

She sure loves to eat.

Friday, August 4, 2023.

Jeremy is back to work after two days off.

Michele baked some blackberry muffins. They are very good.

Kristin went to bingo with a friend this evening.
We are alone with the kids. Natasha is eating like a horse.

Gabriel has made a friend, Emmanuel. They get along really well.

Saturday, August 5, 2023.

It is a hot day at +30. With the humidex, it goes up to +35°C.
It is pool time.

Our "Beach Girl" on her surfboard.

Grand-papa is the drying person.

Natasha is always close to her brother.

It is Saturday evening, and it is sleepover time for Natasha.

It is so hot in the MH. Even Natasha is not getting too close.

They highlight of her sleepover, the glow sticks.

We even had a great sunset.

Sunday, August 6, 2023.

This is what I saw when I got to the living room.
The two rascals were watching TV in bed.
Natasha loves moments like this.

Jeremy, Kristin and Natasha went for a walk in the Fairy Forest in Lerwick forest.

It is funny to see them together.

Grand-maman is at the playground with Natasha.
I am in the back of the backyard looking towards the playground. This is how close we are to the playground.

Here they are!

Monday, August 7, 2023

Just an ordinary day after we picked up Natasha at daycare.

Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

The temperature is cooling down. The rain has arrived.

So we spent time indoors.

Jeremy uses this time to prep his fishing equipment.

He is prepping some new lures for the pink salmon.
Gabriel is helping Jeremy. Natasha looks on but loses interest quickly.

Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

The weather is looking like rain, but Jeremy and Gabriel are going fishing anyway.

The rainbow trout are biting at Maple Lake this morning.

It is a good day today. Gabriel points to one of his fish. The biggest fish, he says.

We have a family moment after work and daycare.

They are having a feast of trout.

Shortly after supper, the rain started. It lasted the whole night.

Gabriel is having a sleepover with us tonight.

Thursday, August 10, 2023.

We can only plug-in the MH in a 20 amps outlet right now. With only 20 amps, we cannot run the AC when it is hot. When the temperature hits +30°C outside, our bedroom hits +33°C. This is without the humidex. We are getting a 30 amps outlet installed at the house. It is at our cost.

The outlet will be on this wall.

They are hard at work.

Almost done.

In less than two hours, they are done!

I can't wait to see the bill for this!

It is early,  and we have time for another hike this morning.
We are on our way to the China Bowl.

It is not a long or a hard hike.

Here we are. The water level is so low now, but it is still impressive.

The hikers after the hike.

We all enjoyed this China Bowl. It is amazing what water can do over time.

Since Jeremy and Kristin are in the military, the MFRC came up with a doll for kids with one parent deployed for some time. Having the photo of the parent away from home helps the child deal with missing his/her parent. They can talk to them, give them hugs...
I believe it is a very good idea.

I will get back to the doll after Kristin is gone for a few weeks.

Friday, August 11, 2023.

Jeremy, Gabriel and I are going on a fossil search.
We are booked for a tour/dig for fossils with the Courtenay & District Museum and Paleontology Centre.
l

Our guide is Pat. The first part is in the museum and talks about the history of paleontology in the area.
Some of the finds they have are this Elasmosauridae.

Gabriel is a little worried!

After about 30 minutes in the museum, we all headed to the Trent River.
We are about 1 kilometre above the falls we swam in.
Pat explained all about digging for fossils. Where to look and not to look.

The great paleontologist.

The river is almost dry.

We found a few fossils of clams and other mollusks.

Jeremy being Jeremy, he had to draw something on a rock and call it a fossil...

Natasha is going home after daycare.

We had a nice fire after supper.

Natasha is in the MH for the night. It is not a sleepover.
Tomorrow is the real sleepover with junk food, glow sticks and a movie.
But she still gets a story before bedtime.

She still gets the  glow sticks.

Another great day.

Saturday, August 12, 2023.

We are out of bed by 5 am. This is just before sunrise.
Me, Jeremy and Gabriel are going salmon fishing.
We make a quick stop at Tim Horton's for our breakfast and headed for Oyster River.
We are fishing near the river but on the ocean side. The pink salmon are just starting to run. They are not easy to catch.

The fishing was not good. We had entertainment. Gabriel fell in the water with his waders. He is all wet and not happy.

On our way back, Gabriel could not stay awake. Getting up early is not his thing.

Natasha fell on her way back from daycare. Grand-maman is looking after the boohoo.

It is not keeping her from the playground.

Natasha loves it when I turn her into a burrito.

It is a hot day. Grand-maman and Natasha went to play basketball anyway.
They are taking a break in the shade.

Tonight is the real sleepover for Natasha. Junk food, a movie, glow sticks, stories and lot's of laughs.

She is burnt out!

Sunday, August 13, 2023.

The gang went to the beach in the afternoon, not me or Michele. It is too hot for us.

When they got back, they played with the ball and the sun shelter Jeremy just bought.

Jeremy bought a new Beta fish for the aquarium. The Beta fish is in the bag. The water will be the same for the release.
Natasha is cleaning the new structure they bought before they put it in the aquarium.

Natasha stole a T-shirt from Kristin.

We had homemade pizza for supper.
It was a good Sunday.

Monday, August 14, 2023

Jeremy is not working today. We are dropping off Natasha at daycare.
Sometimes, it gets complicated!

Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Jeremy has another day off. We decided to go down the Puntledge River on tubes.
We are ready to launch!

We got on the river after the fish hatchery.

After about one hour on the tubes, we arrived at the Condesory Bridge and left the river. We travel about 3 kilometres.
The water was fast-moving with little rapids almost all the way. It was fun. Gabriel flipped over once and lost his hat and sunglasses. He was upset at losing his sunglasses. We all loved this trip downriver.

We bought a travel trailer today.
We will pick it up tomorrow. Because of the configuration of the trailer, we have to remove two steel/concrete posts that are no longer needed. It was to protect the gas regulator at one time. We worked hard on the first one but got smart and used the car to pull down the other one.

This is the new Beta fish who moved into the aquarium a few days ago. His name is Major Payne, like in the movie.

He has some friends now.

Until next time.

Life is good...
