1 to 15 May 2022   16 to 31 May 2022

Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Natasha is learning to play hopscotch.

Sadly, everything has an end. We are leaving Benoit this morning. The sun is very bright today.

Goodbye Benoit, we will see you again in June for Jeremy and Kristin's wedding.

We are on our way to visit my sister Estelle in the Laurentian.

But, before we go to her place, we stop at the restaurant La Belle Province for a good poutine.

Once again, I forgot to take photos of the day and evening. My sister Christianne came over for a visit. So did my brother Rolland and his wife Suzie. It was great to see them all once again.

Monday, May 2, 2022

Yesterday, after a great day and evening at Estelle's place, today we are at Rolland and Suzie's place.
As usual, Suzie had prepared a great meal.

Karole came by for a visit for a few hours. It is always fun to see her.
Dominique did drop by for a few minutes later on. It was good to see her too.

Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

Goodbye Rolland and Suzie, thank you for the hospitality.

We are back in our home province, with good roads.

I needed coffee because the last two evenings were well lubricated.

Wednesday and Thursday, May 4 and 5, 2022.

We had two relaxing days at home.

Friday, May 6, 2022.

It is the season of tennis tournaments. Michele is busy watching as many games as possible.

Not all the games. Some games are boring.

We are invited to Jan and Jannie's for supper.
First, Jan needs a haircut. He is at "Michele's Salon".

Jannie wanted to make a feast of fish they got from Mexico last winter since Wednesday.
But with the RV Park open, other issues took priority. Today is the day of the feast.
We are having grouper fish and some kind of flatfish as well. Jumbo shrimps too.

It was a great meal, no, a feast.
To your health!

The crazy photo.

It was a great meal and evening that we had, well-lubricated too.

Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Oh yes, well-lubricated it was last evening.
This morning we are putting the docks in the water.

The pier before the docks are in.

Once done.

The last docks are the ones between the pier and the cottages.

They did good work.

What did I do? I was the person removing the small wooded blocks between the stored docks and storing them.
Tough job, but someone has to do it.

I could not help myself, a photo of the playground with our handy work.

Some deers came by in the evening to munch on the new grass.

Sunday, May 8, 2022.

Photos Jeremy and Kristin sent us over the last few days.

I think Natasha will need her own bowl soon.

She is growing up so fast.

This is one happy little girl, the parent too.

Daddy and daughter fishing.

She is learning how to play hopscotch.

Guess what? We are invited again to Jannie and Jan's place for supper.
This is our "goodbye" supper. Jannie made my favourite, ribs.

Patricia and Andrew were with us too, great!

Group photo!

Jannie took out the bottle of tequila for a shooter. The tequila is the brand "Patrone". Very smooth.

Ah, the conversation.

See you next time Patricia and Andrew.

Another great meal with great friends.

Tomorrow we start our trip to Saskatchewan.

Monday, May 9, 2022

Today is day one of our trip to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
We are leaving our VIP campsite.

The next step is to hook up our car to the MH.

Our friends are here to say goodbye.

We are very lucky to have friends like those three.
Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Our destination? North Bay via Lindsay.

I still love to drive the MH.

This is one wide tractor.

We stop in Lindsay to refuel.
We are not looking forward to the price of gasoline in the north.

We do have beautiful roads in Ontario.

This is home for the night, the Walmart in North Bay.

For the last two years, we travelled quickly to Moose Jaw because of COVID. This year we are slowing down. Also, this may be the last year, for a while, we take this road if we do move to BC with Jeremy and Kristin.

Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

Our "campsite".

One of the few paper mills left in northern Ontario.

All the waterways we saw are filled to the max.

We are taking highway 11 to go to Manitoba.

By the afternoon, the wind was blowing pretty hard and coming sideways. It is not fun to drive in this condition.

No, it is not a police station, but a restaurant.

I did not notice the bison by the road.

The roads are very nice with some parts not as good.

Amish country?

We still see a few places with snow, even if the temperature is +25° C today.

After we were all set up, we went to Cochrane's information center.

Shoot, I cut the "c" in Cochrane.

