1 to 15 October 2023   16 to 31 October 2023

Monday, October 16 to Friday, October 22, 2023.

Our pretty Kristin is in Saint-Jean, QC, for her basic military training.

Jeremy decided to make some prints of Natasha's feet and hands.

Natasha has a cardboard house now. She loves it.

Wednesday evening, we went to a play in Courtenay.
It was OK. It was a musical, and we are not fans of musicals.

Thursday, Jannie and Jan arrived from Ontario. They landed in Vancouver and took the ferry to Nanaimo.
We picked them up at the ferry terminal.

The aquarium has two new residents. Snow Flake and Night.

On Friday, Jeremy and Natasha went to the pumpkin patch.

Friday evening, we were invited to Jannie and Jan for supper.

Saturday, October 21, 2023.

Natasha came by the trailer to play with grand-maman.

A few days ago, we bought a honey pomelo. We have never seen this fruit.
We were told it was sweet.
Natasha watched me open it up. We tasted it. We are not impressed.

Natasha's house has a lock and a key now.

Sunday, October 22, 2023.

Natasha wanted to see how dirty her mouth was after lunch...

A good nap with grand-maman.

Natasha is sleeping in the trailer tonight and tomorrow night. Jeremy is working very early this shift.

It is always fun to have her with us.

Monday, October 23, 2023

It is an easy day like we like from time to time.
Natasha had a good day at daycare.

As I mentioned before, she loves forts.

She is sleeping in the trailer tonight and tomorrow night.

The weather is not very good. It is raining all day today and tomorrow. It will get worse tomorrow.

Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

And yes, it is much worse as far as the weather is. The forecasters/fortunetellers predicted wet snow for locations above 200 meters in elevation.
Well, we got snow at 10 meters elevation... This is OK. They will keep their jobs regardless.

While we were shopping at the Walmart, when we came out, it was snowing. We are only at 25 meters elevations.

At the top of Ryan Road, it is 86 meters and snowing hard.

We dropped by our friends Jannie and Jan for a coffee. They also had snow coming down.

Natasha with her new (to her) halloween tutu.

After supper, Jeremy and Natasha decided to go to Mount Washington (1,100 m) to play in the snow.
Jeremy is pushing the snow with his car. On a normal year at Mount Washington Alpine Resort, they receive 10 to 15 meters of snow on average per winter.

Natasha loves the snow.

I went online to book a ferry with BC Ferries from Dukes Point near Nanaimo to Tsawwassen, just south of the City of Vancouver.
We will take the ferry on Friday, November 3 and go south to Yuma for the winter.
For the MH, the ferry was $385 one-way. For the car, a one-way is $72

Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Because of the ocean close by, it is very humid here. This means lots of frost on everything in the morning.
Natasha is "painting" with her wet mitts.

The daycare keeps them busy.

Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Since the forecast says 10 % of rain for today, we picked up Jannie and Jan to go walk the Cathedral Grove.
Cathedral Grove is in the MacMillan Provincial Park. The park provides the only highway-accessible protected old-growth Douglas-fir forest in British Columbia.

Here on the Island, the winters are mild and a lot of rainfall, up to 3 m per year.
This is why you see so much moss. Get ready because I added lots of photos.

We arrived quickly at the biggest tree in the park. It is a Douglas Fir. He is about 800 years old.
He is 76 m tall and is 9 m round.

It is pretty hard to take this tall tree in one photo.

The four of us in front of the Big Tree.

Different views of the base of the tree.

There are so many other big trees. It is beautiful and impressive.

Ah, the mushrooms...

You also have many western red cedar in the forest.

We are impressed by the size of them and the view we have at times.

After the many kilometres we walked, we headed to Qualicum Beach for lunch.
We stopped at Q Burger. Jeremy told us it was one of the top 5 places in Canada for burgers.

It is nothing fancy.

Jannie and I took the Fish & Chips.

Jan and Michele took the True Canadian Classic burger.

The Fish & Chips were delicious. Jan and Michele told us the burgers were really, really good. One of the best they ever had.

It is a very small restaurant. It is very cozy, with a warm atmosphere. Even the washroom is small. Only one for all of the flavours of humankind...

Our next stop is the small town of Coombs.
We talked about the  Old Country Market place and the goats on the roof many times to Jan and Jannie. So here we are.

Me! Doing crazy stuff.

The Old Country Market sells products from all over the world. Jannie has to hold back on the buying.

A few meters to the south, you have the "Dutch Store". This is what Jannie wanted to see.
I can say, she bought many things here.

As we got back home, we stopped in Courtenay at the Wayward Distillery.
Did we buy some bottles? Of course!

One last stop before supper. The 40 Knots Winery. It is really cute. We tried the sampler with four wines. None of them were good to us. It is a personal preference.

When we got home. We had a light lunch. Natasha came to the trailer for the night.

We had a great day with our good friends, Jannie and Jan.

Friday, October 27, 2023.

Natasha loves her daycare. They do lots of activities.

They even have a "Dance Party".

They spend lots of time outside, even if it drizzles a little.
Natasha is painting with her wet mitts.

Natasha is starting a cold, just like about half her daycare.
She wants to wear a mask to protect us.

Nothing is as comfortable as a Dad, maybe a Mommy!

Saturday, October 28, 2023.

Natasha, stealing grand-maman's breakfast.

Jeremy is working early this morning. Natasha has a lot of fun with her dolls.

We have tea with cookies in the morning. Natasha loves the ritual.

Sunday, October 29, 2023.

Jeremy is working early again this morning. After he is done, he has two days off.
I am helping Natasha with colouring and building houses.

Under her supervision, I drew the house, all of us around the fire pit, the beach, etc...

We had to have another tea and cookies.

Grand-maman make very good lunches.

She is so easy to put to bed, either for the nap or for the night.

She finds herself so funny with her hair full of static electricity.

After work, when Natasha was having her nap. He went fishing with his friend Mike at Point Holmes.
When Natasha woke up, I decided to check the web cam at Point Holmes to see if I could see them. They were coming home!.

Natasha was very intrigued by looking at them on the laptop.

Jan and Jannie are leaving for Arizona today.

Monday, October 30, 2023

Natasha is sick today. She will be home with us.
Jeremy is off today. I guess we have two kids to look after.
Natasha requires more attention than Jeremy.

At one o'clock, Jeremy's friend, Ed, is moving the trailer from the driveway to the storage for the winter.
I was very impressed by Ed's attention to detail before moving the trailer. We sure got our money's worth with him. Thank you, Ed.

After a quick supper, Jeremy and Natasha sculpt the pumpkins.

This is the end result.

After Natasha's bath, grand-maman and grand-papa are out walking to check out the Halloween decorations.
Many are really nice.

The people living here are going all out on the decorations. Many were not yet lit up.

Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Natasha is feeling much better today. She is at the daycare. Because it is Halloween today, all the kids and staff are costumed.
They are on their way to the Canex Store on bases.

They met with a Military Police.
He hands out candies to the kids.

The Canex, the store on base, was waiting for them with candies.

Meanwhile, Michele and I are out at Costco for lunch.

Another quick supper, and it is time to get dressed up for Halloween.

You start with the makeup.

And you end up with a Fairy ready to go.

Natasha likes the Military Police because they hand out candies. They also give glow sticks.

She does very well Trick or Threating. She has a lot of fun.

She could not wait to see all the candies she got when she got home.

Natasha, and us, had a great day.

Kristin sent us a photo of her all dressed up as a soldier. We are very proud of you.

Until next time.

Life is good...
