1 to 15 March 2018   16 to 31 March 2018

Thursday March 1, 2018

Yesterday on our way back from the museum, we saw an advertisement for 10 lbs of chicken for only $3.90 or $039 per pound.
Today we went back and bought some chicken.

What we do with this 10 pound of chicken is to cook it all and de-boned it and put it in one pound bag and freeze them.
There are 12 pieces like these one in the pack.

Humm, does it look good or what?

Another hot day at 31°C.

Friday March 2, 2018

I biked another 14 km this morning.

I went for the traditional "tea" at 4 pm with the neighbors.  We are in someone driveway when suddenly Tom, the owner of the driveway, comes back home!!!
Tom is not even surprised to see people having "tea" in is driveway.  We just moved out of the way so he could park his van in his driveway.

The Mexicans are burning their sugar cane fields and with the wind coming from Mexico, we have a lot of ash being blown around.
The black stuff on the table is ash from the sugar canes being burned.

The other day we bought two frozen sandwich for one dollar each.  Tonight we try them.
We zap then for a few minutes in the microwave and then tasted them.  Not bad for a buck.  It is not a gourmet menu, but it is OK.  Only good for emergencies.

One more good day.

Saturday March 3, 2018

A few weeks back, Nicole and Marcel invited us to join them to go attend a presentation of the groupe "Grupo Folcklorico "Tabasco"" and the "Mariachi "Los Coyotes"" at the La Joya High School  in La Joya.  The school has about 2,500 students.

For a high school, they sure do have a nice performing art center!

Our friends joining us.

Before the presentation, they have some entertainment outside the performing art center.

Some local salespeople.

Marcel and Nicole as dancers.

We are dancers too!

A group of junior dancers.

This is the performing art center of the La Joya High School.  It is a very nice performing art center.
Our friends are sitting where the arrow is, but we chose to sit in the middle of the balcony for a better view.

The Grupo Folcklorico Tabasco.

The Mariachi Los Coyotes.  Both groups are from the La Joya High School.

They are very good and colorful.

Us at the intermission.

The show continues on!

What a beautifully presentation.  If you have the chance to see it, go!

After the show, we all went to Nicole and Marcel's place for cocktail before supper.
They are all Quebecers and it a lot of fun to be here, they are very nice.

We went to Mambo seafood.

This is our first time here and it looks like a cafeteria!!!

It was kind of funny to be with all francophone.  They had to decipher the menu, we helped them of course...

Michele chose Fried fish with shrimps and Mambo rice while I had the grilled Tilapia with fries.

We had to wait a little while, but the food was OK!

Sunday March 4, 2018

A quiet day!
It is also laundry day.

We are leaving Alamo next Thursday and we don't know yet where we will be going.
Should we stay another month in the Valley or move to Corpus Christi?
We should decide by Monday or Tuesday.

Monday March 5, 2018

I am out for a bike ride this morning.
I did 13.75 km and just as I was coming back home, a bird pooped on me!

During the afternoon we made a list of possible RV Park to call in Corpus Christi.
On the second call we got lucky and found a site for us.  It is hard to get a site in Corpus Christi at this time of the year because it is Spring Break in the U.S.
We will be camping at the Shady grove RV Park in Corpus Christi for a month.

Tuesday March 6, 2018

Last Tuesday in the Valley.  One last time in a few stores, the first one is Academy Sports for shoes for Michele.

She did not find the right one!

in many shopping center in the Valley, you have those mobile police watchtower with all the flashing lights like a police car.
my questions is, is there anybody in the watchtower?  I guess it is more a deterrent.

Next stop is the 99 cent store.  There is not much left at 99 cent in there!

After all this shopping, we stopped at Lin's Chinese Buffet for lunch.

Michele with her Wonton soup.  We can see my crawfish.  I love them.  I had 4 big plates of them.

After that good meal, we headed back home.

Wednesday March 7, 2018

Yesterday we got a call from tropic Winds to let us know that our picture had arrived and we could pick them up any time.

So this morning we are going to pick it up.

With our picture in our hands, we have breakfast at McDonald.
We know that the food is not the greatest, but we like it every now and then.
Our classic breakfast was not very good this time!

It is spring here and love is in the air.  The birds are signing, looking for love.  They sign all the time and loud too.

Thursday March 8, 2018

Time to leave the Valley.
We are heading to Corpus Christi.

Hooking up the car to the MH.

Goodbye Alamo Palms.

25 kilometers later we stopped for gas.  This is the first time we fill up since November 6th and with the Flying J card, we save $0.06 per gallons.

We had to go through a border patrol checkpoint.  No drugs or illegal immigrant with us.

We leave highway 281 to take highway 77 which will take is to Corpus Christi.

The palm trees are blooming and God is good!

Getting closer.

Michele has a sore throat and is not feeling very good, so this morning she took some Nyquil Extreme to help her.
I did not know that.
The whole trip she is sleeping and drowsy.  When she mentioned that she had taken Nyquil I understood why she was like that.

