Close by, there is an Armed Forces Museum.
With our friends, Keith and Isabelle, we go for a visit.
Most of the museum is inside.

The first part is about the first World War and the war in the trenches. Fog, explosions, and gun fire, every thing to make us feel what the soldiers were feeling back then.
Very impressive!

In this room, the display is about the Japenese attack on Pearl Harbour.
Again, all the fog, noise makes you feel like you are there.

Next, we end up in WW2 in France.
During the liberation of France, a soldier got hung up on the church spire.  He watched the battle from up on the church spire.  The German captured him but he was liberated shortly after. Now the small village of Sainte-Mère-Église has an effigy of the soldier hanging on the side of the church to remember the American that liberated them from the Nazi.

Very beautiful museum.
On top of that, with a military ID card, you get in free.

Like a true snowbird, I got myself a leaf blower.

We spent the afternoon with our neighbor and friends June and Pete from North Carolina.
Very nice people.

Other campers joined us for a drink, Jody, Doug and Eunice, all Newfoundlanders.
We had a great time sharing stories and laughing.

Another great day...

A warm and cloudy day with a +25 c for today.
Keith and Isabelle join us on a visit to Tarpon Springs.
The little town of Tarpon Springs was at one time a town of sponge fishermen.
Here everything is about sponges and Greek, a nice little town.

You want some sponges, you got sponges.  I never knew there was so many different kind of sponges.
Some are soft and some are good to scrub pots.

Me as a sponge harvester!

Michèle waiting for us to come out of the store.

Too cute!

You can find everything is the stores. Even alligator heads!

The boys with the shark... and the girls with the turtle.

Here we are going from store to store in Tarpon Springs.

Some of the fish you can catch in the Golf of Mexico.

A typical sponge boat.

Throughout the years, Tarpon Springs was the capital of sponges, but bad luck and natural disaster hit the sponge industry.
It pretty well disappear.  But since the 80's, the harvesting of sponges as picked up and now many people live off this industry.

Nice and warm today, +25 C, pool it is...
Michèle floating away...

Our neighbor, June and Pete, are returning to North Carolina tomorrow morning.
We are having a few drinks with them.

We finished the evening with the poker game taking place at the club house.
I am not good at poker...

Another busy day doing nothing...

Saturday and Sunday, February 5 to the 6, 2011

Saturday is a day to catch up on the web page and relaxing.

Today is Super Bowl Sunday!
Keith and Isabelle invited us, Bill and Chrissy to watch the Super Bowl at their Fifth Wheel
Today is cloudy, but nice with a +17 C.
We watched the first quarter outside.
We had to move in for the rest of the game because it started to rain.

Today is also Keith's birthday. I won't tell how old he is, but he is at least 16 years older them me!
In his left hand, you can see his gift, a (small) bottle of Scotch...

Of course, people stop and chat for a while before the game starts.

Its kick off time...

To be honest with you, I do not know much about football, but it was fun to be with friends and good food.
We had a great time.
To finish the evening, we had a cake for Keith's birthday.

Thanks Keith and Isabelle for a great evening!

Monday to Wednesday, February 7 to the 9, 2011

Monday is a nice day with a high of +20 C, but from 4 o'clock on, it rained, so watched TV all evening.

Tuesday turned out cool and windy with a + 12 C .
Here I am giving some pointers about laptop to Isabelle.

Wednesday afternoon and we are off to the dog races with Keith, Isabelle, Bill and Chrissy.
This is the first time we go to dog races, we really enjoyed it.
Here are our results, we have placed bets for a total of $75.00 and we have "won" $40.00, but we had a great time
We could not take photos inside the race track because the flashes from the cameras could startle the dogs and affect the result of a race.

We ended the day with a very good Italian supper.

We had a great week again.

Today is pot luck day at the club house.
As usual, we eat too much...
Here I am on my way to the pot luck. (Michèle is taking the picture and she is coming to the pot luck too!)

A cool day for Florida!
We decide to visit the village of Dunedin and their farmer's market.
Surprise! We get there and the market is winding down.
In Florida, farmer's market close down by noon because the afternoon sun is too hot and it does a good job on the fruits and vegetables.
Dunedin is a cute little town.  Dunedin is also home of the Toronto Blue Jays spring training camps (and they need a lot of training!)
A cute mural in Dunedin.

I found the idea of the window frame in the window of the restaurant pretty cool.
I like the look of it.

Saturday was a  relax day, mostly because of the cool temperatures.

Sunday, February 13, 2011

We have a "friendly" little shuffleboard challenge.

Lots of fun and I do not remember who won!!!
(I think we did!!!)

Valentine day!
The campers association organized a Valentine lunch a the restaurant Island Way.
Very nice restaurant.

To reduce the cost and the serving time, we had 3 choices for the main course, fish, chicken and steak.  Again to make things smoother, we had a card with all had our name and a little sticker with our choice on it.  I had the celery because of my allergies to celery and remind the server about it.
Pretty good way of doing it!

A photo of us and at the table, with friends.

Good food and good friends.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

The warm weather is back!  We decide to continue with the modification of our TV cabinet before the weather gets too warm.
A little cut here, more adjustment there...

Only the painting is left to be done.  That will be a job for another day.
Here is my work bench, my little table... work is done with borrowed tools.
Hey! It works...

After so much work, wing night with some friends.

Michèle had the natchos...  Very good!

A good day, we have accomplished little but it was well done...

Until next time.

Life is good...
