Today was the day we were leaving.
We said our goodbye to Jeremy and of course, a crazy photo!
Jeremy making faces before he left for work.
A few minutes before we left.
After a stop in Wakamow to empty the gray and black water tanks, hooked
up the car to the MH (motorhome), we finally got on the road by 8 am.
Saskatchewan is so flat!
By about noon we moved in Manitoba.
This is where I took the photo of the MH and the car for the top of our
blog.
We had to stop again and take a photo with the new MH and the car!
Manitoba was not as flat as Saskatchewan.
We were heading to Robbyn's place.
The gravel road was very dry, so we unhooked the car to save it from
all the dust.
Robbyn was still at work when we arrived.
The cat finally got her babies, all 7 of them. Here was one.
We had a good diner. After, we sat by the fake fire and enjoyed
the evening.
We will be staying until Friday morning.
Thursday September 17, 2015
I took a nice walk on the farm this morning. I played around with
the camera and the special effects you can use.
A standard photo.
And a vivid photo.
Now side by side.
Some more vivid photos.
Roadkill with her kittens.
A look that says, "I am full and I will sleep".
Another good meal with Robbyn and a great evening shooting the bull by
the fire.
Friday September 18, 2015
Robbyn was not working until 12:30, so I prepared a big breakfast for
all of us.
Robbyn enjoying the morning.
After breakfast, Robbyn took us on a tour of some of the places she
hangs out.
Here is caboose they hang out in a field.
The caboose is never locked and anybody can enjoy it, but they have to
write a little something in the "ledger".
Some of the old roads were closing in!
We are heading back to the farm.
With Robbyn now gone to work, we finished packing and hit the road.
On the by-pass road around Winnipeg, this Viper wanted to race
me!!! I let him go because I knew I would win!!!
We stopped at the same campground as when we came to Saskatchewan.
Saturday September 19, 2015
The sun was shinning, but the temperature was only +7°C in the morning.
So I did some serious reading.
We went grocery shopping for what we had forgotten the last time.
Once back, I cooked my breakfast sausages.
We still got a high of +23°C this afternoon.
We will be leaving for Ontario tomorrow morning.
Sunday September 20, 2015
Our site in Winnipeg.
We were on the road by 8 am and the sun was shinning right in our faces!
A little over an hour later, we entered Ontario.
Northern Ontario is lake and forest country.
From now on, every time we see a train, we think of Gabriel.
We have hit one heck of a pothole!!!
While traveling at 90 km/h, we saw this warning about bumps on the road.
At the same time, transport trucks coming the other way drove into the
pothole and they shook a lot!
I braked as hard as I could and BAM I hit the pothole that goes all the
way across the road and is 3 or 4 inches deep!
We were sure the motorhome was broken in two.
Damage? Only a broken glass and our cupboards were a mess.
Let me tell you, the next 5 warning about the bumps on the road were
taken at 10 km/h.
We finished the day in the village of Ignace, population, 13000 souls.
The campground was on a small lake, Lake Davy. You actually see
90% of the lake in this photo.
Who are those two lovely people?
Our site, this campground a very nice.
We spent Sunday evening watching TV.
Monday September 21, 2015
Shortly after we left we had to change our clock forward one hour.
The road is more winding, but still very nice.
Is there a leak?
A large part of our travel east of Thunder Bay was on divided highway.
30 kilometres east of TB, we had to stop for gas.
WOW! We have paid $0.92 in Winnipeg and here in TB, we are paying
$1.219! Why?
With our fuel tank full, we continued to Nipigon and Sault Ste.Marie.
What a nice road.
It is still the smallest Canadian Tire in Canada.
We are spending the night in Nipigon's Still Water shortly after lunch.
The employee was still wearing his pyjama pants!?!?!?
If you want a clean windshield, you have to clean it by hand.
Where will we be staying tomorrow night? Not sure yet.
Tuesday September 22, 2015
I did not even had the alarm clock set this morning.
We woke up at eight thirty this morning.
We left the campground by nine thirty.
We are back in mountainous terrain.
This is where you see the difference between a gas engine and a diesel
engine.
We sure do slow down compare to a diesel engine, but not as much as I
would have thought.
In the end, it makes no difference to us.
As usual, we did hit some construction.
Lake Superior.
We decided to stop in Wawa at the Wawa Resort
& Campground.
The office.
In front of the office towards the campground.
Can you see the MH?
IT is a very old campground and the sites a short. With the car
still hooked up, we are almost on the road on both ends.
Just about on the road.
When we were installed, we went for a walk in the campground.
Some very big mushrooms.
The campground is on the Magpie River.
Tomorrow we will be driving by Sault
Ste.Marie to get to Sudbury.
I now our travel will take us on some more big hills, another day of
testing the MH.
Wednesday September 23, 2015
Our site was only water and electric so we have to dump before we hit
the road.
We were back on the road by eight am.
Northern Ontario is so beautiful...
Around each curve you discover new scenery.
If you look closely at the photo, the fir trees the dew on them.
It makes them look like they have frost on them.
Every time we came to a downhill section, I would say that it was the
big hill at "Montreal River".
We finally made it to the "Montreal River" big hill...
The worst part is the sharp curve at the bottom of the hill!
