The weather forecaster are tell us we will get more rain today!
I am out for a short walk before the rain starts. Look at the
water level?
The water is very high. All the campsites near the water are
flooded.
Something strange is happening in Weller's Bay. The wind is
blowing the Lake Ontario water into the Bay. The Bay water level
rises
a few inches and stays like that for 10 to 15 minutes. After that
time, it goes back out to Lake Ontario and the water level
drops for 10 to 15 minutes and then it come back in again.
We have a tide going on!
One of the RV Park road is closed.
The rain has started and the water level is rising.
It is raining pretty hard at times.
The soil is saturated and the water level in the Bay is almost the same
as this part of the RV Park.
The water you see is coming from other part of the RV Park.
The water is overflowing the road.
Do you want water? Almost 6 inches around the MH.
Jan and Jannie are worried about the water coming up to the electrical
transformer.
Jan is gone with some helpers to get some sandbags while I give a hand
to Patricia with the installation of the water pump.
In about 10 minutes the transformer is surrounded with sandbags and
the pump is taking the water out.
I almost forgot, it is my birthday today. I am starting my 57th
years in my wonderful life.
We are invited for diner at Jan and Jannie's place, thank you Jannie
and
Jan for the very good meal with great people.
Tuesday May 2, 2017
The rain has stopped overnight and the water level is dropping in some
part of the park.
Here is the transformer and the pump we installed last evening.
Water, water everywhere!
You can't do much in weather like this. Time to read magazines.
When the weather is like this for a more then a few days, the MH starts
to get a
little small. You have to be more careful with each other.
Wednesday May 3, 2017
WOW! The sun is shinning today!
A visit of the RV Park.
I think they are the only one enjoying the water!
This being the first sunny day we've had since we got here, I wash the
MH.
This morning, I gave a hand to Jan and Patricia moving boats out of
storage in the clubhouse.
Thursday May 4, 2017
Today, we have our yearly appointment with our family doctor for the
blood work results.
As usual, all is good with both of us health wise. We are good
for another year.
We are going to meet Jan and Jannie and go to see a play at the
Brighton
Barn Theater.
It was a very good play.
The four of us have really enjoyed the play.
Friday May 5, 2017
Another rainy day.
We are surrounded by water because the pumps cannot keep up with the
water
coming in.
We are using the picnic table as a reference point for the water level
in
Weller's Bay.
The rain is coming down harder so I decide to do some more reading.
Once again the water is overflowing the road.
The owners are
monitoring the infrastructures in the RV Park to make sure all is safe
and as dry as
they can be.
Hummm! It is rising again!
How deep is the water on our site?
I think the photos answer the question. We are not in
danger. We are still a little higher than the Bay.
A small stream usually drains water in the Bay, but with the amount
of water coming from the surrounding land, it cannot keep up and
overflows its banks into the park. So far, no trailers are
damaged by the
water.
Water, water go away!
Our reference point, the table. Usually the water level is two
feet lower.
The trailer behind the big tree is the one most at risk so far.
Our waterfront home.
Oh well!
Saturday May 6, 2017
The following three photos have been borrowed from Facebook. (I
promise I will return them soon!)
North Shore viewed from above. The arrow points to our MH.
The red line indicates the small stream. It is the separation
between North Shore RV Park and Barcovan RV Park. North Shore is
in the
upper side of the photo.
The water level is still going up.
The small stream is overflowing some more.
It "was" a nice rest area!
Can you see the table?
Jan had to shut down the sewer system in the park because the water
level in the Bay is flooding the sewer system.
Our gray/black water tanks are full and we cannot dump them. Jan
has found another close by RV Park where we can dump our tanks.
We are preparing the MH for a short trip to the dump station.
You see behind the MH with the camera.
Three pumps are trying to keep our area dry.
We have to move a pipe so we can drive out.
Remember our table, the reference point?
The arrow points to it.
It is about 300 meters across the small
bay, but we had to drive over 2 km to get here.
So close, yet so far!
Once we were empty, we went back to North Shore.
The park is close, but we are lucky, Jan and Jannie are letting us stay
anyway.
Our new site is a little higher, so a little drier.
I am moving our stuff from our "old" site to our new site.
The view from our windshield in 2017 and in 2016.
The water level is about 6 inches above the ground at the docks, or
about two
feet above Weller's Bay normal water level.
Our reference point!
Oh well! We are not in danger and nobody go hurt, but this
weather is starting to
get to our nerves...
Sunday May 7, 2017
Jan, the owner, has asked for help to move air conditioning units from
under two of the cottages. The water is getting closer and closer
to them.
This one will be out shortly.
We stored them in the shop.
I also gave him a hand with moving some of the docks so they don't
float away if the wind picks up and the water rises more
Water everywhere!
We have to look at the bright side of things. Nobody is getting
hurt, we are not flood or any damage from the water and we do not have
to move out of the park yet, life is good considering...
Monday May 8, 2015
This is a quiet day in the park. We are all watching the water
level...
When Michele saw the doctor, she asked him for a good pedorthist in the
area. She has foot problems from wearing military ankle boots for
20 years. Not the best boots ever!
Our doctor recommended BioPed in Belleville. They have 75 clinics
all across Canada.
