The weather has improved some, no rain. Time to go geocaching
again.
Our starting point is at the Okanagan River.
Some early building in the area.
The grape harvest has started!
You want to visit vineyard? How many do you want to visit!
Other fruits are also being harvested at this time.
A cache was at the Stoneboat vineyard.
A stoneboat was used to carry rocks out of the fields.
Here is an example.
Another cache was in a local cemetery.
That nice gold field is actually a field made of prickly bush.
Cannot forget the cactus!
Our first snake here in Osoyoos!
It turned out to be some kind of garden snake.
The sun came out just to illuminate this mountain!
We had a good day with 14 caches found.
Monday October 17, 2016
Me and Michele are having McMuffin style breakfast this morning.
I got busy and cleaned the microwave, it needed it!
Michele is inside reading and I am outside reading with the propane
fireplace.
Tuesday October 18, 2016
It looks like rain for today, but we decided to go biking anyway.
We are on the Kettle Valley Railtrail toward Oliver. We are
following the Okanagan River.
Most railroad are behind the houses when it comes to a town.
Some time you get to see some little treasures like this old car.
It is +14°C and a chance of rain.
A small garden with some very BIG pumpkins.
We are looking for a few caches on the KVR trail.
We biked 6 km to get to Oliver and turned around to get back to the car.
We also found two caches today.
Wednesday October 19, 2016
It is supposed to be nice today.
We decide to do the series of caches "Rocking the Bride".
This series has 58 caches and it is on a nice gravel road called "Rock Creek-Brideville Road".
It is about 35 km from the campground.
Let's go!
On the way to the series we also have to find 6 other caches.
The first one is near the town of Osoyoos.
Some of the higher mountain do have some snow.
Another cache with Osoyoos in the background.
At about 20 km from home, I realize I do not have the series of caches
loaded in our GPS!!!! Not good!
We got back home to load the caches in the GPS. I am not very
proud of myself...
Back on hwy #3 east.
The weather can change rapidly in the mountains. 3 minutes ago it
was sunny here, now we are in a cloud/fog.
Pretty Michele.
The coat is needed here. We are at an altitude of about 1150
meters. Osoyoos is at about 280 meters. It was +15°C in
Osoyoos and it is +4°C here.
It looks like the fence is growing a fur!
When we arrived near Osoyoos the first time we noticed some of the
streets had sculpture on the name of the street at the entrance.
This street is called.... Eagle.
I like to think Michele was in "Awwww" over me and not Sasquatch!!!
A cache was in the old barn, but it eluded us!
However, the view was worth it...
We area finally at the beginning of the series Rocking the Bride.
Many caches were made like this one. Simple yet it works.
We found 54 of the 58 caches in the series, not bad.
We even had mule deer checking us out as we looked for a cache.
Osoyoos in early evening.
We found a total of 59 caches today. This is the most in one day
for us.
Thursday October 20, 2016
A quiet day for us...
We got a msg from our friend who lives in Penticton. Maryse
invites us for supper tomorrow.
Friday October 21, 2016
We left Osoyoos just after lunch because we want to look for some
caches on our way to Maryse's place.
We drive by the Lake Vaseux. It is a French name and it means
silty/muddy lake. It is not very deep lake.
Another lake, this one is called Lake Skaha with the town of...
...Okanagan Falls...
A cache is near the welcome sign...
Another view of the Lake Skaha with Penticton on the left.
The name of the last cache for today is "Fuzzy's Canadian
Tradition".
Here is the description from Geocaching. com: "Just beyond the gate is a "Beam
Station" for the local airport in Penticton. This area is off-limits,
so this gate was installed for security. And as good Canadians,
we abide by the sign not to trespass (even though there is no fence on
either side of the gate.) Yes, Canadians are like that!"
This is the container for the cache.
Penticton, here we come.
With our friend, Maryse. We sure had a lot to talk about.
It was so nice to see Maryse again after all those years. Thanks
for the very good supper.
Saturday October 22, 2016
Maryse is home for the weekend. This time we invite her for
supper.
Michele preparing the Diablo dip for the Chinese fondue.
The next photos are mostly for her father who follows us on our
blog. Normand, this is for you!
A toast, a sip of wine.
The crazy photo.
Time to get busy, food!
Some more crazy photos...
Goodbye Maryse, we hope it will not take another 10+ years to see you
again...
Sunday October 23, 2016
Another day at home. This time I cook a beef stew for supper.
For the rest of the day, we read, watch TV, surf the net and go for a
few walks.
Usually we do not make hard plans when we go south. We kind of
have an idea of where we want to go and play it by hears.
So, for the first time, we made hard plans about our trip south.
Why? We want to visit San Francisco and Los Angeles in
November. We reserved our campground in S.F for 7 days and L.A.
for 10 days. We also have 10 days to get to S.F. This way
we still have some "unplanned" part about the trip south. We
should be in Yuma around December 4th...
Now that the reservation are made, we cannot wait to get going...
Monday October 24, 2016
A quiet day at home.
We still go out for a walk the campground.
All the "decorations" are with native theme.
As I mentioned before, the Okanagan Indian Band (OIB) are the owner of
this
RV park.
A good thing they are sleeping now!
We spent some time at the pool. We chatted with a couple from
Québec.
Just like all the previous falls, we found the last 2 weeks of October
to be the longest until we start our migration south. The
temperature is dropping, more rain and the anticipation to get going...
Tuesday October 25, 2016
We still have a few more museum to visit in Osoyoos before we leave.
The first I visit today is the Desert Museum. This type of museum is not
the type Michele likes.
I am alone for this visit.
Shoot! The museum is closed!
I guess I will have to go the next one.
Michele is not a fan of model railroad either.
