This morning, the RV park has breakfast for the campers and it is eggs
in a bag.
We forgot to take photos of the final result.
I will make some later on and take photos at that time.
In the afternoon, the RV park has a dart tournament and Michele and I
want to play.
During my practice throw I could barely make it to the board. A
few days ago, a tendon snapped in my elbow and now I cannot throw darts.
Michele does play.
Her team wins the tournament.
The winning team, Michele, Ray and France.
After a spaghetti dinner, the men do the dishes...
This is for our friend June from North Carolina.
Dry golden raisin soaked in gin. Homemade remedy to
prevent/combat arthritis.
Here we are with the "prescription" raisins.
Another good day.
Sunday August 17, 2014
A sunny day, but the wind is still strong
I cannot believe we are in the shade!
The RV park has an Show & Shine in the park. With the rain we
had lately, the road is pretty muddy so a lot of car owners have not
come.
Rolland knew there was another Show & Shine in Trenton this evening.
Regardless of the weather, we had a very good week.
Rolland and Suzie are leaving tomorrow and for ourselves, we will go to
the welder for the structure repair.
Monday August 18, 2014
It is 8 o'clock in the morning and we are on our way to the welding
shop for the repair on the motorhome...
This place was recommended by quite a few people in the park. We
are now in position and Rocky is a very very friendly dog.
Our appointment was for 9 am. We got a call shortly after 1 pm
telling us that everything is ready for us.
Here are the 3 cross members that bent or broke.
Once the bill is paid, we are heading back home, but first a stop for
propane. We ran out of propane a few days ago.
This is the first time we put 111 liters of propane, we were very dry...
After we got settle back on our site, I took some photos of the repairs.
The red arrows indicates all the new cross members and caps that was
installed. On the right, the damage before the repair.
We had budgeted a fair amount of $$ for the repair, but it turned out
to
be cheaper that expected. Great!
Tuesday August 19, 2014
A very hot and humid day, after I cut my neighbor's lawn, I went to the
pool to cool off.
The wind at the pool is on the cool side and we are back under the
awning for some reading.
Michele in the reading position...
Wednesday August 20, 2014
I would like to show you a different, easy way to clean the grill on
you BBQ.
So after I cooked some sausages...
That makes a mess of a BBQ grill.
Manon's brother-in-law showed me this, I am sure many of you know this
already.
With the grill hot, you dip your brush in water and brush the
grill. The water turns to steam, but not before dislodging the
cooked/baked on grease and other stuff from the grill.
Number 1 indicates how clean it is after using water on the brush.
Number 2 and 3 indicates some the bristles left behind the brush...
Before you cook anything on your BBQ, you should check for those small
metallic bristles and remove them.
They will get into the food you are cooking with bad results for your
body.
I love this tip. First for the cleaning and second for the
warning about the little pieces of metal that could be very dangerous
to your inside.
Thanks to Manon's brother-in-law Denis (not me, but another one).
Thursday August 21, 2014
While we were in Quebec a GPS became on special in Canadian Tire and I
bought it!
Here it is, a Magellan Explorist 310.
So, this afternoon we use it for the first time for "geocaching".
What is geocaching? To really know what it all about, click
here.
I will still tell you a little about it.
People around the world hide a "treasure" and you have to find it!
Simple, not always, I connect my GPS to my laptop and go to the
geocaching web site and find caches close to us. I then
downloaded
them to my GPS. The next step is to locate the cache using the
GPS co-ordinates and hints from the web site.
So, we are looking for our first cachepots.
The GPS gets you very close to the cache, but you still have to go into
the bush and find it.
It is behind Michele about 6 feet in.
This particular cache is called a "micro" cache, so it is a little more
difficult to find.
Can you see it?
Here it is!
Inside you have a piece of paper to write your name and date to prove
you found
it.
Our first cache took 15 minutes to find, not bad at all.
Off we go for the next one. 15 minutes later we got it, but it
was a lot harder to find.
Can you see it?
Not that easy!
This cache took us next to the Murray canal and a military chopper
happen to fly over us.
On last one, this one a different because it is something you must
see...
The GPS tell us it is in this area...
Can you see the object?
A plastic snake!
We really enjoyed this activity, it makes you go out and walk/bike
about.
As usual, like every Thursday evening we go for the beer at the club
house/community hall and this night was a particularly good one.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday August 22 to 24, 2014
Jay, Delima, Andy, Pearl, Barbara and the kids are camping in this
campground. We are very happy to have then close to us as they
are good people.
Of course we had a campfire every evening with them. On Friday
evening Michele had some dart games to play and come join us later on.
A very nice evening with good friends.
Saturday, we spend a big part of the day with our friends.
Michele has a dart tournament in the afternoon. I would have loved to
play, but my elbow is still bothering me.
She did not win this time...
The winning team. Dennis, Marc and Joyce.
