A slow day, but also getting ready for our trip back to St-Jérôme,
Québec to take Christianne back to her home.
We end the day by playing a few hands of a new card game Christianne
showed us. The Matte have won all the games for the past two
evening.
Thursday July 17, 2014
Driving by Belleville and the Canadian (flower) flag on our way to
Quebec.
I almost always make a slight detour and used the Thousand Islands
Parkway. It is so beautiful.
We have lunch at this burger place in Alexandria. Good food.
The trip was uneventful. At Christianne's place, she cooked up a
pizza with flat bead and hot dog wieners. It is very good!
Christianne also made us a black curtain for the basement. It
will go behind the TV and hide the basement stuff while we watch TV .
Friday July 18, 2014
Before we head back to Trenton, we stop once again to visit my Mom.
This time, she is a lot better even if she still does not recognize
us. I guess the antibiotics she was taking were making her
Alzheimer worst. This time she is way more alert.
We leave Christianne behind and head home. Before we leave we say
our goodbyes.
Christianne, it was a pleasure to have you with us for a week.
The trip back was a piece a cake. I cut the grass when I got home
and even went playing darts at the club house. Michele stayed
home with the laptop and the TV.
Saturday July 19, 2014
This is another day of doing nothing.
I started a new book from a lady from the RV park. It is the
story of her life and so far it is quite a story.
I also installed the curtain Christianne made for us.
It looks really good.
Michèle catching up on laundry.
We went to the pool and as soon as we got in the water, the sun went
behind the clouds. The water was still good at 27C (80F).
The RV park is celebrating Easter in the summer and they had activities
for the kids all day. For supper they even had a meal for the
campers. The meal was ham, scallops potatoes and all kinds of
other stuff.
Thank you ladies for a great meal and superb service.
The rain started by five pm and did not stop until the next morning.
It was an indoor evening.
Sunday July 20, 2014
The rain did not stop until 11 am. As soon as the sun came out,
the humidity went up.
I am reading a book, a biography of a lady living in the park.
Her story is simply incredible. I will let you know more about
the book in a few days.
After lunch I did some pool time, more reading, social visits and back
in the pool. I also gave a hand cutting up the ham left overs.
We ended the day with white wine and a (real) campfire.
Monday July 21, 2014
The morning starts with the sorting of the cans and bottles.
After that, I start my bike riding again.
I do a nice 10 km ride. It is a nice ride along the lake
Ontario. As you have seen, I have done this circuit before.
On my left, the canal between Wellers Bay and Lake Ontario. There
are a few cottages along the road.
The next place I come to is one of the Murray Canal crossing.
There are two bridges to cross the Murray Canal and this in one of
them. The swing bridge allows boats to get to lake Ontario
without having to go all the way around the Prince Edwards County land
mass.
It is also part of the Trent-Savern Waterway National Historic Site of Canada.
If your boat goes under the bridge it does not cost you any money, but
if they have to swing the bridge, it will cost you a large $4.90.
The gentleman from Park Canada collecting the fee for the swing bridge.
A view of the canal looking east towards Trenton. In the distance
you can see more boats coming towards us.
And I finally get back home to our RV park.
During the afternoon we went to Brighton and checked out a welding shop
who can repair the damage done when I overfilled the water tank.
They can do it and we set up an appointment for August 18 at 9
am. After that, we did a little grocery shopping.
The balance of the day was mostly reading, pool, reading.
Tuesday July 22, 2014
Another hot day, the forecast calls for a high of 30 with the humidex
of 38.
I get my riding done before it gets too hot. Another 10 km.
Here is the swing bridge in the open position.
A cute little sail boat goes by.
Swinging back into position.
I spend a lot of time at the pool because of the heat.
I got a call from GM about the recall for the car. We have an
appointment for Thursday afternoon.
Wednesday July 23, 2014
Today we head back to Brighton to pick-up a small part the welding
shop has made for us. It is for the motorhome door.
We stop by Trenton for a little grocery shopping and pick up the
mail. We got very good news from Veterans Affair, Michele's claim
for her hearing loss is accepted.
On our way back home we saw this Hercules airplane flying sideways
because of the strong winds. The photo does not really show you
how sideways it was flying.
