Thursday May 16, 2019

We have a busy morning in front of us.  First stop is at Helix to pickup more batteries and a good cleaning of Michele's hearing aids.

Next, we cross the road to get to the doctor's office for our annual medical appointment.
All is good, except that my ulcer is acting up and I may need an adjustment on one of my medicine.  Nothing to worry about.

And our last stop, BioPed for Michele's orthopedics.

The new orthopedics went is the new shoes Michele got last winter.  She also bought some sandals that fit the old orthopedics. Tim also mentioned that with a prescription from the doctor, Veteran's affair would pay up to $250 towards new footwear every year. Tim filled out the paperwork that the doctor will only need to sign on our next appointment.  Thanks Tim.

What are those things on the ground? Shadows?
I am taking a picture of a muskrat eating dandelion.

There he is.

Water level is still coming up on Lake Ontario. It is a good thing we added two rows of sand bags near the cottages.

An it keeps going up.

Today being Friday of a long weekend, campers are showing up right after lunch.

The sunset on another part of the flooded RV Park.

Saturday May 18, 2019

The water level has dropped a little over night. I know a lake does not have tide, but we notice a water level variation every few hours.  It is due to the wind on Lake Ontario.

The pontoon is a little higher than the 5th wheel!

The temperature is actually nice and warm today. Time to flush the hot water tank.

Once again I am surprised at how little sediments comes out of the tank as I flush.

Even the galvanic anode is barely damaged.

This is the reason the water tank is so clean. With those two filters on the supply water hose to the MH, we do not need to change the galvanic anode or the water filter in the fridge as often as before. To top it all off, the two filter only cost about $7 total in the US. In Canada, they cost over $10 each.

It is the Welcome Wine & Cheese at the clubhouse tonight. It is for the seasonal campers, but Jannie, Patricia and Jan invited us anyway.

Jannie with a few of the volunteer serving beverages.

Before the meal, they have to elect an Activity Committee for the RV Park.

Once that was over, the stampede for the food was on!
There was a lot of food.

We had a good meal and some good beverages.

Sunday May 19, 2019

One of our "marker" for the water level is the fire ring in the water in front of the cottage.
One more inch and it will disappear.

The water level forecast for Lake Ontario is as follow, the water level is going to go up many more inches over the next few weeks.
Soon we will lose the pier.

Last evening, Jan asked for volunteer to fill more sand bags this morning.  We were ready by 10 am.
The two kobota were used to ferry people to the yard where we fill the bags. The water level is so high that the golf cart cannot make it anymore.

More than a dozen people showed up this morning.

We filled over two hundred sand bags in under 2 hours this morning.
Nice team work.

With the bags filled, the ferrying starts.

A few of us ended up delivering more sand bags to one of the camper living on an island now!

Another part of the RV Park flooded.

We had a nice day, warm and sunny.  People had smiles on there faces.

Monday May 20, 2019

Monday of a long weekend.  Campers are getting ready to leave.

The water level is still going up on the Lake.  The puddle in front of the MH is our "gauge" to know if the water level is going up or down.

It is a quiet day at the RV Park.  We do some reading, some computer and a little bit of laundry.

Tuesday May 21, 2019

Every year when we are back home, we talk to Ted about our investments.  So far, we are still doing good.

With that done, we head back home. Why not take a walk around the RV Park and check out the water level.
Still going up, slowly.

I never watched sports on TV, just not my cup of tea.
And then, we went to see some basketball games when we were south for the winter and I really liked it.
I am now hooked on basketball, specially since the Toronto Raptors are in the playoff.
I am watching the eastern playoff between the Toronto Raptors and the Milwauquee Bucks.
The Raptors won tonight.  The score is now 2 games to two games.

A day without appointments, so we stayed home.
Patricia has adopted a puppy.  The puppy is the son of her dog, Diesel.
The puppy's name is Charger.

Wiatt also adopted a puppy, his name is Beo.

Charger loves the string at the bottom of Michele's pants.

If it was not for the water level being so high, I would probably not have anything to talk about in the blog.

One of the pump has a hard time to keep up with the water seeping in under the dike.
It is 10 h 15 on this photo.

We currently have over 26 inches of water behind the dike.

With the wind blowing from the south, the waves are relentlessly hitting the dike.  It is a good thing they made the dike really strong.
It is 5 o'clock on this photo.

Surprise!  It is 5 h 20 and the rain is coming down by the buckets.

It is now 6 h 35 and the sun is shinning in all its glory!

Weird weather.

Today, I had another appointment with my family doctor. It was about my blood pressure and my sometime irregular heart beat.  Nothing to worry about.  The doctor still decided to send me to the cardiologist to make sure all is good.  All I have to do now is wait for the call to book my appointment.

Friday May 24, 2019

Michele has her first appointment with the physiotherapist for her back ache.
It went very well, Michele likes Craig, her physiotherapist.  He explained the why, the how and the fix of Michele's back ache.
Michele will have 6 more appointments with Craig before we head to Saskatchewan.

While Michele was with Craig, I got a phone call about my cardiologist appointment. A very good surprise was at the end of the line. The secretary told me there was a cancellation and she could fit me in Tuesday, June 28 @ 9 h 15!  I said SURE!

On our way back, we drove by the water and saw papa and mama swan with the babies.  One or two of them were on mama's back, but we cannot see them on the photo.

The rest of the day was easy going.

Saturday May 25, 2019

Another weird day weather wise!
Mostly rain in the afternoon, heavy at times.
So heavy that we lost satellite signal for the tv while we watched a movie, not good.  It only lasted 10 minutes, good.