Our friends are right by the water. On the left, Andy and Pearl
and to the left Jay and Delima. Barbara and her son Luka spend
the night with Andy and Pearl.
Andrea, her husband and the kids also spent the day with us.
The kids are having fun with the karts.
Michele in deep conversation with Pearl.
We are invited for dinner with them and it is very good. An
evening by the fire with good conversation and good people. Some
marshmallows and other sweets.
We left our friends late in the evening. We had to stop for a
drink at another party in the park. We did stay for only one beer
as we were not in the same "state" as they were. It was funny to
watch them do!
Sunday, we enjoyed our friends some more. A friend of ours,
Charles, challenged me to the ice bucket challenge. As I was
biking back to our place, the owner and other passenger of the golf
cart told me they were going to do the ice bucket, I could watch.
I told them I was challenged and they said "join us". So I did!
Here is the water and ice.
There are four of us getting iced...
L to R, Jan, Jannie, me and Liza. We are waiting...
It is not warm! I get away relatively good. Of course I
had to challenge 3 more people to the ice bucket challenged.
My brother, Rolland, a friend, Louise and another friend Jay who is
camping with us...
Ouffff!
Pearl and André are spending an extra night with us, but we did not
stay very
late as they are tired and so are we...
Monday August 25, 2014
Another hot and humid day today. Of course, it is the weekend is
over!
As every Monday morning, I sorted last week cans and bottles.
André and Pearl are leaving us this morning. They are going to
their daughter Barbara who lives about 20 km from here.
Goodbye and we probably will see you when we come back from
Saskatchewan in a few weeks.
Most of the day is spent at the pool and some serious reading.
Tuesday August 26, 2014
My bike ride took me for 15 kilometers and on top of that I did some
more geocaching. I found two more caches.
It is still hot and muggy today.
Wednesday August 27, 2014
The nights are on the humid side at +19 C and we run the AC all night
so we can get a better night of sleep.
I think the humidity is going to break today, it is already cooler in
the morning.
I am off for another bike ride this morning, a good 14 km. I am
not as dedicated as my friend Charles who does 30 to 60 km a day!
I now have two more geochache found.
This one is in the dead tree. Can you see the box in the photo on
the right?
As for the other cache, I forgot to take a photo...
What a beautiful location for a house!
And look at this sail boat anckered at the mouth of the Murray Canal.
Finally the humidity is gone, but it is still warm outside. I am
not complaining...
Thursday August 28, 2014
Our plans for the trip to Saskatchewan my change. We are supposed
to leave Monday morning to visit our son, his girlfriend and grandson.
With this in mind, I "pre-load" the car as much as possible.
Like every Thursday evening I am going to the "Thursday beer call" at
the club house. Michele stays hame and watch the tennis finals.
Friday August 29, 2014
During breakfast, I checked my email and Jeremy has sent us an email
asking us if we can come early for the visit.
I wake up Michele, finish loading the car and we are on the road to
Saskatchewan by 10 am.
See you later motorhome! We will be back in two to three weeks.
We should be in Moose Jaw, SK by Monday afternoon.
One of our multiple stops for pee and coffee...
Ontario is the largest province to drive across, but the scenery is
beautyful.
We took this photo because the garage has our son's name...
Most of the drive in Ontario will be on two lane highways. It
rains a good portion of the day.
Not the best to travel, but what can you do!
A "fine cuisine" meal for the end of the day. We are not holding
back on the expenses!
So, after 825 km on the road we spend the first night in Sault-St-Marie.
We sure traveled a long way, but we are still in Ontario!
Saturday August 30, 2014
Shoot! I forgot the 12 volts cooler in the car last night and now
our car battery is dead.
A short call to our ERS (Emergency Road Service) and 10 minutes later
we are on the road again.
Actualy, 30 seconds after the tow truck showed up we are up and
running. Total cost for the boost? $0.00
Next major city is Thunder Bay, still in Ontario.
Just a little fog when we left this morning. Of course we also
had some rain...
A short stop in Wawa for lunch.
We drove an extra hour after Thunder Bay and we stopped just before the
small, very small town (?) of Upsala.
This is a Mom and Pop kind of motel.
We did not pay much and it was not worth much!
One more 800 km day.
Sunday August 31, 2014
Talk about a restless night! Paper thin walls, close to the
highway with transport all night long and of course the train going by
almost every two hours...
Just a little fog this morning. We were just commenting about the
lack of wild life on the road when we saw a moose far, far in the
distance crossing the road. That is the extent of the wild life
on this trip!
We still have another 400 km to travel in Ontario...
We must have stopped at 15 or more of these bridges work in northern
Ontario.
We are getting closer to Manitoba!
We finally made it out of Ontario after driving over 2000 km since we
left our RV park in Carrying Place (Trenton).
A cute rubber ducky in Brandon. This is where we will spend the
night.
