1 to 15 April 2023   16 to 30 April 2023

Sunday, April 16, 2023.

Today is a do-nothing day.
I did take a walk around town.
Our campground. It is nice. At $19 a night with full hookups with very good internet, not bad at all.

Another view of our site.

The patio.

A small stream behind the campground

The State Route 50 is in front of the campground. Notice the traffic!

Many roads are paved with bricks.

No joke, this is the old train station.

The cook is hard at work making shepherd's pie.

Guess who got new headphones?

Today is warmer but still a little windy.
Time to wash the MH and the car.
This gentleman came over to chat.

When he finally left, I washed the car.

Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

It is still a windy day today.

It does not matter. We are going to Dodge City.
Dodge City is a "Cow Town".

We did stop at a Thrift Store, but according to Michele, it was not very good.
The main attraction in Dodge City is the "Boot Hill Museum".

Once again, the famous steam locomotive.

We do not know what to expect at this museum. At $16 per person, we hope it will be worth it.
The museum relates the story of the area, the people who lived here and the history of Dodge City.

This is the wagon that brought the people into the area. All they owned was in the wagon.

This is what Dodge City was all about.

Now we know where the term shot comes from.

This is probably like a lot of cities in the West.

What brought the people to this area was the buffalo. Millions of them were here.
At the same time, in the Northeast of the US, the industrial revolution created a demand for good quality leather for belts for machinery. The Buffalo hide made the best leather belts.

The stagecoach had some pretty strict rules.

Dodge City was the end of the trail for the cattle coming from the south. The cattle were loaded on trains and shipped East.

That is a lot of beef.

The people were so small and pretty.

Some people were quite creative.

I did not know that.

The "Soiled Doves", what a story.

?

With the inside done, we continued outside.
The traditional cemetery.

The prison with its sole prisoner.

They have a "main street" as part of the museum.

You enter the first building and walk to the end of the street inside the buildings.

Things have not changed much since then.

Wyatt Earp, What a man and a legend.

I had never seen a collection like this one.

Where there are cowboys, you have the prostitutes.

The saloons.

Le Undertaker.

I did not know that. Did you?

It was a busy week.

We did enjoy the museum.

On our way back, an overlook is located on a hill overlooking a stockyard. The number one employers are meatpacking industries.

Near the overlook, they have a small Texas Longhorns heard for tourists.

We had a busy day.

Photos from Comox.
Natasha is playing hide and seek. Little ones cannot help but make sure you can find them. Just like this little hand sticking under the door.

Our pretty daughter-in-law, Kristin.

We are leaving Kinsley this morning. We are in for another windy day.

Can you see who is the guardian of this heard?

It is the donkey.

The first part of the drive is on back roads.

One more stop to fill the MH.

We are on our way to Kansas City.

The wind was blowing so hard at one time that one of the mouldings at the door ripped out. I had to cut it off.

Welcome to Missouri.

Our new home for the night.

We are close to the Interstate.

They sell propane at this RV Park. It is time to fill up the propane.

Our site.

I really needed to clean the windshield.

It was not a fun day to drive. The roads were good, but the wind was terrible.

Thursday, April 20, 2023.

Last night we had a big thunderstorm with hail. We had another one in the middle of the night, but no hails.
I am up at 6 am. I check out the weather for today. WOW! A storm system is coming soon, very soon, to Kansas City. A warning is issued for severe thunderstorms and hail. I wake up Michele. We pack in record time. We are rolling by 7 am.
It was time. The clouds were just arriving.

We are ahead of the storm system. We see more road construction in the northern states compared to the southern states.

It is another windy day.

Ah, the United States is a country of cars and roads. When they built highways and bridges, they make them wide right away. Like this one bridge with 5 lanes. The other bridge also has 5 lanes. We are in Saint-Louis.

The mighty Mississippi.

One more State.

Our new home, the campground is in Mulberry Grove, IL.

This one is far from the Interstate. It is a Passport America, so we only pay half price for the night.

Once we are settled in, I climbed on the roof to check if anything is damaged from the hail.
We have three roof vent covers. One is in perfect shape. The other one is cracked in a few places.

