Friday February 16, 2018

We did not do much today.  We enjoyed the pool, the Olympics and the warm weather.

Saturday February 17, 2018

It is so nice and hot outside!
Pool, Olympics and just enjoying the warm weather.
I forgot, every day at around 4 pm, there is a get-together for tea (or whatever) for everyone from the street at one of the resident.
They are very nice people.

Sunday February 18, 2018

A day like yesterday, almost!  We made a quick visit at the Mercadome flea market to pick up a driver side headlight for our car.  Our has moisture inside.  I will change it in the next few days.

It is 32°C and the pool is at 29°C.  Nice!

The winds has been blowing pretty hard today.  Up to 70km/h at times.

Monday February 19, 2018

Even if it is hot, I decided to change the R/H front headlight.  It is no longer sealed and water is getting inside.

The new headlight that we bought at the flea market.  It is a new one.

There are only two bolts to remove to remove the headlight.

The new headlight comes with the support frame.  We do not need to change the support frame.
There is only one connector to disconnect and the headlight is removed.

Here it is, the new headlight installed.  It took me 10 minutes to change it.

We always think it is weird to see a cactus growing on a roof!

Another nice day.

Tuesday February 20, 2018

Today we are going to Nuovo Progreso, Mexico with our friends Nicole and Marcel.

We meet at the parking lot next to the border.

Nicole and Marcel have been to Mexico before, but never here at Nuovo Progreso.  We walk from stores to stores.

We have lunch at La Cucina Della Noni.  A loose translation would be , "The oven in the kitchen".

The inside is nice, notice the system to remove the smoke from oven.  Homemade?

Michele with Nicole and Marcel.  We ate pizza and they were good.

After our meal, we continued shopping.

On our way back home, there was a lot of smoke on one part of the road.
It comes from Mexico where they are burning the sugar canes before harvesting them.  The wind is blowing the smoke into the U.S.

Another nice day with friends.

Wednesday February 21, 2018

Just like last Wednesday, we are back at the Mercadome flea market.

Our friend Robbyn found some photos from the past and sent them to us.  I believe they were taken around 2005.
It sure brought back good memories.
Me, Michele and Kadin.

Sean and Kadin trying to get the squirrel.

Jeremy and Sean thinking about a plan to get the squirrel.

Myself cooking some "Matte'muffin" for breakfast.

Nice souvenir, thanks Robbyn!

We have been waiting for the final ladies hockey game between the U.S. and Canada.  The game started at around 10:10 pm.
Sadly, Canada lost 2 to 1 in the shoot out.

Today we had rain and a drop in temperature.

Thursday February 22, 2018

Brrr!  it was only 12°C last night.
We have cloudy skies all day and made it to 18°C today.
Our friends Nicole and Marcel invited us to go with them at the La Joya High School Mariachi show on March 3.

We are really looking forward to this show!

Friday February 23, 2018

And we are back to hot temperatures (31°C).
We are starting to have small problems with our car electric windows and mirrors.
Off to the scrape yard to buy the switched for both.
The two scrape yards we have been to.

R & R has one module for only $35.

I try it on.  No!  Same problems.  I guess we will live with this little problem a little longer!

Once back home, we are back to reading, pool and visiting with the neighbors.

A good day.

Saturday February 24, 2018

There is RC Racing today at the park.  I am checking it out.
I was watching a man doing some crawling with a jeep when our neighbor Bob came along and offered me to try his Jeep on the crawl course.  For about 15 minutes I "crawled" all the tracks available with Bob's Jeep.  I really enjoyed that, thanks Bob.

I watched the races and I think I could get into that too!  Maybe when we will be seasonal I can get into it.

Many people at the park have recommended this place for a nice meal.  It is "The Original Willies Bar-B-Q".

The specialties are Stuffed Baked potato with butter, sour cream, chives, bacon bits, chopped beef and cheese.  The other specialty is the brisket.

Two very old Coke coolers.  They do not work, but are filled with ice and the pop are really cold.

The restaurant has a very "homy" feel.

Michele chose the classic brisket and I chose the moist brisket.

It was very good and for less than $20 for both of us!  We will be back.

Really neat washroom.

The patio.  Michele with her new friend.

We are still watching the Olympic games.  There are many finals tonight.  Canada is doing very good with medals (29 total).

Sunday February 25, 2018

Michele woke up with back pain.  She did not move very much today.
I even went to the pool alone!

Just to let you know, there will be many photos of the Olympics.  We watched a lot of the games this year.

Tonight are the closing ceremonies of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Games.

The photos are not very good because I took them on the TV.
It was a very nice show.

The Olympic athletes coming in.  Can you see the Canadian Flag?

Holding the flag is Kim Boutin, she won a silver medal in speed skating.

The Canadian delegation.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the gold medal in the couple figure skating.  They were just beautiful to watch.

We also did good in luge with a silver medal.

We did not do as good in curling.

Speed skating was full of surprises, it was not the favorite who won, but the young athletes who did.

Snowboard and ski competition were fun to watch.  WOW!

Helping each other.

Some good hockey, but just the bronze medal.

The games are over!

Goodbye Pyeongchang, Hello Beijing.

We did not miss much of the Olympics.  We love the winter Olympics.

Monday February 26, 2018

Well, we got rain today!
Here they use the roads as a way to move water away from the "road".

In just a few hours, the water is almost gone.

Tuesday February 27, 2018

I went for a bike ride of 13.75 km this morning.
This nice man waved at me this morning as I went by.

We are invited at a neighbor for supper.  It is a potluck style meal.
The owner and host of the potluck is cooking brisket and pulled pork, we just needed to bring the rest.
He does this once per winter to say thank you to the people who helped him, even those that just happen to be there like us!
We are more than 35 people present for this potluck.

What we contributed for the potluck.

We had so much food!
And it was so good.  We brought "Poor Man's Pudding" (or pudding aux chomeurs in French-Canadian).
They really liked it.

Wednesday February 28, 2018

Wednesday!  What do we do?
We go to the Mercadome flea market.
Michele is looking for some hair coloring stuff!  At $1 per box, not too bad!

For the afternoon, we go visit of the Museum of South Texas history.

Cowboy, Cowgirl and a Vaquero.

The main hall has flowerpots all around...

The flowerpots are cowboy boots!

This is what Texas looked like back 75 million years ago!
We are at the red arrow now.

A big mammoth following Michele.

The native have been around Texas for many thousands of years.

A small homestead house and a soldier tent around the end of the 19th century.

Luxury!

The kitchen wagon.

Lots of artifacts from the area.

What a history for this bell.

They used to wear this many years ago!

Another part of the museum displays the relation between the river Rio Grande and what that river as done for the area and the people.

A house from the 1940.

We always like it when there is a display of electronics from the past.  The worst is that we have used many of these!

We really enjoyed this museum.

Until next time.

Life is good...
