1 to 15 April 2017   16 to 30 April 2017

Saturday April 1, 2017

We are going to have a busy day again today.
First, our RV Park and site.
The L'Acadie Inn & RV Park.

It is a small RV Park with about 12ish sites.

The view from the MH.

The motel part.  On the right is the office and on the left is the patio leading to the pool.

The patio.

And the not heated pool.

The first thing the lady told us to do Saturday morning was to go to the Savoy Music Center and see Marc Savoy partake in the Jam Session taking place.

The Jan Session is in the store.  It is free.  There are as many musicians as there are spectators.
We spent about an hour listening to the Cajun music.

To view a jam session, click here.

We still have a little time before lunch, off we go geocaching.
Michele saw a frog fall from a tree, here he is.

After a good lunch at home, we are back in town at the Acadian Culture center.

The displays are very good and explains all about the Acadian history in the area.
Very well made.

Now this is something I did not know!  Blacks had slaves...

In the afternoon, we have another band playing Cajun music at the canter.

Once the band was done playing, we attended a cooking class with a local cook.

He is a cook and not a great communicator, still enjoyable.
He explains how to prepare a "Catfish à la sauce piquante".  Catfish with a spicy sauce.

We each had a small bowl of catfish à la sauce piquante.  Very good.

Before we left for supper, I got talking to another cook present at the class.  He explained the difference between Mexican and Cajun food.  Mexican food is hot while Cajun food is spicy.

We had supper at home.

We are back in town to the Liberty Center for a concert of Cajun music.

We will be listening to "Jay Cormier and Cajun Born".  They are well known in Louisiana.

We are at the "Rendez Vous des Cajuns".  The Liberty center is an old theater that was renovated not too long ago.  There is a concert every Saturday evening.

The back drop is a representation of Eunice many years ago.

The concert is about 1:30 h long and people can dance if they want to.  We enjoyed the music, we listened to a  lot of Cajun music today!

Sunday April 2, 2017

The weather forecast for today?
Rain, thunderstorms, hail, flooding and even tithe possibility of a tornado...

It turns out we got only heady rain and strong wind.

Monday April 3, 2015

We have had a lot of rain yesterday.
This is the result of all the rain.  This flat country and the water has nowhere to go fast.

Now the RV Park.

Sunday we took a walk in the park and we were wondering why this guy had pallets for sidewalk.
Now we know why.

Like I wrote, this is flat country and it takes time for the water to flow out of here.  On top of that, they had a lot of rain in the past few weeks.

Tuesday April 4, 2017

Time to move again!

Goodbye Eunice and L'Acadie Inn & RV Park, I think we will be back in the future.

We have to go back to Eunice to take the HWY 13 north.

Rice is still the main crop around here.

What a name for a town!

The roads are pretty good and the traffic is light, a nice day driving.

We have seen lions, dolphins, but never pigs!

We had to move onto the shoulder of the road to let him go by!

The water level is high everywhere along the coast right now.

Almost all the herds have donkey with them.  They are very good guards for the herd.

Vidalia where our next home will be for one night.

We were at this RV Park two years ago.

A barge going down the Mississippi.

Can you see our MH?

The bridges between Vidalia, Louisiana and Natchez, Mississippi.

We are spending only one night here just to fill our fresh water tank and make sure our black and gray  water tanks are empty before we start the Natchez Trace.  The campgrounds on the Trace have no services, but they are free.

Wednesday April 5, 2017

Today we are starting the Trace.  We had done most of the Trace two years ago, but our MH broke near Nashville and we did not finish it.
We are ready to roll...

There is a little bit of fog, but nothing to worry about.

Goodbye Louisiana.

We have to cross the mighty Mississippi.

Hello Mississippi and the city of Natchez.

We made a quick stop at the Walmart before we start the Trace.

Mile one of the Natchez Trace.

The speed limit on the Trace is 50 MPH,  we are driving only 45 MPH.  Very few cars or RVs on the Trace.
We lust love the slow pace and the nice scenery.

After a little over 90 km, we are at our new home, Rocky Spring campground.

It is a free campground with no services.
We found a spot quickly.

Wow!  Driving for 90 km made me so tired that I had to take a half hour nap.

Because of all the trees, we have no satellite TV for the next few days.
Time to have a campfire after diner.  Yes a propane campfire.

We should be here for four nights.