After our visit to the information center, we drove to the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat to find when is the best time to visit the habitat. A Heritage Village and a snowmobile museum are located next to the Habitat.

The Polar Bear Habitat.

We learned they do not feed the bears at a fixed time. The secret is to spend time, lots of time seeing the polar bears.

We will come back tomorrow.

A little fewer kilometres today.

This time, our home is at Taylor Lake RV Park for two nights.

What a campground. We called and were told it was open, we showed up and they say it is closed! Finally, they are open. We paid cash, full price. We have no water, OK, we knew. I asked where do we put the garbage?? I am told, "You take it away with you when you leave". In the future, I do not think we will come back here.

Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

Our site, no sewer, no garbage, full price. Still a nice site.

We have a busy day in front of us.
We are back at the "Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat" to start our visit.

The three residents, Ganuk, Henry and Inukshuk.

It is a very nice center with lots of information on polar bears.

Our new friends.

Even with the temperature at +26° C. Some snow remains.

Get ready, you will see lots of polar bears photos.

This is also their sleeping quarters, kitchen, medical office, etc.

They have three main enclosures, why three? At times they have to be separated to keep harmony. Even being three males, in the spring, it is mating season and the hormones are pretty high.

We were very lucky to see Inukshuk dive in the pool and play.

It is a photo behind Michele.

We spent many hours in the habitat and we got to see them in different areas.

We are very happy to have come and visit the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat. And for only $16 you get to visit the habitat, the heritage village and the snowmobile museum.

The Heritage Village is very small. We do understand it is run by volunteers, but it is not in the best of shape.

The reproduction of a trapper's home in 1930.

Look at the two cowboys.

The general store.

Next, is the museum.

We are talking seriously here!

The entrance.

I feel pretty old when you remember a snowmobiles manufacturer that no longer exists.

The museum was lucky to locate this old, fast snowmobile for their collection.

Mercury made snowmobiles?

After hours of visiting, we stopped a the local and famous bakery for the best (local) Apple Fritter.

They were big and cheap, but nothing to write about.

We had a great day.

Thursday, May 12, 2022.

It is time to leave Taylor Lake RV Park (with our garbage).

We stopped in Cochrane to fill up the MH with gasoline. We paid $ 1.999 per litre. But with the Canadian Tire credit card, you get $ 0.05 back for every litre of gas you buy. So we got $11 back in CT money.

Rain, rain, pretty rain!

By the time we got to Kap, we stopped at Walmart for over one hour to let the rain diminish.

A few lakes still have ice on them.

And that creates fog in some areas.

More ice and fog.

It rained almost the whole way to Longlac.

It was a got driving day, even with the rain. We are now at Pearl and Andy's place.

Friday, May 13, 2022.

We are with them for two nights. It is good to see them again.

They have a nice little house in the village. But when the mill closed in early 2000, the housing market fell. Now with the opening of mines in the area, the housing market is going up.

Pearl and Andy are really good people.

We had a good day in their company.

Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Time to leave again.
Thank you Pearl and Andy, see you next time around.

Longlac is still frozen in some areas.

All I can think is that he tried to avoid a moose and ended up in the ditch.

As we get closer to Nipigon, along Lake Helen, cliffs are next to the lake and you can see ice hanging on the cliffs.

Beautiful Lake Helen.

Coming in Nipigon.

We filled our tank just before Nipigon, on the reserve. We paid $ 1.747 per litre while 5 kilometres further you pay $ 2.099 per litre.

Our campground for the night is the Walmart near downtown Thunder Bay. As you can see, we are not the only ones.

This is one of the shortest driving days so far.

Sunday, May 15, 2022.

Even if we only drove 100 kilometres since the last fill-up, we still top up our tank in Thunder Bay. We can drive over 900 kilometres with one tank with the MH. Our next gas stop is in Winnipeg, MB.

The rivers are very high.

He passed us a few kilometres back and he was going fast...

It keeps getting higher!

We are staying two nights near Dryden.

Our home is beautiful, but so noisy because of the highway right next to it.

Another short day on the road.

Tomorrow we will visit Dryden.

Until next time.

Life is good...