It is not an actual museum, but more like a permanent exposition.
So, the Osoyoos
Model Railroad is an exposition about model train on the scale HO.
The photos cannot even give you the amount of details you see in person.
All the scenes are about Germany, in the Bavaria area. They
even have the Baden-Baden train station.
All the train and other moving elements are controlled by computers.
This place has 4,000 square feet.
With more then 1,900 buildings.
19,000 little peoples all painted by hand...
I was here for 2 hours and I do not think I have seen every details....
If you ever in this area, do spend a few hours in the place. I
strongly recommended it!
Wednesday October 26, 2016
It is another rainy day.
We are suppose to receive two packages today. One with our mail
from Trenton and the other with the 2nd receiver from Shaw Direst.
We got both of them!
I install the new receiver and it still does not work. I call
Shaw Direct and this time they send me to the level 2 technical
support. I am frustrated because it still does not work. I
finally tell the technician to call me back tomorrow. I want to
try a few things when I cool off some.
Michele has a super idea, why not use the outside TV since both indoor
TV do not work. Why not.
It works! To my defense, 4 coax cables come into the receiver
compartment, I re-visited all four cables and found out I was using the
wrong cable!!! I am not impressed with myself. I will have
some serious apologies to do tomorrow.
Thursday October 27, 2016
The Shaw Direct tech did call back and I did some serious
apologizing. He said he understood. I think he meant he
understood I am old!!! He even offered us 10 free pay-per-view
movies. He probably thinks I will not know how to order them!!!
Let me introduce our new Shaw Direct receiver. The white thing on
top is simply a RV fridge fan and I use it helps cool off the receiver.
Michele is very happy to finally get back satellite TV...
This coming Tuesday, we start our migration south, this leaves us with
few days to
visit some of the attractions in Osoyoos.
I am off to visit the Osoyoos Museum. Michele stayed at home, she
is not into the small museums.
It is a very small museums with big ambitions. Sadly, like many
small museum, the staff is getting older and no new, younger people are
coming to replace them. It looks like the museum is in
limbo.
I like this welcome sign better than the new one.
In the 30's, the main harvest was Zucca Melons.
Your typical 1940's room.
Osoyoos Main Street.
A dentist chair from the 1960's.
There was some items from the military. I had many meals from
this type of thermos.
They found this dugout canoe, but they do not know much about it or
even the type of tree it came from.
The old way to do things, now they use the big fans I talked about
before.
Pretty ingenious!
Many years ago, fruits used to come in boxes like this one. This
is the machine that made them.
The Canada customs are not like this anymore!
This small building is the actual first customs building in Osoyoos!
Osoyoos around 1920.
And today.
The museum is housed in the old curling club.
The Anarchist mountain. Our MH is where the arrow point.
One day closer until we leave.
Friday October 28, 2016
We have to return the extra receiver we got from Shaw Direct and go to
Scotia Bank to cash out a check and get some US $$$.
Both are located in Penticton, about one hour drive from here.
First stop is in Osoyoos, at the drugstore to pick up my medications
for
the winter.
Since we are going to Penticton, why not look for some caches at the
same time...
This cache is in this cute little birdhouse.
Hard to see, can you see it?
This Ford Fairlane needs a little TLC.
I like when they explain the First Nation way of life.
One of the cache is located here and it is to pay tribute to a local
man who did a lot of fishing here.
The beach on Skaha lake in Okanagan Falls.
Once in Penticton, we finally go for some Chinese food.
WOW! This is the worst place ever, the food was barely warm, it
took 30 minutes to get more chicken wings. This is the worst
restaurant I have ever been too!
With food done and the banking done, we look for caches in Penticton.
What a good paint job for a garage door.
One of the many rivers in Penticton.
Looking for a cache near the beach on Okanagan Lake.
A Dodge Coronet.
We have found 19 caches today. If you take a closer look at the
bottom of this page, you will see a new "box". It tells you how
many caches we currently have found. If you click on the box, you
will be able to see more information about us as geocachers.
The Shaw Direct receiver is gone back to Shaw, the check is in the
bank, a good day.
Saturday October 29, 2016
A few weeks back, we gave our name to visit the new OCC (Okanagan
Correctional Centre) near Oliver.
We are ready to take a guided tour of the new facility before the
inmates arrive.
The OCC is for inmate who are purging a sentence of 2 years minus a day
and for those waiting trial or sentencing.
The OCC is constructed in the industrial area of the Okanagan Indian
Band (OIB).
No photo allowed inside, it makes senses!
With the tour completed, we even got a "Thanks You" card from the OCC.
The OCC is one, if not the most modern prison in North America.
Our guide were correctional officer working at this facility. The
warden has a very proactive view on what a correctional centre should
be. It should be there to help the inmates better
themselves. He and his staff believe that inmates should be
treated with respect and not like animals. You could tell that
his philosophy is shared by his staff. I think it will become a
reference in the future.
It is fall and the leaves may not be red like east, but they are are
pretty non the less.
Some of the vines still have grapes on them. The red arrow points
to the grapes. We think it is to make Ice Wine.
We had a good day. I even started to put away some stuff in the
basement of the MH. I have a few more things to put away tomorrow.
Sunday October 30, 2016
The sun is shinning (a little).
We had to go to town to get a few things.
More photo of leaves.
Once back home, I put the bikes in the car. Why?
We do this when we will be traveling long distance and will not be
using the bikes. It protects them from dirt, water and people
trying to steal them!
Only two sleep and we are crossing the border.
Monday October 31, 2016
Today is the "Get ready to move" day.
Like washing the windshield...
We got all our ducks in a row, we should be leaving the campground at
around 8 tomorrow morning.
