We are taking a break today. We need it after all the busy days
we had.
Big breakfast and a nice fire. Good to be relaxing.
Rolland
and me are off to Jasper with the bicycles.
Rolland wants to check out if anybody has old cars. When he found
out Jasper had alleys that was it.
I have to put a few photos of what he found just to prove we did find
many...
He has a nose to find old cars.
Back at the campground, a herd of elk was going through the campground.
There must have been ten of them.
This break was welcome, it did us good.

Back in the saddle with touring. Busy day today.
Our first stop is the Jasper Tramway.
The Tramway takes us up to 7,173 feet of elevation, the top of the
mountain is 600 feet higher.
Very windy at the top of the mountain. Very cool for temperature.
Here we can see the upper terminal for the tramway. The mountain
we are on is Mount Whistler.
Looking west.
And looking south.
The town of Jasper.
The four of us with Jasper as a background. It is not very warm.
On our way back from the tramway, we spotted this young bear.
Direction,
Mount Edith Cavell.
One of many small creeks we crossed in our travel.
Mount
Edith Cavell.
Mount Edith Cavell, seen from the parking lot.
I have never seen a tree with its cones growing on top of the branches.
From the parking to the Mount Edith Cavell, a nice trail of 1.6 km
return. A beautiful place and well done.
Taking a break.
Another small creek with very cold water.
The Angel glacier.
At the base of the Angel glacier, you have another glacier and a lake
To give you an idea of the size of this place, try to find two persons
in the photo?
With one of the "iceberg".
The small glacier is called the Ghost glacier.
Michèle
and Suzie waiting for us as we are throwing rocks in the water, trying
to break off some ice.
Ahhh!
Love...
Mount Franchère reflecting in Lake Cavell.
Campfire and a well-earned rest.
Rolland
got some issues with his foot.
Note:
Rolland is only drinking beer to dull the pain...
Here is what he sees when the pain hits...
Another very busy day.

We are continuing our tour of the Jasper area.
A big elk resting in the shade.
Maligne canyon.
A narrow gorge at a dept of 150 feet.
So beautiful and to imagine the water took thousands of years to
achieve that.
One tired tourist!
On our way to Maligne Lake, we drive by Medicine lake. Medicine
Lake is special. In the winter it is empty, but in the spring, it
fills up. The reason for this is this lake has one of the
biggest
underground river system in North America.
Medicine Lake.
At Maligne Lake, we are going for the boat ride to Spirit Island.
In the boat...
Another tour boat. The scenery is so beautiful. During our
travel to Sprite Island, the guide told us all kinds of information on
the area around the lake. Really good stuff.
The island you see in the photo below is Spirit Island. The view
was painted on the grand hall of Grand Station in New York for almost
20 years. Much prettier in reality.
The same photo, but without the Island. The first explorers
called this view, "The Valley of The Giants".
After the cruise on the lake, we are off to Miette Hot Springs.
The mountain range in the center of the photo is the Ashlar
Ridge. It is very BIG.
Coming is the hot spring at 7:48 pm and still lots of daylight hours
left.
The pools are at a very nice +40C.
I personally prefer Miette hot spring to Banff hot spring.
The main reason is this place is less crowded. The scenery is much
prettier.
Oupppss! Slightly out of order, but here are the photos on our
way
to Miette.
We are spending the night at Pocahontas campground. I did not
take any photos because the bugs were just too ferocious.
You needed a lot of bug juice to be outside.
