Friday March 16, 2018

No bike ride this morning.  We are both struggling with our cold and sore throat.
We stayed home and even did some laundry at the Washateria.

Saturday March 17, 2018

Back on the bike this morning.  It is still very humid today.
I was out for 11.7 km.
As you can see, I always stick to the same roads.  The only reason for that is that there are no bike path here.
I have to ride on the sidewalk.  It is not so bad !

Right next to the RV Park, all the old houses are being demolished.

Michele is feeling better and she is out to do some window shopping.
I take this time to change the male plug on the MH.
The sheath of the cable at the plug was separating and exposing all the wires to the elements.
Time to fix that!

The new 50 amp. plug.

It is done.
This plug is not water proof, but later, I will get some sealant and make it as water proof as it can be.

The rest of the day was spent on reading, TV and whatever!

Sunday March 18, 2018

I am out by myself this morning to go back and look at a cache we did not find  because we could not make it to the cache.
Michele is sleeping in ;-)

The cache is supposed to be in this bush or near it.
The last time it was found was almost a year ago.
This area was covered in water when hurricane Harvey came last August.
I think it got blown away or the big waves moved it.
I cannot find it.

Michèle having fun!

Monday March 19, 2018

Another bike ride this morning, this time I will be looking for a geocaching cache.
This cache is in the middle of the Oso Bay Bridge.

Going up.

In the middle of the bridge you can see Corpus Christi.

And looking the other way, Flour Bluff.

I had no luck finding this cache.

On my way back home, a bird pooped on me!  This is the second time this winter!

I did a nice 14.6 km.

Michele and I decided to do more geocaching this afternoon.  This time, along the beach with our bikes near the Bay of Corpus Christi.
We are looking for caches too!
A mermaid on a wave.

On our way to C.C.

In one of the park along the way, there was some cute statues for kids.

One of the caches was located near the "Surfing Jesus".
We did not find it!

A nice 9.1 km bike ride this afternoon.

When the awning is open, some of the small branches rub on it.  I cut the offending branches!

We had a good day.  It was very hot today with 32°C and with the humidity at 100%.

Tuesday March 20, 2018

A stay at home day for the both of us.
Well kind of, Michele went to the Goodwill store and me, I worked on the next blog update.

Wednesday March 21, 2018

A big day with lots of photos.  It is a geocaching day.
We will try to find all the caches on our way to Port Aransas.  The red arrow points to where we live and Port Aransas is at the top right hand corner.

A fake sand castle and it is a beach/souvenir store too!

Some caches are easy to find while some are inaccessible because of too much water in the ditches.

A message to hurricane Harvey.

One cache is located on the beach.  What?  Snakes?

It is a very nice day and the breeze is just cool enough.

the cache was hidden under a ramp, we made sure there was no snakes first.

The two of us!

We can still see some of the damage Harvey did to some houses.  All the roof are covered with tarps until they can be repaired.

No damages here.

Except a sail boat blown to the other side of the road.

This fence has quite the story.
Deno Fabrie's brightly decorated fence was a landmark of sorts here in Port Aransas. When hurricane Harvey struck in August 2017, the fence was destroyed. No worries though! His friends joined together in January 2018 to redecorate his new fence for the rest of us to enjoy.

And the cache!

We treat ourselves with two hot dogs and a taquera for only two dollars!

This is the first time we see some drilling platforms in Port Aransas.

In the middle of Port Aransas, there is a small conservation area with a pond.  A cache is here.
Harvey did a lot of damage to the conservation area.

He can see a fish.

Quick!

A full belly now!

One of the caches is hidden in the courtyard of the apartment complex.
Again, some reference to hurricane Harvey.  I am sitting with my new friends.

A weird looking ship!

During World War II, German submarines were rumored to be patrolling the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. In order to protect local oil reserves, two large 155 mm cannons were placed atop the dunes in Port Aransas to guard against the subs entering the Corpus Christi ship channel. The ruins of these gun placements, including the rails upon which they rotated, are still visible today.
The cache is way up there.

