1 to 15 May 2024   16 to 31 May 2024

Wednesday, May 1st, 2024.

Ed, the guy moving our trailer, will be here at 16:30 hr today.
Natasha can now bike without the training wheels. She is still looking around a little too much, but she is good.

Ed finally arrived later than expected. Oh well! By the time we are all set up, it is 18 hr.

It is a nice site.

We are very happy to be at our campground. Not that we do not like being at Jeremy and Kristin's place. It is just to be at "our home".
We are camping at Cape Lazo. We are about 8 minutes away from Jeremy and Kristin's place.

I almost forgot, Happy Birthday to me! Yep, turned 64 today.

Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3, 2024.

We are looking after Natasha after supper. Jeremy is still working, and Kristin has a softball game tonight. We love our time with Natasha.
It is not as easy as you think being on a trampoline at 64 years old!

Natasha doing the pose.

I also take time to nap when required!

Saturday, May 4, 2024.

The playground at the campground.

After breakfast this morning, I went to the beach next to our campground.
The photo on the left is looking east towards the mainland. The photo on the right is looking to the west and Vancouver Island.

Natasha is spending the Saturday night with us. It is the official sleepover.
She is looking at pollen in the flowers. We biked, played in the playground and just had a great time.

We are having a Mexican supper.

Hard shell tacos for me and soft shell tacos for Michele and Natasha.

Because it is the official sleepover, Natasha gets to watch TV in our bed with grand-maman, eating junk food. I keep telling her not to leave any crumbs on my side, but she does...

They are watching a movie.

Once the movie was over, and the teeth cleaned, I read her a story before bedtime.

She had a good night in the trailer.

Sunday, May 5, 2024.

After breakfast, it is time for a walk on the beach.

Before we know it, it is time to take Natasha back to her parents.

We love having Natasha with us for those sleepovers.

Monday, April 6, 2024

It is an overcast day. Surprise, we have ice pellets coming down for one minute.

Natasha is with us after daycare. She is spending the night with us because Jeremy starts working very early tomorrow. Kristin is flying with the Search & Rescue team for their parachute jumping. She is not jumping herself. The first flight is also very early.

We went for a bike ride before supper. Just as we left the trailer, it started to rain. By the time we were back, it was raining harder. We were wet.

Natasha found it pretty funny to use the small broom to "paint" herself with water dripping from the awning.
We even turned on the patio heater under the awning. No damage to the awning from the heat, but it did not stay on very long.

Natasha warmed up pretty fast in her winter PJ and under the blanket.

She loves pasta.

She always has something to say.

Grand-maman treats her right with ice cream for dessert.

Because it is not a sleepover, she is not listening to TV in our bedroom, just in the living room. She understands the difference.

Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

As I wrote above, Kristin is flying with the SAR Tech in the Nomad Air Skyvan. They will be jumping out with parachutes.
It is a sad situation when we cannot even do our own flying to train our SAR Tech!

Ready to jump.

The top arrow is towards Courtenay. The bottom one is Comox.

Natasha has a new bike helmet. She wore it all evening.

Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

I had a short walk on the beach this morning.

Right next to the campground, we saw an eagle's nest.

And another walk on the beach in the afternoon. This time with my pretty Michele.

Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Another walk on the beach, even if the scenery does not change, it is still beautiful.

Michele used the camera with the long lenses to bring the eagles closer.

As for me, I went to help Jeremy make a floor for his new boat.

The bottom of the boat with no flooring.

And with the new floor in the front and the back.

But! Once we finished, Jeremy did some research on how to make a good boat floor. He came across information saying NOT to use treated wood to build anything on an aluminum boat. The chemicals used in treated wood will eat the aluminum in no time.

We will have to remake the flooring with regular plywood. This is a $100 mistake, lesson learned.

Friday, May 10, 2024.

I went out to the beach again this morning.

We are at low tide. I saw some seals hunting for breakfast.

I turned left at the beach and went to Point Holmes. Point Holmes is 1.5 km away when walking on the beach.

I walked by the road to get back to the campground. A little folk art by the road.

I am back to help Jeremy with the flooring for his boat. This time with regular plywood.

We have installed the two seats.

Jeremy and Kristin invited us for supper.

Saturday, May 11, 2024.

It is the last ballet class for Natasha.
Here are some photos Kristin took of Natasha before her ballet class. Look at the shadows, very pretty.

Natasha is coming for a sleepover today, but only after her nap.

When you drink red juice from a water bottle. You have a funny mustache.

She is getting better and better with her bike.

Having snacks and a movie in bed with grand-maman.

Story time before bedtime.

We have a lot of fun with Natasha.

Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Natasha had a good night's sleep.
We go for a beach walk before she leaves us.

Natasha will be leaving us after she has her snack.
She is picking up Grandpa (John) and Grandma (Audrey) at the airport.

It turns out to be a cloudy day. So it was a Sunday doing nothing.

Monday, Tuesday, April 13 and 14, 2024

It was just a nice and an easy couple of days at home.
Audrey and John invited us to visit the Islands of Hornby and Denman tomorrow with them.
Sure! We would love to.

Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Audrey and John picked us up at 9ish this morning.

We are taking the ferry from Buckley Bay, Vancouver Island, to Denman Island.

We were the first to arrive at the ferry terminal.
Maybe we will see some whales?

Audrey and John.

Audrey and John have Kristin and Jeremy's car while they are visiting.
On our way to Denman Island, the ferry only takes 10 minutes to get to the island.

While we are on the ferry, we discuss our plan for the day.
Because of the ferry schedule, we decide to go to Hornby Island first. The ferries timetable is dictating our schedule for the day.
This is the ferry between Denman and Hornby Islands.

We really don't know what to expect on the Islands.
We quickly discover that being early May, not much is open to the tourists. Being Wednesday is even worst. Most tourist business open only Thursday to Sunday.
The closest and maybe the only place open for lunch is the Bakery & Pizzeria.

Yep, we got pizza.

Our next stop was across the road where a few boutiques are located. Most are not open.

Hornby Island has a feeling of being a hippie place.

We decide to go to the Helliwell Provincial Park and hike a trail.
The trail took us along the coast.

In the background is the Beaufort Range on Vancouver Island. The dark area in the middle of the photo is Denman Island. Closer to us is the trail at Helliwell P.P.

It is so beautiful.

We saw a bald eagle couple.

Everything is shaped by the water and the wind.

We are at Point St-John.

Me, Myself and I.

We have the forest too.

And a totem pole.

The trail is very well maintained.

After our hike, we head back to the ferry to go to Denman Island.
The ferries have a schedule to follow, but is they are full early, they just leave regardless of the time.

I think it is a seal.

The weather was perfect for touring the Islands.

The ferry to Denman Island.

Just like on Hornby Island, on Denman Island, most of the places are closed.

We did not make any stops on the island, we just traveled back to Vancouver Island.

Public transportation is free on the Islands. What a good way to reduce the number of cars on the roads.

Before we got home, we stopped for a drink at the Royston Pub.

We had a great day visiting the Islands with John and Audrey. Thanks for the invitation.

Until next time.

Life is good...
