Monday January 16, 2015

After a good lunch, we decided to go and finish the series of caches we had started last week.
This time we will be walking.

Darn!  He took off to fast...

This is the road we walk to look for caches.

We found 12 caches and one we did not find.  We also walked 6 km today.

Tuesday January 17, 2017

Today, we are going to hike Palm Canyon.
We stopped to look for a few caches on the way there!
Michele having fun with shadows.

We are on the south side of Quartzsite.

What a good idea for a cache!

Palm Canyon is located in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge.

We are on our way to this big mountain.

We made a quick stop at the information booth before we continued to the canyon.

Four more miles of gravel road....

This is where Palm Canyon is located.

A "group" photo before we start our hike in the canyon.

This is the canyon where we will find the "Desert Fan Palm or California Fan Palm.

We are going in the canyon.

Michele getting the camera ready for one more group photo.

The two explorers...

It is very impressive standing in the canyon with the walls so high.

We were a little surprised with the palm trees.
I guess we expected to see an oasis of palm trees.
They are way up there in the crevasse...

Zooming in a little.

The view of the valley from the back of the canyon.

When we are about to come out of the canyon.

It looks like a monster!

We are not saying we were disappointed with the Palm Canyon, just a little surprised by how high and far they were.
It is still worth your time to go and hike this canyon.

Tonight is poker night at the club house.  Michele went to play, but not me.  Poker just does not do it for me.

It was a good day.

Wednesday January 18, 2017

What, no photo today?
We went to town on our bikes just to see what was going on.
The traffic has increase quite a bit in the last few days.
This is because of the "Quartzsite Sport, Vacation & RV Show" starting on the 21st and going through the 29th.
We will be going to the show for a few afternoon this week.

Thursday January 19, 2017

We are making some changes in the MH.
We moved all the dry goods we do not use often from the "kitchen" to under the bed and taking the stuff from under the bed (pots and pans, crock-pot) to the 'kitchen".

Why did we do this move?
Simply to make life a little easier.  Of course we will probably do some small adjustments over the next few weeks.

It started to rain, we are staying indoor.
They have a movie playing at the club house tonight, I am going, but Michele is staying home.

Friday January 20, 2017

When we did the series of caches in the desert, we have not found a few of them.  I placed them on my "watch" list to see if anybody else will find them.  So, many have been found lately, mostly because the owner of the caches has replaced them with new one.
We are going back in the desert to see if we can find them now.

We have found 3 of them that had been replaced.

Since we are that far down the road, we decided to go farther and check out the "end" of the road...
Does this mean you will be dead?

We finally placed the gecko and the kokopeli we bought in Mexico.

The RV Park offers 3 lectures over the next 3 Saturdays and they are free!
Today's lecture is about RV Safety.

Michele and I went to the lecture, you never know what you might learn.
We did learn a few things.  One of them is that a smoke detector in an RV is not built the same as a smoke detector for a house.  They are more rugged.

It started to rain and got really windy, another evening watching TV.

Saturday January 21, 2017

No rain today, but still on the cool side with a maximum of +16°C.
Today is the first day of the RV Show.  The arrow points to the BIG tent where all the vendors are located.  You can get anything RV related and even not RV related...  They also have RVs for sale around the big tent.
It is very crowded.

We went with the car and after 20 minutes looking for a parking, we gave up.  On our way out of the parking lot, we almost got stuck in a wash (canal).  We went back home and took the bikes to go back to the RV Show.  No problems parking this time!

We met Joyce and Rick, people from the North Shores RV Park back in Ontario.  We must have talked for about half an hour just catching up on news.  After we left them, 200 feet further, we met Jannie and Jan who are participating at an Entegra Coach rally in the desert near Quartzsite.

My new friend!

We looked at everything quickly, we will come back for a better look.  Too many people in here!

Michele doing some serious reading...

When will the warm weather come back?
It seems that when we pick a place for the winter, we pick the place where it turns out to be "unusually cold" that winter!!!
Right now it is warm in Florida and Texas, but cold here in Quartzsite/Yuma area...  We would love days at +25°C.
Not that we are complaining, we know how cold it is in Canada right now.  I am just saying!

Sunday January 22, 2017

We woke up with on and off rain and a "warm" +12C.
We decide to go for a drive and see the town of Parker, just north of Quartzsite.
There is a lot of traffic going south on US-95 today.  Lots of RV on the road.

Parker is bigger than Quartzsite.  They even have a Walmart!

After we visited the three grocery stores, we had lunch at the local Chinese restaurant.  It was good.

On our way out of town, we saw an electronic sign warning us that tomorrow the weather will turn nasty with rain, ice and snow.
Goodbye Parker!

We had a high of +16°C today.

Monday January 23, 2015

The forecast was for rain and high wind, it did not rain, but the wind was there.