Thursday April 6, 2017

WOW!  What a good night of sleep we had.  Imagine it is dark and quiet all night long and it is only +10 C.  We slept with the windows open all night.  Happiness.

I am out for a walk this morning.  It is a loop and it takes me along a small stream and then to the old Natchez Trace itself.

Why if the Trace so deep?
Just imagine only in 1810 more than 10,000 people walk this trace.

Darn our lifestyle is hard...

We had bought some more frozen crawfish a while back, now it is time to eat them.
Michele is not that crazy about crawfish, but I am.
I decided to warm them up on the BBQ.

The RV in front of us is gone so we moved up to is spot to make it easier.

The temperature is a nice +22°C and Michele is enjoys reading in the sun.

The campground is full and 95% Quebecers.  It is the migration of the "Winter Texan" from Texas back to Canada

Friday April 7, 2017

Michele and I are out for a walk, In want to walk by the small stream.

Many States have had some very bad weather int he past month.
Here is an example of the damage...

It is a nice trail.

This looks like nice place to get down by the water.

In my youthful enthusiasms I did not notice it was clay on the way down...

I a slip sliding away, my sandals are very big now, but I manage to get out of there.

Michele had the camera on me all along.  She was waiting for me to fall flat on my back in the mud.  She loves me!

The water is not as clear as it was two years ago. Like I said, it rained a lot lately.

You get many different types of RVs here, from the tent in the bed of a truck.

To the antic RV.

Most of the RVer have nice rigs.

Saturday April 8, 2017

We have met many good people here. Here are two couple we met.
Here are Nicole and Marcel.  They have been traveling for many years.  They are very nice people and we hope our path will cross again in the future.

The other couple we have met here are Levis and Marie-Claude.  They too are very nice people, simple, happy people.
We are happy we met them and we would like to see them again in the future.

Every day cyclists stop at this campground to rest and spend the night.  Surprise, this one is not a cyclist, but someone with a pickup truck.
Now this is basic for equipment...

Like I said, many campers are from Quebec.  One of them is into music, she sings and he looks after the equipment and sings too.
They came earlier in the day to invite us to their site for a jam session.  They sang many places in the Rio Grande area of Texas.
Remember, we have no electricity.  A big campfire and big batteries, karaoke equipment and we have music for more than two hours.

We are spoiled.  Good music, good singing, friends with us that is happiness.

Sunday April 9, 2017

After four nights here, it is time to move.  Before we move, here is another couple we met.  Sylvie and Robert, again very nice people that we would like to met again in the future.  They live close to where I lived when I was with my parents.  They were supposed to stay one night and ended up staying more nights then they planned.

We will try to met you when we will be back in Quebec.

Ready to roll!  I can tell you it took a long time to get ready because many people stopped by to say goodbye before we left.

Back on the Trace.

The things you see when traveling!

We leave the Trace and enter Jackson, Mississippi to go to our next RV Park.
The RV Park is next to the Barnett reservoir.
We are on the lower side of the barrage.  When we will come back we will be on top of the barrage.

All the rivers are very high right now.  Jackson has some flooding.

Lots of fishermen on the discharge of the barrage.

Our RV Park is part of the Barnett reservoir park.

We notice this sign after we registered.
I guess I will be drinking my beer in a plastic mug for a few days.
This is a dry RV Park.

We spend the rest of the day reading.
We will be here for two nights.  Enough time to fill our fresh water tank, dump our gray and black water tank and recharge our batteries properly.

Monday April 10, 2015

We are going groceries shopping for a few hours in the afternoon.
More fishermen on the reservoir.

That is a weird looking antenna!

By the end of the day, we are ready to leave tomorrow morning.

Tuesday April 11, 2017

After two days here, we got the fresh water tank filled, the waste water tanks empty and the batteries are fully charged.
Time to leave this RV Park.  We were in a new section of the RV Park.  Beautiful concrete sites, but they are not even leveled!
We had to place the front wheels on blocks to make it level otherwise our front wheels would have been two inches of the ground.

Still lots of fishermen at the discharged of the dam.

In 10 minutes we were back on the Natchez Trace.

The first part of the Trace is right next to the reservoir.

After 155 km of nice roads, we arrive at the Jeff Busby campground on the Natchez Trace.

There are many sites available because officially the campground is closed because there is no water or washroom facilities.

