Brrrr! It was cold last night.
This cold front will be with us for another few days. At noon it was just 2°C and at 2 pm it was only 1°C.
Michele and I are still sick.
With the high humidity we had to try and control the humidity indoor.
I took out our two de-humidifiers. The first one is small and
need to be filled up. The white stuff absorb the humidity and
when it turns into water, it falls in the container below. This
one is in the living room/kitchen area.
The other one is self-contain. It basically does the same thing. This one is in our bedroom.
We are both TVed out. I finished our 2017 blog and start the
2018. Michele was reading in the back all wrapped up in a blanket.
Tuesday January 2, 2018
We are still in the cold weather.
This was the maximum we had today and it rained all day.
I feel a little better today, but Michele is not feeling any better.
We stayed indoor all day.
Wednesday January 3, 2018
We were under a frost warning last night.
What is that bright thing in the sky?
We should hit +10°C today.
I feel much better today so I went for breakfast this morning.
I tried this place and it was just OK, nothing special.
It was so nice to finally see some blue sky.
The forecast for the next week. We should be out of the cold soon.
Here I was listening to TV and fixing supper.
We must feel better, we went to bingo tonight.
Thursday January 4, 2018
A nice sunrise.
But there was frost on the ground. The grass is white from frost.
Even the car has some white on it! It went down to -1°C last night, but it should go up to 18°C today.
I found a recipe for making bread in a crock-pot in one of the local newspaper.
I am going to try it.
After about two and half hours...
It does not look too bad...
Hummmmm!
Not good at all!
After lunch, we went out to do some geocaching. This one was a different.
A micro cache, it is the small point at the end of the arrow.
Another cache was near the bridge over the irrigation canal.
We found 18 caches today. It felt good to be moving around after our cold and lack of sun.
Friday January 5, 2018
Another day caching for us today.
Here I am coming back from a cache me and Michele found.
The Rio Grande Valley is on the migration route for the butterfly.
There are many sculptures of butterflies around Mission.
Yep, some time we even repair some caches that need it.
Three zebu.
You always have to be careful around the fire ants nest.
That was a nice cache, we read the instructions on how to open it, but we still could not get in to sign the log.
We found 11 caches and a few we did not.
Once we got home, Michele went inside to read and I went to the Tiki Hut to listen to music.
Saturday January 6, 2018
Now that we feel better and our taste buds are working again, we went to lunch at Lin's Grand Buffet.
Very nice place.
They had crawfish! I ate a lot of them!
This is the best Chinese restaurant we have ever been to.
The food was tasty and hot.
When we got back home, I started to pack the outside stuff for our travel Monday morning.
Sunday January 7, 2018
Our last day here at Blue Bonnet, tomorrow we will be heading to Harlingen for the next month.
I went out and got some oranges before we leave. A few hours
later I had one orange and it tasted bad. I tried them all and
all were bad.
I think the cold weather affected them.
We treated ourselves with a Half and Half pizza for supper.
With some cheap red wine, we do have class!
I finished packing the outside stuff.
Monday January 8, 2018
Time to move. We are only moving 80 km down the road to our next
RV Park.
Our new home will be at Tropic Winds in the city or Harlingen. We
are still in the Rio Grande Valley.
This RV Park belongs to the corporation "Encore". Encore has 10
RV Parks in the Valley.
After we registered, we carried on to our site and set up. Photos
of our site and the park in the next few days.
A little later in the day we skyped with our youngest son,
Benoit. We love skyping with our sons.
We toured the park on our bikes and did some reading.
Tuesday January 9, 2018
Our "new" home for the month. This park has 637 sites and it is
not the biggest in the valley. It is almost full.
We stopped by the activity director's office to learn what are all the
activities in this park. Lets just say that if you are bored, it
is because you want to be bored.
It is bingo night tonight. Just before we left, we had this
beautiful sky to look at.
Here too they have electronic bingo. They are very well
organized. No winnings for us tonight.
The people in the park are very nice.