The view from one of the gun placement.

Can you see our red car?
The buildings behind the car are the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.  It was heavily  damaged by hurricane Harvey.  They are rebuilding it now.

Michele fell while looking for our first cache this morning (she is OK) and when she saw the trail to get to the cache, she decided not to come looking for this one.  Can you see me way out there?

Here is the cache.  I could not open it, the lid was screwed on too tight.

Another view of the drilling platforms.

We ended the day with a long drive on the beach.

To get back home, we take another route.  We had to take the ferry.

They are very big.

We had a good day geocaching.  We found 20 and did not find 3 of them.

Thursday march 22, 2018

Another 13.6 km on the bike for me today.  There was a very strong headwind for the last 6 km.

Easy day and a little groceries shopping in the afternoon.

Friday March 23, 2018

No bike for me today, taking a "bike" break.

In the afternoon we went to check out an indoor flea market.
More than half the stores were closed.  This is not our type of flea markets.

Of course, we had to check out a few thrift shops before we came home.

A good day.

Saturday March 24, 2018

It is hot and humid today (27°C), but I still went for my bike ride.
After 13 km, I came back soaked from the workout and the high humidity.
A day of reading, internet and TV.

Sunday March 25, 2018

Another 13 km today.

Jeremy sent us a link to check out this morning.
Here what it is all about.

#8A, Master Corporal Jeremy Matte from Baden-Baden, Germany is our Lead Aviation Systems Technician (AVN) for the 2018 show season. As Lead AVN, he is responsible as our expert, for the maintenance of aviation systems including propulsion, airframe, basic electrical, and their related components of our CT-114 Tutor aircraft. MCpl Matte was posted to 431 Squadron – The Snowbirds in 2013, and he is looking forward to a 4th air demonstration season with the team.

Congratulations Jeremy, we are very proud of you!

Michele is not feeling 100% today, so decided to stay home while I go and visit the South Texas Botanical Gardens.
The gardens are close to our RV Park.

This weekend they have a temporary exhibit of orchids.
They are very beautiful.  Here are some of them.

There was a volunteer present and she answered all our questions.  It is obvious she loves orchids.  She gave very simple explanations and made it fun.  She was not talking over our heads.
The nickname for this orchid is the dancing lady.

Here is why, imagine a dancing lady with a nice hat and dress.  # 1 is like a hat or her hair.  # 2, could be her face/head.  # 3, the sleeve of her dress.  # 4, the body of the dancer and # 5, her skirt as she turns in circle.
Now go back and look again at the previous photo.

A small section with reptiles.

We had a talk about parrots.  Very interesting.

There was more parrots outside.  I did sing a song in French and Tequila did dance for me.

They never move!

In one of the greenhouse I saw this little guy.

The botanical gardens has a few nature trails too.

What is that ???

Today they have a giant Easter Egg Hunt.  All the dots you see on the grass are eggs...

I really enjoyed my visit at the Botanical Gardens,  I wished Michele had been with me.

Monday March 26, 2018

No bike ride for me today or for the next few days.
Lets just say that the heat, humidity and sweat are not good for some area of the body!!!

As I said, it is hot and humid, so humid that in the afternoon we tend to stay indoor.

We always try to keep our fresh water tank full even when we have running water
We do this because if they ever have to shut off water in the park, we are OK for 4 days with water.  Also, if we were to have to move in a hurry because of bad weather, we could be self sufficient for a while.  A full fresh water tank has less chance of becoming bad if it is full rather them empty or half empty.  So based on none scientific data, every few weeks we use the water from the tank and replace it when empty.  This way we always have fresh water on board.
Today we have used all the fresh water from our tank, it is time to refill it.

A day of reading, finishing our blog update and just being happy.

