We had rain from about 7pm last night until about 8am this morning and
it
was coming down pretty hard all night.
Here is what some part of the park looks like!
The owner was telling us he had to cancel all the reservation for the
overnight because of the flooding. It is the same in all the RV
park in the area.
In the afternoon we went to the Re-Store in Belleville to have a look
around.
Of course we had to stop at "our place" to check the mail...
The weather has turned cool again and it is only +12 C, but we have no
rain. An evening of TV and computers...
Saturday May 17, 2014
Michele found a used electric lawnmower on Kijiji for only $40 and we
are picking it up this morning.
We cannot go wrong for $40 for the summer.
The Trenton base is really getting a lot of construction again this
year.
Our new neighbor, Claude and Joanne, they are from Kingston. They
are super nice.
Oupppss! We have a wine and cheese and I forgot to take photos!
It has been 10 years since the owner came to Canada and bought this
campground and they are putting on a free beer keg tonight with the
wine and cheese. We are at the same table as Claude and Joanne
and had a great time. We also got to know more of the
campers. It was a very good evening.
Sunday May 18, 2014
Jeremy has too much homework to come for a visit so we are going to
visit him in Borden.
We get up early to leave by 6 am and surprise! We have frost on the
car, on 18th May?? Where is spring????
The drive to Borden is pretty fast as there are very few cars on the
road on this Sunday of a long weekend.
We only hit some fog for a few minutes .
We meet Jeremy at 9 am on base.
A treat, a lunch at eh Chinese buffet...
Family photo!
The last time we saw Jeremy was at his place in Moose Jaw on November
11, just before we started our migration south for the winter.
He will try to come for a visit before his course is over, but if he
can't, we will come back for a day before he leaves.
We will see each other again when we go for a visit this summer in
Moose Jaw. We will Danielle and Gabriel who we miss a lot.
As for the weather, we cannot wait for the "real" spring to get here.
With all the rain we had, we have a lot of standing water and the bugs
are really starting to come out...
Monday, Tuesday May 19 and 20, 2014
We are getting into the groove of things.
Monday was just an ordinary day and the weather is still on the cool
side because we are so close to Lake Ontario.
Tuesday, we went looking for firewood.
Sadly, the directions I got were a little confusing to me and we kind
of went around and around for a bit. We did not find the place.
Back home I looked it up on the internet and finally found the place,
tomorrow maybe?
The park owner were looking for a volunteer to sort the empty bottles
and cans. The money they collect from the summer is used to
purchase equipment for the community hall. It all goes back to
the campers in a way. I think it is a good deal.
I ended up volunteering for the job, it is only once a week for about
an hour.
Jan, the owner, explains to me how the sorting goes, pretty easy, but
it still has to be done the right way. It is unbelievable the
amount of cans and bottles are generated by just a little over RV 100
sites. Good, more money for us campers.
Wednesday May 21, 2014
WOW! The weather has turned warm! I took the opportunity to
ready the news outside.
Back to the firewood quest, we found the sawmill and for only $60,
delivery included, we will have firewood.
It is not nice logs, but slates from when the square off a tree.
Good for us. You will get photos when we have the firewood.
Thursday May 22, 2014
At twelve thirty, we had an appointment to re-evaluate the hearing lose
for Michele and for my tinnitus.
Michele's hearing has dropped quite a bit in the past four years and my
tinnitus has increased.
Michele will be getting hearing aids paid by the Veterans Affair.
Now all that has to happen is for the paperwork to go to the Veterans
Affair. For me, the specialist recommended a "masking device" for
my tinnitus, we will see what Veterans Affair will do! My hearing
is still close to be perfect so this is some good news.
As we were coming back home, we stopped at the small thrift shop and I
found a hot air popcorn maker for only $9.
It works well, but the popcorn is a little "dull". I will have to
buy some popcorn powder to add flavor.
We were looking for a used laptop for Benoit because his got into an
"accident".
We found one on Kijiji for a good price.
I cannot help myself, but I have to tell you what our youngest son did
today. He is 26 years old.
On his way to work, he was in the Montreal metro and a young man laid
down on the metro tracks wanting to kill himself. Benoit and
another man talked to him and convinced him to come back on the
platform before the metro came in. Benoit and this man prevented
a
suicide. We are so proud of our son. Good job Benoit!!!
While we were buying the laptop, our firewood arrived at the campsite.
With the weather forecast calling for rain (again), we decided to stack
it now before the rain.
As you can see, it is only slates, but for $60 you cannot go
wrong. Some of them are pretty thick.
We finished the day with a good game of hockey between Montreal
Canadians and the New York Rangers.
The HABS won this one in overtime...
Friday May 23, 2014
No rain this morning, I used that time to cut the grass before the rain
came.
Here is the lawnmower from hell. For $40 it is not bad at all.
By twelve thirty the rain started, you know the type of rain that seems
to
go on forever, non stop, steady!
So, we and Michele spend the afternoon inside. I played around on
Benoit's laptop for a while and also made to progress on our web page.
Every Friday evening, they have fun darts at the community hall.
