A view of our site from the other side of the lake.
Can you see our home?
Monday April 17, 2015
Another moving day.
The lake is now empty!
I think we will have to come back when it is full.
The MH is ready to travel, once out of our spot, we hook up the car to
the MH.
I am installing the "Brake Buddy". It is a supplemental braking
system needed for the car when you are towing the car.
We will need to use our generator at our next stop, Time to add more
gasoline to the MH.
Once we convert the price of gasoline to CDN dollars, it turns out to
cost $0.79 per
liters. Not bad at all!
We are back on the Natchez Trace.
Ah the things you see on the road!
90 kilometers later, we cross into Alabama and still on the Natchez
Trace.
We cross the big Tennessee river.
We are in Alabama for only 50 km. We are now in Tennessee.
After 215 km on the road, we arrive at the Meriwether Lewis campground
on the Natchez Trace.
Later on, we went to the local Walmart, about 10 miles away and on our
way back, we got hit with a big thunderstorm.
I so not recall ever driving in such a heavy downpour.
Basically, we spent our days talking to Magella and Michel, reading
some books and going for short walk. Short walk because it is all
Michele can do, right now, because of her backache.
Magella and Michel are very nice people. They have over 15 years
experience under there belt. We all get along very well.
Magella and Michel, we hope our path will cross again in the future.
We will be leaving the campground tomorrow morning and complete the
Natchez trace.
I take the time to clean the windshield, it was covered in dead bugs.
I remember my survival training. They recommended to drink plenty
of liquid to keep hydrated!!! (Beer has water in it, right?)
The windows are very dirty.
We are watching the weather up north because we do not want to travel
north until it warms up some more.
Thursday April 20, 2017
Ready to roll.
After a short detour because of construction, we are back on the
Natchez Trace.
I like small rock walls by the road.
After 90 km we are done with the Natchez trace.
Time to hit Interstate 40 north.
Once passed Nashville, we take I-65 N to Kentucky.
I guess they must be very nice!
We made a short stop at the Kentucky welcome center.
Another six mile and we are home for the night.
The plan is to leave tomorrow morning and stop at the Corvette Museum
and assembly plant and then carry on down the road. Michele is
not very interested to visit the museum or the assembly plant.
Change of plan!
After thinking about it and some research on the internet, I will need
more then a few hours to visit both attractions.
So, I bought my tickets for the visits and also paid for another night
at the campground.
The entrance.
These Corvettes are already sold. Not the one on the right.
These ones are waiting for their owner to come and pick it up. If
you are an American, you can come here at the museum and pick up your
new Corvette. If you are Canadian, you cannot do that. It
is a question of legalities.
As I mentioned before, I am not a car guy.
But I do love a nice car.
I did not know the new Corvette are the 7th generation.
Two nice racing Corvettes .
This is something I did not know.
The Corvette was one of the first car made out of fiberglass.
You are going to see a lot of Corvette.
The black Corvette is a 1959, the one in the middle is a 1958 and on
the left, it is a 1957.
The Corvette on the right is a 1953, in the center, a 1954 and on the
left, a 1955.
The Corvette in the museum are either bought, given or on loan from
private individuals.
A Corvette "Astro-Vette" 1968.
It was only built for aerodynamics testing.
This is a 1986 "concept" Corvette (red).
It has a mid engine, 4 wheel drive. It was a test platform for
future Corvette.
A Corvette with no body, interesting to see how they use every little
nook and cranny sometimes.
This mock up is all made of wood.
Sometimes they have to crash one to help save lives.
I like big photo made up of little photos .
February 12 214, a sinkhole happen under the Skydome and took many
corvettes.
We are in the Skydome where the sinkhole happen.
Some of the Corvette were repairable, but many were damaged beyond
repair.
This is the 1,000,000 Corvette. It was restored once out of the
sinkhole.
The ones that could not be repaired.
Do you want Corvettes?
One of only 140 made that colour...
We have visited this aircraft carrier and it is big.
Imagine 416 corvette on the deck?
The tour took a little over an hour and it was very interesting.
We were not allowed to take any electronic devices with us, so no
photos.
I strongly recommend a visit to both, the museum and the plant if you
ever happen to drive by Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Saturday April 22, 2017
We have had a few thunderstorm last night and now we are leaving
Franklin under a rainy sky.
The weather forecast is calling for rain all day. We will keep an
eye on the weather and if it is bad, we will stop.
We drive by the Corvette museum.
Our grandson would love to go in there!
It is very windy today and it makes for hard driving.
It turns out, we had very little rain, but strong wind. We drive
around Cincinnati.
You have got to love some of the names and signs.
Welcome to Ohio!
We plan on spending the night at a Walmart in Columbus.
Well! No Walmart allows overnight parking in Columbus.
Remember to never ask about camping in a Walmart, only to park in a
Walmart.
We drove thru Columbus and stopped at a Flying J truck stop.