Michele booked an appointment last week and this is where we are this
afternoon.
Because Michele's foot problems are the direct results of wearing
military ankle boots, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) will assume the
cost of whatever Michele needs are for her feet.
We meet Tim Brinkman, the pedorthist, he did an evaluation of what the
problem was with Michele's feet. He took the time to explain what
was Michele's condition and what the solution would be.
She will need two orthopaedic footwear to correct her problems.
Tim also explained what kind of shoes would be better for
Michele. Tim is
very good.
After we left BioPed, we went shopping for the right kind of shoes for
Michele.
She found the shoes at Chesler Shoes in Belleville.
Tuesday May 9, 2017
I have to renew my passport this year.
I could do it by mail, but we want to have it ASAP, just in case
something happen and there is a delay in the process.
So, to make it faster, we are dropping off the paperwork at the Service
Canada passport office in Whitby. It is about an hour away from
home. They will make sure the paperwork is filled out properly
and no mistake were made to slow down the process.
I had to wait an hour at the Service Canada office, but that is OK.
All my paperwork is done right and it should take no longer then 2
weeks to get my new passport. We will see!
Michele is shopping at a few thrift shops and while I am waiting, I
notice this passenger in the car. Just to let you know, I won and
the spider lost!
Since we are away from home for lunch, why not have lunch at the
Mandarin.
After we got back home, we kept an eye on the water level.
More photos of the flood...
Like everywhere there is flood, we get some good news, some bad news
and
some fake news. Who do you believe?
Wednesday May 10, 2017
The sun is shinning and it is even a little warm, but the water level
is still the same.
This is Brian's trailer and it is the worst as far as the water level
goes.
Since it is nice outside, I take the time to wash the windshield.
With the water level possibly rising, Jan and Jannie decided to sandbag
their house and shop. They asked for helpers on Facebook to
come tomorrow at 4 pm to fill and place sandbags.
Thursday May 11, 2017
Just as a preventive measure, Jan has asked Barry and us to move to
another part of the RV Park. This will also make easier to move
around with the sandbags.
Barry, in the center, has decided to leave early to visit friends in
Toronto. We just moved to another site.
Is the water rising?
Not yet!
I gave them a hand to move freezers and raise washers and driers.
Jan, Jannie and Patricia really keep an eye on the water.
Two truck load of sand came this morning.
Since we have a few people in the park, it was decided that we could
start after lunch, why not!
We started at 1 pm with about 8 peoples, by 4 pm we were 20.
Look at the bags going up and the sand pile going down.
Shortly after 4 pm, we must have been over 40 filling and placing the
bags.
With so many hands at work, it took no time to build the "wall".
The water my look far from the house, but only a 6 inch rise would
bring the water level to the house.
Nobody is idle, every work to their capacity.
Jan, Jannie and Patricia taught it would take until 9 pm or later to
get everything they wanted to be done...
A 1,000 sandbags later and it is only 6:30 pm. the house is protected
and so is the shop. Jan, Jannie and Patricia are a little
surprised at the response for help they got and how fast it got all
done.
This is what it's all about, helping each other's in time of needs.
Friday May 12, 2017
Another quiet morning. As usual, I go for a walk and check the
water level. Still somewhat stable.
This afternoon we have our annual meeting with our money guy who
manages the billions of dollars we have! Yea, right!
We come out after 45 minutes and all is still good.
Saturday May 13, 2017
Thursday we had to move the MH as a precaution. Here is our new
site.
We did not back all the way because the last part is still very soft
and I did not want to get stuck with the MH.
The road is actually strait, not curved like it is in the photo.
We are at the entrance of the RV Park. Weller's Bay is on the
left at the end of the road.
More photos of the flood. The arrow points to a fire ring barely
above water. The fire ring is about 10 to 12 inches high.
The swans are floating next to a submerged fire ring.
Yesterday we could walk on this road.
No matter what, spring is here and the flowers are coming up!
The water is slooowly going up.
Sunday May 14, 2017
Weather forecast for Sunday? Scattered showers all day.
Just before 10 am, Jannie came knocking on our door and asked for help
filling more sandbags, but this time for a neighbor.
Michele will not be coming because of her back and feet, she has to be
careful for a while.
Shortly after we started, we had to stop for a short thunder storm.
Here is what is left of the sand pile after more than 3 hours of work
and 525 sandbags.
The final result!
Now, they only have to pump the water out.
It feels good to help people when you can.
Jannie, Jan and Patricia invited us to join them for a nice meal at the
Lone Star Texas Grill in Belleville for
mother's day.
As usual, the good and the bad photos!
We had a very good meal and had a very good time with friends.
Monday May 15, 2015
We are slowly getting into a daily routine.
The water level in Weller's Bay and Lake Ontario has somewhat
increasing
a little.
Another fire ring disappearing.
We are back at BioPed for the fitting of Michele's new orthodontics.
She is getting two of them, one for each shoe. Everything is
going very good and no adjustment necessary. All Michele needs to
do now is getting use to them.
Later on, after a short walk, Michele had a little bit of lower back
pain. It is normal, Michele's back is being realigned now with
the use
of the orthodontics. Tim, "the foot doctor," had warned her that a
period of adaption was
going to take place for a while.
In the long-term, Michele will be
better.