Tuesday March 27, 2018

While I was having breakfast, I noticed that the birds were collecting dead grass to build nests.
Hummm!  Last year when the same thing happen, they were building nest under the slide, under the floor.
I check it out and sure enough, they are building nests under the floor.  I stuffed some rags to block the entrance under the slides.

Another hot and humid day, actually the heat is a little oppressing.

Wednesday March 28, 2018

Our DVD recorder is no longer working.  Remember, it was made to be used in a house, not in a house that goes down the road at 100 km/h.  So after 8 years, it died, but the TV is still working.

Another quiet day at home.

Thursday March 29, 2018

We have a busy day today.
We will be visiting the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi.

At the top of the Port Bridge we can see the USS Lexington.  We visited the aircraft carrier a few years back.
And a view to the north.  The water you see is not the Gulf of Mexico, but the Corpus Christi Bay.

Here we are.

It is a big bridge.

The aquarium.

A whale outside of the aquarium?

We think the price of admission is a little steep at $32 per person.  Oh well, not much is cheap anymore,we will see.

The first section we see is the Caribbean Journey.
It is always interesting to see the above water and the under water at the same time.

Got to have pink flamingo.

And some pink Ibis too!  We did not know they existed.

We are on the second floor of the journey and we can see a big aquarium.

Included in the price is two movies 4D.
The two movies are; Ice age: no time for nuts! and the BBC's SHARK!
We really liked them.

The big aquarium we were looking at from the top, well, here it is.
It is just beautiful!

There is a presentation with the divers in the big aquarium.  It was explained what it takes to keep an aquarium clean.
The diver is basically an underwater janitor!

More photos of our visit.

That little snake is part of a lager group!

The dolphins we will see later in a show.

A kid dream, run with dolphins!

Jellyfish.

Michele inside a shark cage and me with a great white shark.

Help!

More photos.

Baby alligators and other fish.

A part of the aquarium is outside.  The Alligator.

The dauphin's show.

City center on the left, the Port Bridge and the aquarium on the right.

We are really close to the USS Lexington.

Another show, this time about birds.
The bird is just above the lady with the phone.

We spent more than three hours in the aquarium.  We think we got our moneys wort with the two 4D movies, the shows we saw today.  We recommend this aquarium.

Our friends Nicole and Marcel left Mission to go to Magnolia Beach today.  I think we will meet them on Monday if all goes well"

I forgot, last night we had one big, severe thunderstorm here.  I slept almost all of it!
But tis morning when I opened the blind on the driver side window, there was water on the window sill.
I think we will have to do some research in the next few days.

Friday March 30, 2018

A nice bike ride of 13. 75 km for me this morning.

In the afternoon, we went for a walk on the beach near the RV Park where we are, about 16 km away from us.

The Nieces County Park is a no permit beach parking.  A beach parking permit cost $12 a day anywhere else.

It cost $3 p.p. for access to the fishing pier.  We did not go.

Our walk on the beach.

The tide is coming in and this fisherman got caught by a big wave.  We are on the Gulf of Mexico here.

Today we received our order from Amazon.
I have to take reactine everyday and in Canada if we pay $0.33 per pills, we are very happy.  With Amazon, we paid $0.09 per pills.
Got to love Amazon.com.

Another good day.

Saturday march 31, 2018

After talking about it, we will be moving from Corpus Christi to Magnolia Beach on Monday to join Nicole and Marcel.

We looked for the leak on the driver side window.  This is where the water was.

With Michele on the inside looking for the leak and me on the outside with the water hose we looked for the leak.
I found a short span of sealant damaged and allowing water to get behind the window frame.  I could not get sealant because all the RV stores are closed because of Easter Friday!

I must have said that I wanted to eat a good steak at a steak house for over a year.
Tonight I will at the Saltgrass Steak House of Corpus Christi.

This is the first time at this restaurant's franchise.  The atmosphere is nice and the servers seems happy to work here.

I took the Pat's Ribeye 12 oz and Michele had the Brisket Burger.  It was good.

We got back home with a belly full.

Until next time.

Life is good...