After lunch, we decided to bike in town while looking for geocaches.  I did some kind of a route to get the caches.
It is a good thing the sidewalks are in good shape because on the road the drivers here are not very good.  Think about an old people that can't see very well driving a 45 foot MH.

A nice looking cactus.

Our route takes us to the east side of town at the Quartzsite sign.
Off course, a cache is here.

A cactus blooming.

A cache at the base of this dead tree.

One more cache near this small air park.

One of the small park with a cache.

On our way back, we had to battle a strong headwind.
We found 14 caches and biked 9 km.

Tuesday January 24, 2017

I went to the windshield repair place in town to get a small bullseye repaired on the car.
At the same time, I stopped at the RV Show to see if the vendor I bought my crocks will agree to exchange them for one size bigger.
Surprise!  I found a parking spot right away and the vendor exchanged my crocks no problems...
I manage to get out of the parking fast and I even hit all the green light on the way home.

I played giant Jenga for about an hour after lunch at the RV Park.

My appointment for the windshield is for 3 o'clock and of course they are late.  I finally got out of there by four thirty with the bullseye repaired.

Wednesday January 25, 2017

What is that white stuff on the car?

Even if it is cold, we are out biking and looking for geocaches.
Here we are at the start of the series...

Of course, we have fun with photos.

We have found 25 caches and covered 13.5 km on our bicycles.

A good day.

Thursday January 26, 2017

What? Another morning with white stuff!

I had to set my alarm clock early this morning so I would not forget to go for the free coffee and donuts at the club house.

We are back at the RV Show this afternoon.
Do you want food?  They have a lot of food here and it smells darn good...

We are on our way to the big tent.

I found more info about the RV Show.
The tent is the length of two football fields with more than 600 vendors inside.

We had a nice campfire at the RV Park this evening.

A good day!

Friday January 27, 2017

We are on the way to Blythe, California for a few hours to have a look.  We are on the Interstate 10 west.

In any roads going into California, you have a "California Agriculture Station".  It is an inspection station to make sure you do not bring fruits or other kinds of citrus into California.  It is to protect the crops and prevent disease.

In Blythe, we stopped at the local K-Mart and the two groceries store.

With our shopping done, we head back to Quartzsite.  Quartzsite is on the other side of the mountains.

We are back home just in time for the seminar on "Maintenance & Repairs".

Once again, we have learned a few things about RVs.

Jannie and Jan have invited us, Rick and Joyce for a happy hour this afternoon.  Got to have fun with the photos!

Once again, we had a lot of fun with our friends.

Saturday January 28, 2017

Today is the "Canadian Pot Luck Lunch" at the community hall in Quartzsite.  We are going with our neighbor/friends Brian and Trish.

They had 185 Canadians participating at the pot luck.  They supplied the main course and we supplied the rest, like salads and dessert.
We had a lot of fun with Brian and Trish.

It is with our belly full that we headed back to the RV Park.
At the RV Park, they had a group of native explaining and doing dances.

They had question periods about the dances, the clothing, etc.
They were very happy to answer all the questions.

They had everybody participating in this dance.

The two native dancers offered a feather to both of the park owner.  Jeff and his wife were very touched by the gesture.

The dances and explications were very interesting, but the part that left me a little unsure was the constant pushing of the church and religion.  This is only my opinion, other spectators enjoyed it.

Sunday January 29, 2017

I decided this morning to check the sacrificial anode in the hot water tank.  While I had the anode out, I flushed the tank as well.
The arrow indicates the location of the anode on the hot water tank.  On the right hand side photo, you can see the anode from our tank and below is a new anode.  It was more than time to change the anode.

What?  Another pot luck?
This one is taking place here at the RV Park.  We were at least 40 people participating.

The RV Park supplied the main course (chicken) and the campers supplied the rest.

The food was very good, we enjoyed the pot luck.

I did a lot of reading today, the same for Michele.  Michele hurt her back a little, she was reading in bed trying to find a comfortable position.

Monday January 30, 2015

I am out and about looking for caches this morning.
I came back with 7 caches found and 15 km on the bike.

In the afternoon we took the car to continue a series of cache we started a few days back.
We are driving next to some mountains.

What a funny looking cactus.

I have showed you the Cholla cactus or the Jumping cactus before.
When the new growth on the end of the branches are mature, they can stick on anything they touch.
The wind can make the fall on the ground too.  You have to be careful not to walk on them.

The little town of Quartzsite in the distance.

When you walk in the desert, you get needles in our shoes...
This is the end of a needles in my shoe.

It hurts my foot when I walked...

We found a total of 25 caches today.

Tonight, we played bingo for a little over an hour and did not win anything.

We had a beautiful +24°C today.

Tuesday January 31, 2017

A quiet morning, but we did go in town in the afternoon to walk another small flea market.

We are having chicken for diner tonight.

The weather is still warming up and we are not complaining.

Michele went to play poker at the club house, but she did not win...

Until next time.

Life is good...