And the last one is... gone. It was 7 years old and brittle anyway.

The road was nice and as usual, windy.

Friday, April 21, 2023.

We had another good thunderstorm last night, but no hail.
We are back on the Interstate. Ah, some of the things we see!

Indiana.

Three nice older scooters.

We were supposed to go around the city of Indianapolis. Over the last few years, they reconstructed the highways in the city.
I missed the turn-off and drove through the city centre. It turned out OK, not too much traffic.
I think I know what they make here.

Now, this is advertising.

This is the town where our next campground is located.

Mar-Brook.

Oh boy! Are we next to the Interstate or not?

We paid over $80 CDN for this site. I was too tired to move somewhere else.
The noise from the road was so loud. Sometimes it is what it is.

It was a good driving day.

Someone has been drinking on the job!

Michigan is the last State before we enter Canada.

We filled up the MH one last time in the US.
Here, the price is about $1.299 per litre. In Strathroy, Ontario, it is $1.53 per litre.

We only had rain from a few miles.

Canada, here we come!

The "Blue Water Bridge" crosses the St.Clair River to Canada.

A small sign to say "Welcome to Canada".

And a big sign to welcome you to Ontario!

We are going to the Walmart in Strathroy for the night.

It was a good travelling day. The weather was nice and very little wind.

Going through custom was easy, just a few questions and off we go.

Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Being Sunday morning, very few people were on the streets. I fill the MH at the local Canadian Tire gas station. This will be the last one for a while.

Highway 402 is really nice.

Even the 401 in Toronto is nice.

How many lanes? Nine going east and 9 going west. I understand why a big international company moves to Ontario and not Quebec. If you drove through Montreal, you would understand.

Getting closer to Trenton.

We made it to our friend's house. Thank you, Jannie and Jan for (once again) letting us stay in your backyard for a few weeks.

They even invited us for supper. Home-made pizza. They are really good friends.

Going through Toronto at 95 km/h except for about 15 minutes at 60 km/h. Perfect.

WOW! After being so busy the last few weeks, we are now in "normal mode."

Jan put two electric "blowers" in the water around the pier.
What is does is push the mud/silts away. We use one dock with a hand winch to move the blowers. They are being moved many times a day to clear a channel for the boats to get to deeper water. It is not hard to do. You need many people to handle the floating dock and the winch simultaneously.

I worked on my updates for the web page. I am behind.

Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Another day at not being too busy.

Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

We were up early to get our blood work done.
After fasting since 7 pm last night, we treat ourselves to breakfast at A&W.

Thursday, April 27, 2023.

I am back on the clock. My first grass-cutting of the season. I am careful not to get stuck in the wet area.

Friday, April 28, 2023.

I worked all day with Jan at the Park house.
I like working with Jan.

Saturday, April 29, 2023.

We are the first clients at the new store at North Shore RV Park.

Michèle bought a hoody. I bought a new coffee cup. I broke my last one.

The weather is much nicer in Comox than here.

We cannot wait to see them.

We are going to the Brighton Barn Theater tonight. We are with Jannie and Jan.
This is the play we are going to.

They are amateur actors, but they are good.

We really enjoyed the play. It was very funny. We had a great evening.

Sunday, April 30, 2023.

In Comox, in Jeremy and Kristin's house, the smoke detector was coming on for no reason. The Firefighter came to look and found the smoke detector to be defective. Natasha got the tour of the firetruck.

Natasha wanted to protect her hears after that.

This is the last day to file for income taxes in Canada.
I did our taxes and filed the paperwork. Michele got money back and I get to give more to the government.
Regardless, we live in one of the best countries in the world.

Jannie invited us for supper to celebrate my birthday. We are celebrating a day early because the RV Park opens tomorrow. They would not have time to prepare the meal.
We are under a heavy rainfall warning.

We looked out the windows and saw deers in the field next to the house.

Can you see them?

And now?

Jannie always prepares my favourite meal for my birthday, ribs. Patricia and Andrew joined us too.

We had a good meal and good times.
Thank you, Jannie and Jan.

Until next time.

Life is good...