Can you see us between the trucks?
You do not take your slides out when you are at a truck stop or Walmart.
We covered a little over 600 km today, a big day.
Sunday April 23, 2017
We are not in a rush today.
First time we see a road sign like this one!
The roads are very nice, but the wind is still blowing hard.
We leave the I-90 to get to our next campground.
Shoot! Road construction and lots of dust.
Hummm! This is a narrow road...
We made it!
The campground is not open! It opens only next week, what do we
do?
The owner offers us to park in the parking lot and get us
electricity. All for the price of $0.00. OK!
Our new home.
Look at the dust on the MH and the car.
While we were watching TV, the TV went out and we heard a loud noise.
It is not windy here, but and old tree fell across the road...
Here I am coming back from directing traffic.
It is hot and I am reading in the little bit of shade available.
We only traveled 275 km today.
Monday April 24, 2015
The park owner allows us to dump and fill our fresh water tank for
free. What nice people they are.
Me at work.
I also take the time to rinse off the car from all the dust it has
received yesterday.
One section of the RV park.
The RV Park also has three small lake with fish.
We are back on the very narrow road.
They should make up their mind about how low the bridge is!
We cannot make it under it, we are 12' 6" high.
Before we got back on I-90, we filled the MH full of gas for the last
time in the US.
Shortly after we got on I-90, we entered Pennsylvania.
We are on our way to Buffalo/Niagara.
Lake Erie.
Our next and last state is New York.
Closer to our country...
The I-90 is a toll road for about 100 km.
It only costs about $12.
We have to pay close attention to the signs to Canada, I miss it a few
years back!
Buffalo.
Watch out, getting closer!
After a quick stop at the Duty Free store, we go across the Peace
Bridge to enter Canada.
The right lane is closed for repairs and on our way across, a transport
truck was coming the other way and he did not move over very
much.
My right hand side mirror touched the construction fences.
Tabarouette!
The custom was not a problem as usual.
The wind is still blowing very strong and it is off the Lake Ontario.
Look at the waves!
The traffic is heavy, but smooth.
We got off the highway to get to the Etobicoke Walmart, right in the
city.
Nice car.
After we asked permission to park overnight, we make a quick stop at
McDonald for a quick bit to eat.
Then, it is off to visit Michele's sister, Odette.
We spoil ourselves and go for a nice buffet.
Odette, myself, Onyx and Alix.
The good family photo and the not so good family photo!
We had a very good time visiting Odette, Alix and Onyx.
We drove a little less than 400 km today.
Tuesday April 25, 2017
Another good night at Walmart. We are back on the road to
Trenton. It is 9 am when we hit HWY 427 and then the good old 401.
Traffic is heavy once again, but very disciplined.
The rain followed us all the way to Trenton.
We leave the 401 for Brighton.
We make a quick stop for propane on our way to Trenton. It is
weird, propane is cheaper in here than the US!
One more night at Walmart here in Trenton. Why Walmart and not
the North Shore RV Park?
Simply because we have an appointment for the MH for a rust control
application. It is simpler to spend the night at Walmart.
We leave the MH in the parking lot and take the car to do some stuff in
town, like get our mail from our home (UPS Store), get the paper work
to H&R Block for income tax and the drug store.
First, the car need a very good wash.
We cannot wait to finally get all settle at the North Shore RV Park.
Wednesday April 26, 2017
I am on my way for the rust control application and Michele is on her
way for some more grocery shopping.
After all that, we made it to North
Shore RV Park.
We are very happy to see Jannie and Jan again.
Michele fixed us a very good snack.
Photos of our site in the next few days.
Thursday April 27, 2017
Yesterday we stopped by our doctor's office to pick up our blood work
request.
This morning at 6:30 am we are on the road to the lab to get our blood
taken.
We only had to wait 30 minutes and we were out of the lab. Great!
Here is our site.
We are the only one on the overnight sites. The park is not
officially open yet, but they let us stay because they know we have no
other place to go. The view from our windshield.
Lake Ontario's water level is very high, like 2 feet above normal!
Many sites are not usable right now and for the next few weeks or
months?
Friday April 28, 2017
We went to Brighton for a few things and on the way back we took a road
to get closer to Lake Ontario and see where the water level is.
To think that last summer, people were asking for more water because
the water level was way too low!
Saturday April 29, 2017
A quiet day at home, at least for me. Michele went out yard
saling from 10 am to 4 pm.
I did get caught up on the web pages.
Sunday April 30, 2017
Brrr! It is not warm in Ontario!
To think that last Sunday we were in Ohio and the weather was at +24°C.
It rains, it is windy, we decide to go for a walk at the mall in
Belleville.
The only thing green is the grass.
The road construction in downtown Belleville is finally over.
It is very nice now, if only stores would move here and people come
shopping downtown...
We did walk in the mall and we got back home by 5 pm.
We spent the evening watching TV.
