Time to empty the black and gray water and fill up with fresh
water. We have to pack and go to another campground to do
this. It is only 3 miles down the road.
We were lucky because we only had to wait three minutes at the dump
station.
Here we are driving back to La Posa North.
Once we are all re-installed, I go for a bike ride in town. While
in town I purchased three LED light for the bathroom.
I have to take down the light fixture to do some modification...
I have to cut 1/4 of an inch to allow the LED light to fit.
When it was dark, I tried them on and I am happy with the results.
Some campers have a good sense of humor.
This evening is a TV evening. What a beautiful sunset!
Our first week in the desert is going nicely.
Monday February 17, 2014
Not much about today, reading, biking and Olympic Games.
Tuesday February 18, 2014
No bike ride for today. I went for a walk down in a wash for a
few kilometers.
Our site.
This is the bottom of the wash, I was walking on.
Time to catch up on laundry.
We finish the day with some reading and watching the Olympics.
Wednesday February 19, 2014
My bike ride takes me to the residential area of Quartzsite. With
only 3000 permanent residents here in Quartzsite, there are not many
residential area.
A cute house made up as a western village.
One dried up cactus.
A beautiful house. I only saw two or three beautify houses in
Quartzsite.
In the afternoon, we are off to the secondhand bookstore. This
store is very popular with customer because the owner is naked except
for a small bag covering his penis. The place is really clean,
but the prices are a little on the expense side for used books.
Thursday February 20, 2014
Biking, reading and watching the games.
Friday February 21, 2014
My glasses are finally ready.
Off we go to Mexico. Mexico is about one and half hour from here.
Spring is just starting here in the southwest desert. Some bushes
have flower and we even saw some grass in a few places.
I leave Michele at the shopping mall in Yuma and I go by myself to
Mexico.
Here is the place I purchased my glasses.
The line to get back in the US is very long, I waited one and half hour
to get through.
It was a long wait.
I pick up Michele at the mall and we have supper at an Asian Buffet.
The food was OK.
With a belly full, we stop at Walmart for a few groceries and we head
back home.
WE had to slow right down to let a few deers cross the road..
This is the first time we see deers in Arizona.
Saturday February 22, 2014
Time to dump the gray and black water and fill up with fresh water.
Here, we are in the line at the dumps station.
45 minutes later we are back at our site.
For lunch I want a toasted sandwich, so I start the generator to get
some electricity for the toaster. Surprise! No electricity.
Something else broke down. After some troubleshooting, I figured
it was the transfer switch.
Off I go to town looking far a transfer switch. I take the switch cover
with me because it has all the information about the switch.
Luck is with me, I found one and of course because it is for an RV, it
is expensive. $240.00 later I have a new one.
After some small modification to the box, I replace the old one with
the new one.
There is not a lot of room to work in there.
After 2 hours, I finally get the new one in, time to see if it works.
Michele starts the generator and 30 second later we have electricity.
Michèle having fun with shadows.
As the sun goes down it lights up the mountains to the east, real
pretty.
Pretty skies.
Campfire evening for us.
Sunday February 23, 2014
We are out of bed by four am and in front of the TV looking at the
hockey game between Sweden and Canada, they are playing for the gold
medal.
Sunrise as we watch the game.
Canada wins the game and the gold Olympics Games medal.
Shortly after the hockey game is over, we will have the closing
ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Olympics Games.
Taking a little nap before the ceremonies...
Late afternoon, I am skyping with my sister Christianne and we see a
Roadrunner go by.
We sure watched a lot of TV during the last two weeks because of the
Olympics.
Now we can go back to our regular routine...
Monday and Tuesday February 24 and 25, 2014
Monday is a laid-back day, some reading, biking and coming back to our
normal routine after the Olympics.
Tuesday, we are going for a walk in the mountains.
On our way we saw some mountain quails. They look funny with the
feather on top of their head...
At the base of the mountain, we use the quad trails to go up.
This way we should not get lost.
The south-west desert is not made uniquely of sand, but a lot of rocks
Pretty Michele!
As I said, spring is starting here in the south-west.
We found this very small flower.
The south-west is a very harsh environment as you can see.
I think this is a quartz patch.!
An "Ocotillo"
with some flowers blooming. This is not a cactus, but a desert
plant.
The valley with Quartzsite at the bottom.
It was a short hike, only 2.5 kilometers.
Wednesday and Thursday February 26 and 27, 2014
Not much happened on Wednesday.
Thursday morning, I check the weather for the towns and cities we will
be traveling through tomorrow and it does not look good.
Rain, thunder storms with high winds.
We push our departure to Monday morning.
We still have to dump today.
Here I am filling the fresh water tank.
And rolling up the fresh water hose...
Some people are very well equipped for the desert camping...
After lunch we go into town for some groceries.
The wind is picking up today and it causes some small sand storms like
this one.
And it is coming towards us as we drive away.
The sand storms are small, but it sure bring a lot of sand into the
motorhome.
I just happen to look outside when the wind moves the shelter of our
neighbor.
Off I go to help her fold it.
She is from B.C. She is a children's book author. She
is a very nice lady.
Friday February 28, 2014
The forecast for today is calling for 50% chance of rain and possible
thunder storms. Wind of 30 km/h with gust of 50 km/h
I go for a bike ride before the wind picks up.
You can see how a Saguaro cactus is built.
After lunch, the wind picks up and you can see the results.
We are lucky because where we are situated we hardly have sand flying
around, but still.
Look at the furniture! Michele dusted the furniture at 10 this
morning and here it is at 4 in the afternoon.
We sure will have to do one hell of a cleanup once we are out of the
desert.
An elderly couple are having a hard time closing their awning so out I
go to help them out.
Friday night is bingo night in Quartzsite. It is a little more
expensive the camping bingo, but I won at the "double action" game and
picked up $90. Not bad at all!
Our day was spent inside because of the high wind.
Tomorrow it is supposed to get better.