Thursday July 24, 2014
Just as I was getting ready for my bike ride, a group of campers is
also getting ready for a bike ride. So we went together.
It was a good ride.
Today being Thursday, it is "Beer Time" at the club house
tonight. Michele did not feel like it so I went alone.
Friday July 25, 2014
Around eleven o'clock I started the repair on the motorhome door.
I only have to install a small part that was broken off last winter
when the wing caught the door and over opened it. I should not
take over an hour.
I have to remove a door panel to gain access to the door mechanism.
On the left, an overall view of the mechanism and on the right photo,
the two arrows indicate the two attaching point for the new part.
A simple job.
Some modification and adjustment on the new part.
Four hours later I am finally done!!! Why four hours and not one
hour? Because nothing is simple!
First, I had to drill out a rivet. To do that I had to take out
the whole system out, simple isn't? No!
The inside of the gray "box" is all springs and really hard to get back
together. On top of that, we had to go to Trenton to get a
special bolt to replace the rivet. Of course the new bolt is just
a fraction of an inch too long... We did find a solution to that
problem.
When the part broke last winter it also stretched a few other
parts. They had to be re-adjusted.
Finally, it is all done and it works great.
We got some roses for the motorhome when we were in town.
Delima and Jay invited us for diner. They are at Cederdale
park. It is only 5 km away from us.
Jay is a very good cook, the meal was simple, but tasty.
Group shot.
Thank you Delima and Jay for a very good meal and great evening.
Saturday July 26, 2014
This morning I washed all the outside windows of the motorhome. I
even cleaned all the clearance light. I also washed all the
screens for the windows. I "washed" the motorhome with the dollar
store pledge. I am about half done for the wash.
The RV park has many activities today.
This afternoon they have a Toga Party at one of the campers site.
A horse shoe tournament under the willows trees.
Michele decided to play horse shoe. I was the cheering crowd.
A great view of the horse shoe pit and the bay.
Towards the park.
The big tree is the reason it is referred to "under the willows".
Michele is getting ready to play.
Michele in action and on the right, Brian, Michele's partner.
An alcoholic dog?
One more action shot. Michele and Brian are very good, they have
not lost yet.
At the last game, the score is 10 to 10. The volunteer score
keeper.
Michèle and Brian won the tournament. It was a good afternoon
under the willows.
Tonight is bingo night. We are only 8 players because most people
are getting ready for the dance after the bingo. The dance
is "Hillbilly Hoe down".
The two volunteer working the bingo.
We did not win anything at bingo.
We are not going to the dance so we are having a nice quiet evening at
home.
Sunday July 27, 2014
What a night we had last night. It started at three thirty.
We had a thunder storm that lasted for over one and half hour. We
even lost power for a few hours. We did not sleep well with all
the noise the storm made.
I spend the morning reading the news and get more of the blog done.
I continue the wash job on the motorhome in the afternoon.
It was a busy week at the park.
Monday July 28, 2014
Rain and cool weather for us today. We spend most of the day
indoor watching movies.
Tuesday July 29, 2014
I am going for a bike ride with Marie, Wayne, Johanne and Claude.
Just a short 10 k ride as usual.
The canal between Wellers Bay and Lake Ontario.
It was a good ride.
While I was on the RV park wharf I saw this swan with her babies.
I think she tells them to " dip your head in the water and find food".
"and now lets change place".
We are in Trenton in the afternoon and we so a small grocery.
The weather is still on the cool for this time of year.
We also chatted for a while with our neighbors, Johanne and
Claude, for a bit.
During the evening Michele and I started to talk about this coming
winter, I know it is still a long way, and where we are going to spend
it.
So far, our two option are Texas or Florida.
Wednesday July 30, 2014
It is warming up a little, up to +19 today, but with a wind that has
some bite to it.
We have an afternoon of reading.
Thursday July 31, 2014
Part of the day is to prepare for tomorrow and our trip to Michel's
brother place in Quebec. We should stay there for a little over a
week. We are not taking the motorhome with us as we will be
sleeping in their 5th wheel. We can't wait to see them again.
Not wanting to change the routine, we are off to the Thursday night
beer at the clubhouse.