Michel woke up around noon and suggested we have Subway for lunch.  Lo and behold, 500 meters later, we saw a Subway store!

When the highway speed limit is 75 M/PH and the exit has a tight radius, you need BIG signs to tell you to slow down!

After about three hours and half, we made it to Shady grove R.V. Park.

Once we were installed, we did not do much for the rest of the day.

Friday March 9, 2018

Michele still has  sore throat, but she can eat no problems.  I made her a big breakfast.

We got up early to watch the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Paralympics games.

We decided to go to the information center of C.C. (Corpus Christi).
We took the back roads to check out the city.
I did not know if this building is like that because of hurricane Harvey or it was like that before the hurricane.

A sand sculpture?

We stopped by the local H-E-B to check it out.
Why does she show us those four bowls?
Since the winter 2011/2012, Michele wanted bowls like that, but I always asked why, do we need them?
She finally bought them, why?  Why not!

Tomorrow will be a beach day.

Saturday March 10, 2018

I start the day with a bike ride in our neighborhood.  I biked 12 km.
The John. F. Kennedy bridge to Padre Island, it is 7.24 km long.

Back home, I noticed our neighbor getting ready to leave.  He took is sewer hose to the dumpster.  I asked him if it was defective and he said no, he just did not carry sewer hose in his trailer.  He buys them new at every place he goes!!!
As soon as he is gone, I check out the dumpster and the sewer hose is sitting right on to and it is like new.  They cost about $40 at Walmart.  I took it home and used it right away.

After lunch, we head to the beach.  The J.F. Kennedy bridge.

We are getting closer!

Here we are at Mustang Island State Park.

Busy fishermen.

The beach is busier then normal as it is the spring break in the U.S.
The water is nice, but I forgot my bathing suit.

Michele almost fell on her back taking this photo!

The beach is busy.

Some people are well equipped.

On our way back, we stopped at a beach store.
Help!

It is 29°C today.

Sunday March 11, 2018

Another bike ride this morning, this time for 14 km.

The Oso Bay Bridge on the way to C.C.

The neighborhood where we are is called Flour Bluff.
What a weird name!  Here is the reason why, click here to find out.

Our site is located close to a busy road.

One of the street in the R.V.Park.

Another hat day (30C).
I keep busy by working on the next update of the blog.

Monday March 12, 2018

It is on the cool side today, so we decided to go and find some caches.
The first one we go to, we did not find it!
All we found was the broken container on the ground and no log.
We replaced the container and added a new log.

We are right next to the "Laguna Madre".
The Laguna Madre is a long, shallow, hypersaline lagoon along the western coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Nueces, Kenedy, Kleberg, Willacy and Cameron Counties in Texas, United States.

Another cache is located near this fishing pier.  The fishing pier is now closed, thanks to hurricane Harvey.

At another cache, a very small scorpion moved out of the way of the cache.  He is only an inch long.

A series of caches took us to a neighborhood with all Canadian names on the streets.

We found 12 caches today.

The chef at work.

Well, checking out traffic on the road.

A good day.

Tuesday March 13, 2018

A tour of our RV Park.
This is the "good street" where most of the RV are nice.

But half of the RV/mobile homes are not so good!
Some are from FEMA.
This trailer is a FEMA trailer.  They are built quickly and cheaply to help people without a home.  They were never intended to last for years like this one.

They replaced the windows with windows AC and they used plywood from the inside to seal the opening around the AC!!!
If it rains, the rain will go inside the RV.

The street of "permanent" residents.  We are talking about locals here.

A mobile home falling apart with people still living in it!
They had to screw a 2X6 on the wall near the roof and use 4X4 post to support the roof!
WOW!

It is not the best RV Park, it is good for a week or even a month, but no more.

Wednesday March 14, 2018

I am out for another bike ride this morning.
There are many drainage ditch around C.C. to help move the rain water back to the bay.
The arrow shows some black stuff in the water.

It was thousand's of minnows in the water!

Me and my stallion.

Michele was kind enough to share her sore throat with me.
After 10.3 km biking and a sore throat, I needed a nap.

Both of us are coughing and have a sore throat.  Life is not as good right now...

Thursday March 15, 2018

Even if I have a sore throat, I am still back on the bike this morning.  Maybe it will help me get rid of it!!!
Here is what I saw on my bike ride this morning.
Do they fix outboard motor?  RV's?  Cars? or they are simply collecting junk!

Even if it is only 21°C, the humidity is very high, like 98%.
I did cover 14.4 km on my bike this morning.

For the afternoon, we are off to Padre Island to look for some caches this afternoon.

The first one is in a post.  It is inside a bullet casing.

We are never more than a foot above water level here.

One cache is this fake blanking plate for an electrical box.

Another cache was at this submarine!
It was bought on E-Bay!

Look at the ants coming out of this post!

In this neighborhood, almost all the houses are on the water canal.

We found 8 caches today.

Until next time.

Life is good...