Wednesday January 10, 2018
They have the "Park Meeting" this morning. Of course to attract
people, they have coffee and donuts, but not free.
We took a little tour of the area and found this big Thrift Shop.
We had to stop.
Thursday January 11, 2018
We are under a strong winds warning starting this afternoon until
tomorrow at noon.
But this morning it is nice and I went for a bike ride in the park.
This is the "bird park" where dogs are not allowed.
There is an RV Show in Mercedes and decided to go and check it out.
We know that right now the hospital in Quebec are running at 200%
because of the flu season, but here the wait time at the ER is only 5
minutes.
We are at the RGV Livestock Showground of Mercedes for the "All Valley
RV Show and Outdoor Show".
My pretty Michele.
We are very disappointed by this RV Show. In less that 45 minutes
we were done, in the car, going to a restaurant.
Since we loved our experience at the restaurant Lin's last week in
McAllen, we decided to try the one in Weslaco.
This Lin's is just as good as the one in McAllen. Food is good
and tasty.
Cowboy boots in town.
There is a lot of smoke in the air. It comes from the sugar
fields being burnt before harvesting.
On our way back, we stopped at this small place so Michele could get a
haircut. She is very happy with the results.
Tonight they have the "Welcome Home" diner offered by the Encore
corporation.
We are at the second serving and they have served over 600 meals.
The food was prepared in the small kitchen in the hall.
The meal was meat loaf, mash potatoes, green beans and dessert.
The service was fast and the price was good to, free.
The wind did pick up in the afternoon and it is a strong wind.
Some of the wind gust were around 85 km/h and it was hitting the MH the
wrong way. One slide's awning was making a lot of noise. We
were even losing reception on the tv because the dish was being moved
by the wind. We actually had to close the slide for the night
because of the noise and shaking.
It still was a good day.
Friday January 12, 2018
Boy, the MH shook because of the wind last night.
We did not do mush today.
We did have a fish fry at the club house for diner.
For $5 we ate very good.
After the meal, just before we left, one of the cook came by and gave
me some extra fried fish.
He must think I am cute and nice!!!
Saturday January 13, 2018
They have a breakfast for $5 at the club house this morning.
Hummmm! Not that good for me. I am not a fan of biscuits
and gravy.
I do not think I will come back for breakfast again. Michele made
the right choice when she stayed in bed.
After breakfast, there was an information session about the Thousand Trails
membership club.
It is interesting, I made an appointment for Tuesday to get more
information, than I will give you more info too.
A quiet afternoon at home.
Sunday January 14, 2018
Brrrr! It went down to +5°C last night.
While we were biking, we saw this rabbit, look at his ears!
We made it to the pool today.
So far we really like this park.
Monday January 15, 2018
Just before lunch, Michele wanted to go to the Texas Thrift Shop and I
wanted to g to the Winter Texan Appreciation Day Fiesta here in
Harlingen. Michele is not interested in the Fiesta, so I left her
at the Thrift Shop and I went to the Fiesta.
Why a Winter Texan Fiesta? Winter Texan are the people from
"north" who comes down in the Valley for the winter. Snowbirds
are the one going to Florida, same thing, but compare to Florida, the
Winter Texan are much more appreciated here then in Florida. That
is from personal experience.
Back to the Fiesta. It was all about small booth advertising the
local business. It was geared towards the people over 70 years
old.
Not much for discount for restaurants or other business place. There was a lot of "older" people here.
They have a Show and Shine outside the fiesta. Here are a few of them.
WOW! The Harlingen Police Department sure has some nice cop cars!
The wind picked up and it is still warm, but the temperature will be
dropping overnight. It will drop to -1°C. That cold front
will be with us until Thursday or Friday.
Our propane tank still has propane in it, but with the cold temperature coming our way, I decided to get it filled.
It is so nice to be able to get our propane tank filled without having
to move the MH. In many States and Canada you cannot get the MH
propane tank filled on your site, but here in the Valley, you can.