We went because we like darts and it was a good way to meet new people
from the park.
We had a great time and the people are just plain fun to be around.
After darts, when we got home, Michele mentioned that it would be nice
to have a fire. A good time to use our propane fire pit.
It was very nice as you can use it under the awning and when it is time
to go in, you just turn the valve off and it is done!
This was a good day.
Saturday May 24, 2014
The sun is there when I got up and the temperature is climbing steadily.
Michele went to the local yard sales and I stayed home to putter
around. I read the paper outside with a good coffee, in the sun.
I went biking around the park, did some socializing with other campers,
the good life!
Michele got back around 11 and mentioned that she saw a really nice
swing. Off I go with Michele to check it out. By the time
we got there it was gone, maybe next time!
I spent the afternoon doing some small chores, reading the news on my
tablet, biking, etc.
By late afternoon we were under a severe thunderstorm watch. I
place everything in the right place, put away what needed to be put
away in case of strong winds. Some wicked clouds went by us, but
we only got a few rain drop and nothing more, good!
We had a quiet evening and the temperature dropped rapidly with the
wind coming off the lake. By 9 pm it was already down to 10 C.
Sunday May 25, 2014
Another do as little as possible day.
Listened to the news on the radio while reading the news on my tablet...
Once more, by late afternoon we are under severe thunderstorm watch and
15 minutes later it is over, no rain at all.
During the afternoon I also talked to my brother Rolland on skype to
set up a time for them to come down camping our way.
Tomorrow morning I will have to check with the office to make the
reservation for him.
We finished the day with the hockey game on TV. Montreal
Canadians did not play very well tonight and they lost.
Monday May 26, 2014
In the morning, I did the cans and bottles sorting for the RV park.
Next, I went to the post office to mail a parcel to my brother Rolland
in Quebec.
In the afternoon, I went for a bike ride and the wind was just
wicked. I still did 18 kilometers.
We had a good diner because we have to fast until tomorrow for our
blood work.
It looked like all the commercials on TV were about food!
Tuesday May 27, 2014
This was an early morning for Michele. On our way to LifeLabs for the
blood works, I realize that I forgot my wallet back home. Too
late, we were in the parking lot of LifeLabs. Usually you need an
ID card to confirm you are who you are. LifeLabs here is Trenton
is a small place and after talking to the nurse I could give blood no
problems.
We were a little pressed for time because our other appointment was at
the dentist and it is in Belleville. We made it and we were only
10 minutes late.
The hygienist and the dentist were surprised with all our new
teeth. Needless to say, our cleaning was fast and no problems
were found.
We were back home in time for lunch. In the afternoon, I went to
the saw mill to order some fire wood for our neighbor.
The evening was spent in front of the TV watching the hockey game
between Montreal and New York.
Montreal won 7 to 4.
Wednesday, Thursday May 28 and 29, 2014
Wednesday was an uneventful day.
Thursday Michele and I went to a yard sale that is starting today and
it is for 9 families. We could not find it, I guess there was a
mistake on the add.
On our way back from the "yard sale", we stopped at the GM dealer to
book and appointment for the recall on our car. The service
manager told us it would take a while because most of the replacement
parts were sent to the US first and Canada is second for the parts.
It is what it is.
Once we were back home I got and email from our neighbor Johanne
telling us she will be arriving soon.
She is off work for medical reasons. She loves hockey so we
offered her to watch the game with us outside.
We watched the game with the propane campfire in front of us...
The temperature turned a little on the cool side so Johanne went home
in the middle of the 3rd period. We watched the rest of the game
inside to.
It was a nice evening.
Friday May 30, 2014
Michele had an appointment at Helix in Belleville to get her hearing
aids.
I was with Michele during the appointment because we figured that
between the two of us, we should not miss anything.
We were in the office for over an hour. A big part of the
appointment was to make sure the hearing aids were properly setup for
Michele's hearing problems. We were impresses with the quality
and the performance of such a small hearing aids.
Here are the two hearing aids for Michele. The big part is where
the mikes, and other electronics are located. Next is the wire
going from the mikes to the speaker. That is the tube like part
at the end of the wire. Michele told me it is very light and she
said she did not notice them after a few hours.
This is the drying and sterilizations "oven". It has an
ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and sterile and the warm air moving
around the "oven" helps to dry out everything.
Michele is very happy with her hearing aids, she can now hear a lot
more sounds than before. Plus, veteran affair pays for everything.
A treat for us, we had lunch at the buffet Garden.
Every Friday evening there is darts in the club house. We played
well, but had to fold on the second last game...
Michele was enjoying her hearing aid a lot that evening.
A good day and a new "toy" for Michele to get used to. Me too, I
have some adjustment to do with Michele hearing better then before.
Saturday May 30, 2014
Michele went to yard sales this morning and she only got back a one
thirty in the afternoon.
Right after lunch, our neighbor asked me if I wanted to go for a boat
ride with them. Of course I did. We were on the water for over 2
hours. It was a lot of fun, thank you Johanne and Claude.
After diner, we had a good campfire for a few hours.