When I say heavy, heavy like in buckets of water coming down.

Sunday May 26, 2019

The sun is shinning, time to do a good cleaning on the windows.

With all the rain we got over the last few days, the water level is going up.
If the Lake is going up, so does the water in the RV Park.  The site across from us is now flooded.

Lucky the dike is reinforced against the water pressure from the lake.
The pumps are working days and nights to keep the sites somewhat dry.

Monday May 27, 2019

This time of the year, the RV Park is pretty quiet during the week.
The water level does not seem to have gone up this morning, but...

It is 8 o'clock in the morning and the cone is almost dry.

It is 8:25 in the morning and the cone is in the water.

At 8:50, the cone is almost dry once again.
This is the tide I am talking about.

Michele has another appointment at the Physio this morning.
Michele's back is much better.

I had an appointment at the Dermatologist today.
I am seeing a dermatologist because of the skin problem I have when I go to the pool when I am down south for the winter.
So, the dermatologist took a very good look at my skin and simply told me that my skin was very old.  Funny guy!
The dermatologist told me that from now on I would have to make sure I shower right after going in a pool to rinse of the pool water from my body.  I will have to use a certain type of body lotion to keep my skin well protected when going in the pool.
I personally think it is because when I was young  and working in the military, we did not use any personal protection while using all kinds of chemicals on the aircraft.  At least now I know what is the problem with my skin when I go in the pool.

Tuesday May 28, 2019

To all my friends and family in Quebec who have to wait months and months to see a cardiologist.  Following my appointment with my family doctor on May 23, he recommended I see a cardiologist.  I got a call the following day from the cardiologist's secretary to book an appointment. When she asked me if I was free on Tuesday, May 28 for my appointment? I said YES!

Here is a short version of why I am seeing a cardiologist.  I am not dying anytime soon.  He is giving me some test, analysis and exams to confirm that I have no problems with my heart. I just have an irregular heartbeat every now and then. This is what I need done, an ECG, an ultrasound of my heart valves and a stress test. I now have to wait for the Diagnostic Clinic to call me and book an appointment for the ECG and ultrasound.  As for my stress test, I will do it on June 7th at the cardiologist's office, followed by the cardiologist appointment on June 19 for the results and any adjustment for my medication.  Before I left, I asked the cardiologist if I could do physical work safely, like sand bagging and carrying sand bags? He answered YES, darn!
If all is well, we will be leaving for Moose Jaw around June 20th.

Another cold front is coming through.
12° C @ 6:11 pm.

It was a good day.

Wednesday May 29, 2019

With the OK from the cardiologist, I am working this morning...  BTW, the work I do is all volunteer work.
The water level seems to be going up this morning. As Jan and I are debating if we should add more sand bags to the dike near the house, the "tide" comes in and water starts to flow around the sand bags! I think the decision has been made for us! Ten minutes later, we are done and the water level goes back down!  Go figure.

The wall/dike has over 2,600 sand bags at this time and the dike is holding back 26 inches in some area.

This is one of the two palettes we used today.

As a precaution, we also extended the other end of the dike.

The other dike, the one around one of the seasonal trailers, has broken down and water is pouring in.  Luckily the water does not touch the trailer.  Later, volunteer helped fix the dike around the trailer.

With the main dike secured. The next step is to tackle the water going across the road in front of our MH.

We are at "low tide".

I am not working very hard, the tractor is doing all the work.  We are making a small embankment to keep the water from crossing the road and flooding the sites.

OK, I made it look like I was doing some work!

We are talking about the next step.

What?
More sand bags!

The result.

With my work done for today, I went for a walk around the RV Park to check things out.  This is the flooding as of right now.

A busy day.

Thursday May 30, 2019

Jan asked Tom and me if we wanted to give him a hand today.  Sure we said.
We are driving the two kubota and carrying the dirt Jan will remove to improve two sites with a gravel driveway.

Once the dirt is removed, Jan will add a layer of gravel, 3 inches minus in diameter and a layer of 1 inch minus in diameter as a finishing layer.

After about an hour of working, one of the hydraulic lines blew on the mini-excavator.

The busted line.

Jan asked if I wanted to go to Belleville to pickup a new hydraulic hose, sure.  Michele joined me for the road trip to Belleville.
Jan is installing the new hydraulic hose.

After lunch, we are back to work.

Taking a short break.

Here I am zooming around in my Kubota loaded with dirt.
I am like a kid in the sand box with his truck.

Somewhere around 3 pm, I do a flat tire, just after I got stuck in the soft dirt at the dump site.

They sure teased me about getting stuck and the flat tire. I kind of felt bad, but when Jan told me the tire was 14 years old and that we were really loading them up with all the dirt we carried, I did not fell so badly.
Michele and I dropped off the two rear wheels at the garage for them to install new tires.  They should be ready by Monday.

The Toronto Raptors are playing the first game of the finals against the San Francisco Warriors tonight.
I watched the game we Toronto beat the Warriors.  1 to 0 for the Raptors.

I really enjoy watching Basketball.

Friday May 31, 2019

Back to work this morning, but with only one Kubota.
Like I mentioned earlier, the first step it to remove a 10 inches layer of dirt.

Followed by adding 6 inches of large gravel and then another layer of finer gravel as a finishing layer.

Why does Jan do this?  In the spring and fall, the sites can be soggy because of rain.  RVs can get stuck and destroying the site. With a driveway like this, the largest RV can park on this site without a problem.  It is solid and it does look rather nice.

Until next time.

Life is good...