We decided to stop in Spragge at the "Serpent River" campground.
You can tell it was a KOA at one time.
The campground is located on the Serpent River. It is a nice
campground.
Our home.
The owner has a stretched Westfalia.
Our site for the night.
If you look closely, you can see the train on the left of the building.
Yes, the train goes right through the campground!
Lucky for us, this was the only train we heard.
Sunset on the Serpent River.
It is a nice campground.
Thursday September 24, 2015
We have a long day ahead of us.
We were on the road before the sun was up. Very unusual for us.
Why so early?
We want to be in Milton tonight. It is west of Toronto. This way
we will be only 50 km from Michele's sister, Odette.
The first part of the drive was us driving due east. We had the
sun in our eyes for about 30 minutes.
When I use the flashers on the MH, the rear camera changes to the side
camera of the side of the flasher.
On the left photo, the left camera. It is foggy after you drive a
little while. The right camera is fine. A good thing it is
still under warranty.
For a good part of the day, we drove on divided highways.
Ain't that the truth? Not!
We are getting closer to Toronto.
We arrived in Milton by 2 pm.
It was a long drive. We do not like long drives like this, but we
are now here...
Friday September 25, 2015
We are back on the road! With the car this time.
We are driving to Mississauga where we will pick up Odette.
Alix is on holidays so we got the chance to see him too.
We had to have lunch at eh Chinese buffet.
After this good meal, we took Odette back with us to the
campground. She will be with us until Monday morning.
The two sisters will have a lot to talk about.
Saturday September 26, 2015
There was a community yard sale close to the campground. We went,
but it was mostly antique stuff.
Odette was doing some geocaching for the first time. She likes
that.
While caching, we walk a small park in Milton.
Me, working and the girls watching me work!
We had a nice campfire, propane one.
It is so nice to have Odette with us. Usually we only see each
other for a few hours at the time once a year.
Sunday September 27, 2015
We were out looking for two Thrift Shops, but both of them were closed!
On the way back, I suggested we stop and walk one of the park.
The first park we stopped was the "Country Heritage Park".
On top of that, it is open door today.
Here is the shuttle for the park.
This is the inside of a Gambrel barn. No structures in the
center. The roof is supported by the walls and the walls are
re-enforced by some steel structure.
An eight-sided barn. It houses some old farm equipment from
IH
(International Harvester). The two sisters.
A scale model and the real thing.
This is the description of the reaper above.
It looks like a race tractor.
We are still in the round barn, but in the basement.
A yellow John Deer?
What is up with that! Yes, it was the original colour. It
was for the industrial side of John Deer. It was also use for
tractor cutting grass on the side of the highways.
The Women
Institute, it was created so the farmer's wives could exchange
information and ways to do things around the home and the farm.
Over time they also push for many changes in Canadian laws like for the
school buses to have flashing light when pick-up or dropping off
children. We were dumbfounded to see how many things we take for
granted today were done by the Women Institute.
They still play a vital role in today world.
A Ford dealer between 1919 to 1953.
I do not remember seeing a Fordson tractor before!
Some old oil cans.
This is the hangar for Massey-Harris equipment.
This tractor is a no. 5311 from Sawyer-Massey. It was built in
1918 and cost $3,500. It was very expensive in 1918.
One more implement I had never seen. It is a potato sprayer used
in the field. They do not know what year it was built.
A 1910 school and you had grade 1 to 8 in the same class.
In 1910, school was a privilege, not a right.
Just a cute church.
We only had time to visit half of the park.
Tonight we are supposed to see the red moon because of the eclipse
taking place.
The sky clouded over and we did not see the blood moon.
Tomorrow morning Odette will be going back home.
Monday September 28, 2015
Here we are on our way to Mississauga to drop-off Odette.
The 401 is always slow going east to Toronto.
We even saw Onyx when we took Odette home.
We had to take a photo in the elevator!
We got back to the MH by eleven and finished our preparation for our
trip to Sherkston Shores near Niagara.
The James N Allan Bridge between Hamilton and Burlington. We are
118 feet (36 m) above the bay.
One more bridge, this one is going over the Welland Canal.
With the month of October coming soon, the Halloween decorations are
coming out.
We are almost there...
We did not have reservation, but we still got a site until November 1st.
The only issue is that we will have to move to another part of the
campground for the Thanksgiving weekend.
Tuesday September 29, 2015
The rain started yesterday evening and has not stopped yet.
Our site is under water!
We have noticed a leak under the bathroom sink.
I took everything apart
I clean everything.
I put everything back together.
Do a test.
No more leaks...
This is our site.
Darn! The bathroom sink is still leaking!!!
I will have to make a trip to Home Depot and/or to Lowes tomorrow.
Wednesday September 30, 2015
The rain has finally stopped in the middle of the night.
I had to go all the way to Niagara Falls to get to a Home Depot and
Lowes.
I got all the parts I need for the fix.
When I got back home, I put the new o-ring in place and... It
still leaks!
Off to Port Colborne for more parts.
We had to wait for the big ship to go by on the Welland Canal.
I put in a new o-ring and to make sure it will not leak again, I put
lots of silicone with the o-ring.
Will it leak again?
While in Port Colborne, I looked for some caches. I found one out
of two.
