A stay at home day today.
We remove the TV to plug in our wireless headsets. We also found
that many screws holding the TV in place are loose!
We replace them with these one.
Another good day.
The weather is on the cool side and we get some rain every now and then.
I work on the updates for the blog and Michele reads a lot.
Sunday August 2, 2015
This is a weird weather day! When you are in the shade, it is
very cool, but in the sun, very warm???
Our big thing for today was to walk across the bridge and pick some
wild blueberry.
Here is our harvest in 45 minutes. The blueberry are very small
this year.
With the help of a fan, we clean the blueberry of impurities.
A good rinse and drying time.
Yummy!
More rain during the evening, but it makes for nice rainbows.
We are leaving tomorrow morning for Thunder Bay and hopefully get our
generator fixed on Tuesday.
Monday August 3, 2015
A short day driving today.
In less than 2 hour, we arrive in Thunder Bay.
We are spending the night at the KOA in Thunder Bay.
After setting up, we go for a drive looking for the Cummins garage
where they (may) will repair the generator.
A big fish and the fisherman is on the other side of the bridge.
We found the garage easily, the doors open at 8 am. We will be
here.
Why Cummins? Simply that they are the manufacturer of Onan
generator. Not only the diesel, but even the gas or propane
generators.
Just as we got home, the rain started.
It will only last about an hour.
I use this time to work on the next blog update.
We are really hoping they will be able to fix the generator tomorrow.
Tuesday August 4, 2015
After talking to the service manager, if the repair is quick they will
work on it right away, but if it is a big job, maybe next week.
The generator mechanic had a look (and smell), the code is 58 and that
in itself is a big job. He also smelled burning, like a belt
slipping. That is a very big job.
We cannot wait here until next week, so we will get it looked at in
Regina as we drive by.
We are back on the road by 10 am.
We take highway 11 going through Fort Frances. A very nice car.
After a light lunch, I could not keep my eyes open. I had to take
a 30 minutes nap.
With the power nap behind me, we continued our travel to Nestor Falls
at the RV Park Lakeview. A really nice looking RV park, but the
mosquitoes are very bad.
The view from the front of the motorhome.
Here I am cooking some hamburger meat.
Traveling today was good.
As we are traveling, the motorhome is getting better and better fuel
consumption.
Our last fill up shows a 9.17 miles / gallons, or in metric, 30.78
liters / 100 km.
Wednesday August 5, 2015
With the change of time (-1 hour) we are up early this morning,
something like 6 am!!!
We are in no rush this morning so I look at the news.
I love the fake fireplace, it really does warm up the motorhome on
chilly morning.
Light fog this morning on Lake Caliper.
A short visit of the RV Park.
A view from the docks.
Now a view towards the lake.
The island has a cottage on it. If you look closely, you can see
something like a church steeple on the right???
We are finally on the road by 8:15.
We are slowed down a little by all the construction.
We are in the region of Lake of the Woods.
What a beautiful place.
We got to Manitoba shortly after lunch.
The road is slowly starting to flatten out, but we still see a lot of
trees.
At about 60 km from Winnipeg, the prairies are taking over.
Oh what a pleasure to be able to use cruise control!
Oupsss! The Traveller's park has changed name!
In no time, we are set-up.
We did a little shopping and once back home, the rain started.
We will stay here for two nights.
Thursday August 6, 2015
The weather is still crappy outside, so I cook y breakfast sausages
indoor.
Just to get out and about, we went downtown Winnipeg looking for thrift
Shoppes.
The legislature building. We visited the legislature 5 years ago.
Tomorrow we continue our travel west.
Friday August 7, 2015
Just as we got out of Winnipeg, we stopped for gasoline. This
Flying J has two RV lanes.
Once the motorhome is full, we continue our travel.
In a little less than two hours, we arrive near Robbyn's place.
We arrived just before she went to work.
Robbyn's family farm is located in a very beautiful area of Manitoba.
You will see many photos of the home and the area around the home.
Our motorhome in the distance.
What we see outside the motorhome.
The view from the house.
Two different views of the motorhome and farm buildings.
All the land is rented to other farmers and Robbyn does not have any
farm animals.
I always love looking inside old farm buildings, you never know what
you might see.
Like this smart way to store tools.
Robbyn is done working by about 10 isch so we have a fake fire and chat
into the night.
We are very happy to have stopped at Robbyn's place even if she is
working.
Saturday August 8, 2015
Robbyn has to go to work at 8:30 am. After breakfast, I jump on
the riding lawnmower.
This is the first time I used a lawnmower like this one. In no
time, I get the hang of it and zoom around cutting grass.
I knew there was a lot of grass to cut, but I did not realize it was
this much!
I was sitting on that lawnmower for 5:30 hours! I loved every
minute of it!
Robbyn was very impressed that I did cut all the grass.
We had a/many cold beer and talk some more.
Robbyn has some nice steaks for us tonight. We must be feeding 6
or 7 peoples with all this meat!
With our bellies full, we go out and have a nice (fake) fire.