There is lots of nuts on the ground nest to this tree.  I am cleaning them up because I do not want to twist an ankle on those big nuts!!!

Now that we are settled in, we go out for a walk in the campground.  We are walking the trail marked by the red arrows.

The park people have done lots of work to the campground and the park itself.
The trail has been repaired.

Our home from the trail.

That is one big beetle!

Here is the explanation on the name of the park Jeff Busby.

Two of the viewpoints on the top of the big hill.

We take the road to get back home.  Many trees have those vines growing around them and some of them are poison ivy!

Our home from the road.

The white camper on the photo are people from Quebec and they are very nice.  We get along very nicely.

Wednesday April 12, 2017

This is the whole Jeff Busby site.

I changed the setting on our camera to make the colour more vivid.  I am just trying this out for fun.
It really adds to the photos.

On the left, not vivid and on the right, vivid.

I walked the same trial as yesterday, this is on the way back.

Back at the campground I can hear a noisy generator.  Here it is, a commercial generator, not built to be quiet that is sure!
But, when everyone pays nothing for the campsite, you cannot complain about the noise.

A site near the washroom.

Some more sites, this one with a tent platform.  Our MH way in the distance...

And our site.

We have a nice +28°C and no wind, nice.

Thursday April 13, 2017

Last evening we got new neighbor, pretty close sites aren't they?
Quiet day for us, I went for a walk up the hill.

Halfway up the hill, the trail comes close to the road.  I noticed a turtle crossing the road.

As I got closer, it closed up.  I do not want it to get run over by a car, so I quickly take some photos and leave it alone.

On my way back from the top, I am looking for the turtle.
Can you see it in the grass?  It got across without a problem.

A little further I notice a funny twig.  It is a small lizard and it is the first time I see one like this one.

Like I said, a quiet day, we spent a few hours talking to our neighbor Michel and Magella.

When we get up to leave, Michele feels some pain in her lower back, nothing big.

Friday April 14, 2017

Michele's back problem got worse in the evening and at night.
We are heading out of the campground to go to Tupelo on a State Park campground.
We are still on the Trace.

As we got close to Tupelo, we left the Trace to go to the "Trace State Park".  It has nothing to do with the Natchez Trace.
Many people recommended this state park.

WOW!  The road in the park was just horrible.  We had booked our site by phone so our time at the entrance to the park was very short.

The lake is a reservoir, here is part of the lake.

Our site from many different angles.

Where is the lake? Where is the water?
I learned that the lake/reservoir has to be drained to make some repairs to the dam itself and a pump.
The red lines show where the water is supposed to be!

Our site is very nice.

It is +31°C, we are not moving a lot that is sure.

Saturday April 15, 2017

Michele is not feeling very good with her backache.
We called the travel insurance and explained what was wrong with Michele.
They recommended a hospital in Tupelo.
As soon as we go to the emergency room, we filled some paperwork and she was seeing a doctor within 15 minutes.
Two shots later and a prescription for medication later, we were out of the emergency room.
When they say they have a problem with people being fat in the US, just look at the chairs.  This is not for two people, but for one fat American!

So within one hour we are out of there.  We had to pay, but we will claim the bill to the travel insurance.  It costs us $275 for the consultation and the two shots.  Not bad!

Michele is spending the rest of the day on her back reading and I will go visit the Tupelo Auto mobile Museum.

A view of the entire museum.  There are "three streets" in the museum.

One street is for old cars.

One more for the cars of the 40's, 50's and 60's.

The first Toyota cars were not called Toyota, but Toyopet!

I did not know V8 were that old!

What a gas station would have looked like back in the days!

This was a good movie.

One of the few Tucker ever made.  Very forward thinking for its time.  Many of the innovations are now normal on today's cars.

I am not a car guy, but I really enjoyed this museum.

The museum has many one of a kind cars on display.

There is an other exhibit in the museum, this one is for older muscle cars.

An amphibious car.

I kind of remember this movie, I will have to watch it again...

When you are a star!  You get what you want.

It is not a DeLorean, but a Bricklin.

That's the DeLorean

An electric car in the 80's?

When you say "Just like new", you really mean it.

Only three race cars in the museum.

I really enjoyed this museum.

Once I was back at home, I noticed the water level in the lake is even lower.

Michele's medications are starting to take effect.

Until next time.

Life is good...