Some time ago, this cat showed up at Robbyn's doorsteps. The cat
is very pregnant, she is very close to have the babies.
Robbyn has not giving her a name yet. Without thinking, I blurb
out "Roadkill"! Her fur looks like roadkill, why not call her
roadkill.
Robbyn is still not sure about that name!
It was a good time by the fire. Our whole stay here has been
great.
Thank you so much Robbyn.
Sunday August 9, 2015
We are leaving this morning. We have to be in Regina so we can be
at our appointment first thing Monday morning for the generator.
We wish a good day to Robbyn as she is going to work and a Good Bye.
If we can, we will stop on the way back to Ontario.
We hit the driveway by 8:30. It is a very long driveway!
Manitoba is not all flat!
A marshmallows field???
Weird looking tractor!
For some reason, there were a lot of antiques cars on the road today!
Saskatchewan, here we come!
Regina is where we will spend a few days.
Our home for a few days.
Look at that front end of the motorhome?
We must have hit a million butterflies in the last 60 minutes of
driving.
Our new home.
We cannot wait to go to the Onan dealer and get them working on the
generator. We even will have the windshield looked at the same
time.
Monday August 10, 2015
I am emptying the gray and black water before we leave for the Cummins
garage.
By seven-ten, we are on the road to Cummins.
We got there before the employees, but that is OK. We have an
appointment, but still, we want to be first in line.
The mechanic works outside to diagnose the problem.
We left him alone and went out for breakfast at A&W.
The generator's problem is the exhaust temperature is too high and it
shuts down.
To continue the troubleshooting they have to take the generator out of
the motorhome.
While they work on the generator, the technician for the windshield
came
to have a look. He can fix it here, but it would be easier at the
shop.
As the technician for the windshield was starting to work, the
mechanic came and told us the coil for one of the cylinder was
not working. They have to order parts and they will not be here
until late tomorrow afternoon. No problems for us, we will go
back to the campground for two nights.
The windshield technician asked if we could go to his shop to finish
the
repair job on the windshield, sure!
Here we are at the glass repair shop.
We are finally out of the glass repair shop by three and we head
directly
to the campground.
Tuesday August 11, 2015
This time we took a 50 amps site because it is still very hot in
Regina. It is +39 with the humidex.
Yesterday we bought a chair/ladder bracket for the ladder in the back
of the motorhome.
The ladder is in the shade so I start to install it. Shoot!
I am missing some parts! Michele is gone with the car.
The place we bought it is a little over a kilometres down the
road. It is hot, but I decide to walk there anyway.
It was near 3 km there and back and it was hot!
I finished the installation of the bracket.
The result.
Michele comes back from shopping with a new printer, ours is dead.
It is so nice to have 50 amps site, now we can run both AC and the
motorhome is finally cooling off.
Wednesday August 12, 2015
We left the campground at around ten thirty and went to the Cummins
garage to wait for the repair to be done and the installation of the
generator back onto the motorhome.
Across the street is a refinery and it is expanding, what no Greenpeace
people here? Good!
The service manager offered us an upgrade on the generator, this one!
I don't think so!
The motorhome with is back end up in the air to receive the generator.
It is really in there!
It was such a pleasure to deal with competent people.
Goodbye Cummins of Regina, even with good service, we hope not to have
to come back here again.
I forgot how many old, nice cars around western Canada.
One more weird creature on the road!
If you look closely to the trees, you can see many white spots.
They are pieris rapae or cabbage butterfly.
There are thousand and thousand of them.
Moose Jaw, here we come.
It does not happen very often that we set up late like today. It is
late
for us, 5 pm. We are tired, the site is very narrow and it is not
going well. I cut my thumb while cutting branches. We
manage to get it right.
We should be here for a month.
My oh my, so many mosquitoes here.
Thursday August 13, 2015
Shoot, not photos for today!
It is another hat and muggy day at +38.
I have to get all the clothes and toys for Gabriel from the
basement. I take this opportunity to rearrange the basement one
more time.
I m going to have a nice yard sale soon!
Friday August 14, 2015
We spend the afternoon at Jeremy's place to do some laundry.
I still revisit some of parts of the basement and really think if I
need this or that.
I forgot, yesterday we met other campers in the campground and they
have a motorhome from the same manufacturer as ours.
I had many question for him regarding the engine RPM and how it
handled on the road.
It turns out our motorhome is behaving like his. I have to get
use to the high RPM.
Both of them are pilots and at one time he was a pilot for the
military,
but switch to ATC a short time after.
They are very nice people. We hope our path will cross again.
Saturday August 15, 2015
Something is going on across the street from the campground.
It is a bike for a cure for the multiple sclerosis society.
Today is the 100 km ride.
With all the bikers gone, I went back to our site.
This site is very tight.
The backyard.
I continue my clean up and this time it is the small drawers in the
basement that get it.
I finally found my pruning pliers and did a big cleanup of the bushes
by the motorhome.
It was a busy and hot day. By five pm, the weather turned
cool. In less than 2 hours, we dropped 10°C to +20°C by six pm.
